Maybe we will be a changed society. We can all stay home and work. We can cook our own meals, cut our own hair, do nails, wash our cars, and order all the things we need to buy on line. So far I have done exactly that. My toes and fingernails I have taken care of, cut and colored my hair, washed my car a couple of times so far, cook all meals at home, and order all stuff on line, except for a risky trip to the grocery store too. That is the next thing I would like to stop. I also go out to the nurseries to buy plants. I have noticed the air quality is so nice.

I’ve been doing that since the Obama Reign of Terror. It get old after while.

@popcorn
So in other words, you’ve been taking responsibility for yourself, all by yourself. You want a pat on the back or something? You seem proud and making a big deal out of it, while I and everyone I know has been doing those things for years. Time to grow up in this nice air quality.

Reality still eludes some, ilovepopcorn, … you are correct.
Society became accustomed to others providing services we are capable of doing ourselves.

While many will revert to their pre-SIP behaviors, willing to pay others to do what we are capable of. There will be others are discovering their abilities are adequate.

Now if younger folk would take money they save to pay off bills each month, start saving and eventually start saving for retirement.

Yea I know, but I can hope . . . .

I agree. Even though my first response was, DUH of course emissions went down. Illegals need to go home (drastically reduce population) and the recently freed convicts need to be used as replacements for menial labor. Let their patriotism shine through at this point in history. In a years time, they will be HEROS!

Menial labor?
Wow.

Yes. Menial labor is very mind clearing, uplifting and good for the health of those who may be depressed. Despite espousing overall good health, a debt to society and building a resume for good behavior, hard work and willingness to pitch in. I speak from first hand experience. The added bonus is, they will emerge healthy AND lionized for their help in our hour of need. A perfect way to reintroduce them back into the good graces of our society.

You agree, I assume.

Excellent idea!

wow

I used to respect uc davis ……

but to pander and post that a study needed to be made to deduct what any common sense oriented person would and should know….

this is the liberal agenda verbiage that tears down simple thoughts and deters exercising ones brain

that a liberal college needs to post
that they did a study that doing less of something makes something else better

wow

I bet everyone was on pins and needles waiting for the results of this study

what would we do without liberal colleges telling us that less driving leads to better air quality

I wonder how we can actually set a alarm and wake up in the morning without a special alert system to show us how ….

I mean hey how about working on something like how to deter the criminals from being criminals
in this new era of liberal self rehabilitation and no prison time for crimes against non criminals

or hey how about what to do with our garbage or recycling since china is just dumping it into the ocean

these are problems that actually would benefit from a thinktank or study ….

don’t you agree

this coddled approach to life as it happens around us is detrimental and slows down the growth of a society as it is forced to rely on a single political approach to life as we know it …..
through colleges and high schools even elementary schools

I mean its like a study needs to be delivered on …

if you turn on a light switch at night you can see better ….

If it came from Davis, it has a political theme, and not one I’m inclined to believe either.

Davis has become so far out there…I don’t trust anything they publish or write.

@ whome

I agree. The whole UC system is closely aligned with CalTrans to take people out of their cars one way or the other. They both want the whole state traveling by rail or bus. Most things that issue from any campus of UC is progressive, liberal Democrat in nature.

Seriously. I am sick and tired of this government treating us as if we’re a bunch of morons and we can’t think for ourselves. And the amount of money that is spent on grants for these stupid studies is beyond belief.

Why do people paint their toes and nails?

Just wondering. 🙂

The same reason people get tatoos. For decoration.

So somebody at Davis looked out the window?

HAHAHA!!🤣

Well since the environmentalist won the lack of freeway planning way back when, which created our freeway traffic. They scrapped more than 50% of the freeway’s that were suppose to happen since the late 50s this set us up for creating more green gasses due to sitting still. If we keep moving we leave less green gasses. Environmental groups destroyed our environment.

What????!!!!!! No????!!!!!!!

How typical, needing a study to report the obvious.
Wonder what cost to taxpayers was ?

Prediction, liberal members of state legislature and newson will use study to demand stricter emission standards and more electric vehicles.

When all they have to do is give companies a tax break reason to have non essential workers work from home. Of course those of us who actually troubleshoot, do hands on building and repair work will need to go to work.

An why do companies NEED silicon valley or SF addresses on their business cards and seldom used letterhead ??
We need to stop stuffing people into already overcrowded and over built cities.

Incentivize companies to build their offices in suburbs.
antioch has all kinds of boarded up and unoccupied commercial space and after this shutdown there’ll be even more that can be bulldozed and new office space built.

still annoyed at the whole fireplace business, when there’s dozens of biomass power plants in the state burning biomass (wood) to make ‘green’ power

An issue I have with this study is that the guy who managed it, Fraser Shilling, focuses on roadways. He seems to have ignored that air traffic, farming, and industry also contribute to air pollution and all of those activities were greatly reduced.

I would more interested in his data if he were to look at roadkill numbers. Does less traffic lead to or less roadkill? Has the ratio of animals killed changed? The guy has managed roadkill studies and so already has the baseline data.

His COVID-19 traffic reduction study report is available at https://roadecology.ucdavis.edu/files/content/projects/COVID_CHIPs_Impacts_updated_430_2.pdf
