So 56 is today’s new case report in CCC. It looks as though the Memorial Day flings of some people away from SIP is starting to kick off the second wave of COVID-19 in CCC.

Sounds like many ignorants are getting their just desserts. The looters are next!

“Crowd sourcing” new cases?

I have minor surgery on 6/10/20 and would really like more of a breakdown of the deaths and detail on those infected as I am watching how the hospitals may fill up as I heal from my surgery. It is very unnerving to think I have practiced extreme SIP only to be place right in the midst of the Memorial Day thoughtless people surge in the hospitals.

There are still more hospital beds (1,685) then total coronavirus cases (1,633) in the county. That being said currently 18 out of 1,685 or ~1% are being used in the county for Coronavirus cases. I think its safe to say your recovery will be just fine and not impacted by this virus.

Wish you luck and a speedy recovery!

Not everyone infected with the virus is hospitalized, most have mild symptoms and recover at home.

I get the worry but I think you should be very confident. If you look at the dashboards at coronavirus.cchealth.org you can see demographics on deaths and cases, and hospital capacity. Only 1-2% of available non-surge beds are occupied by Covid-19 patients. This daily count is maybe a mini-surge but most of those people won’t ever be in the hospital. There’s a lot of room.

I like how you aren’t mentioning the protesters and only the THOUGHTLESS people on Memorial Day. Good luck with your surgery and don’t forget to wear your mask!

@boycott, chill, the surgery is on the 10th. Protestors won’t be filling the hospital yet even if they do get an outbreak going.

Folks, get ready for the worst. Last night at Money grubbing Bourbon HIgh Way in WC which resumed its normal night crawler hours, groups of people crowded on top of each other outside without masks. That Dudu is a class act.

See, numbers gonna spike up for 4 reasons

1. looters/protesters/rioters
2. reopening too soon
3. state requirements between employers and residents at the homecare
4. too many people are not following the guideline of social distancing and wearing a mask

You forgot #5 – People who do not know how to properly wear a mask and leave their big nose sticking out blowing everywhere.

Reopening too soon, HAHAHA. Please.

Masks for are for criminals and socialists.

Gotta get to herd immunity sooner or later. Can’t keep a lockdown for months on end and except people to docilely comply. People need to work for a living, business owners need to open up before they go bankrupt, as so many already have, there’s a need for treatment of other health conditions that have been missed and postponed. Children are missing critical education and are suffering from not spending time and playing with friends.People are also social creatures.

We drove to Solano County last evening to eat out with family who live there. Judging by the heavy northbound traffic on 680 and 80 E, a whole lot of other Contra Costa refugees were going to Solano county for whatever purpose. I think many people have unquaranteened themselves.

AMEN

Well said. If we knew there would be a cure or tested vaccine in a month or two it would make sense to be more hardcore with lockdowns. But we don’t know that, so we need to move forward and do our best to mitigate, not eliminate, the risk while life resumes.

They tried herd immunity in Sweden.
That did not work well for them.

Traveling to another County and bringing virus back with you…Always a great idea!

“People are social creatures”— Ha, not anymore! The hatred is just beginning.

Doh, should everyone, except essential workers, stay home until there’s a vaccine? Do none of the negative consequences of the lockdown matter as long as no one gets Covid and dies?

Agree! And I think those protesters are doing the herd immunity for us! Humans are losing there sh*t cause no you can not keep things on lockdown for months on end.

@ Doh

Do you live under a rock or something? No access to a TV? Oblivious to the +5 days protest, riots and looting happening in major metropolitan centers of the United States? People on top of each other?

Shelter in Place is done. Stick a fork in it.

Doh! is a perfect name for you.

@Doh – While they did not get the hoped for level of herd immunity the Swedish model worked out fine for them. We all learned from it with those lessons now being applied in other areas including here in Contra Costa county.

56?! If that trend continues we are in big trouble. I don’t know why we are opening up right now. Be careful everyone

Maybe because (a) it can’t go on until we get a vaccine, and better to loosen up now than in the winter, and (b) people just stop complying after a while, so what’s the point? and (c) once riots and social breakdown is on the table, the credibility of the SIP is shot and the consequences of keeping huge percentages of the population outta the workforce start to look really bad.

We’re opening up because people have seen how absurd this is. The county allowed thousands and thousands of people to protest. People have already pretty much unquaranteened themselves. It’s been almost three months. Businesses have gone bankrupt, people have lost their livelihoods, cancer diagnoses have been missed, surgeries to treat serious and life-threatening conditions were cancelled, suicides are up, etc. There have been some very serious effects as a direct result of the lockdown. It has not been benign. People have lost their lives from causes other than Covid.

Since testing is now required of nursing home residents and staff, how many of those increased numbers reflect that? Don’t panic about the numbers. Testing in the county overall has increased. Also, look at the number of active cases. In a county of over a million people, that’s not very many. Take your own precautions, and stay at home if you feel you must. Don’t insist that every one else stay at home, except of course those essential workers who are risking their health to make sure you are well supplied while you stay at home.

I think the nursing home run got us again; the five largest contributors to total cases did it again with 35 of the 56.

Which nursing home this time?

I heard that this virus has mutated to a less potent strain, causing less severe cases and shorter recovery times.

Can anybody confirm this?

No, that hasn’t been confirmed yet – A couple doctors in Italy Said they think it may have happened but most others do not agree. I hope it will, but remember even if it does in Italy, for example, that doesn’t mean the virus going around in America suddenly will also. It will take time for that less potent strain to become the dominant one.

Steven, CCC health recently instituted mandatory testing for long term health care facility residents and workers…this uptick is most likely the results. Also, of the 38 deaths in CCC, 21 were from these facilities—-unless you live in one or work in one, you should not be in trouble.

True bc Trump asked all the governors to do this about a month ago…

The 56 case increase has several components that I’ll explain below. It itself is not cause for concern.

However, when looking at the 7-day rolling average the number of new cases has been increasing since 5/30/2020. It was 19.3 per day then and is now 28.9 per day. (both averages were calculated by adjusting Tue 06/02/2020 up by 21 and Wed 06/03/2020 down by 21. See below on why I did that adjustment. Without the adjustment we are still at 19.3 and 28.9 but there is a notch in the graph rather than a smooth increase.

Back to the increase of 56 for the total number of cases…

1) The county increased the number of cases for Wednesday 6/3/2020 by 19 from 27 to 46 cases.

2) Keep in mind that the count for Tuesday 6/2/2020 was just 4 new cases.

3) In the 7 days preceding Tuesday 6/2/2020 the new-case numbers were 23, 11, 25, 22, 22, 23, and 39 which average to 24 new cases per day. Tuesday was 20 less than the average and Wednesday was 22 more than the average. Thus, I suspect something got gummed up in the works and that some of Tuesday’s work was done on Wednesday.

4) There were 36 new cases reported for Friday 6/5/2020. The 56 case increase reported by Claycord is a valid way to count it but can be misleading at times such as today’s report.

For those double checking the math… There was also one “new” case reported for 4/13/2020 which increased from 42 to 43 for that day. While the county regularly adjusts the numbers for previous days that one is unusual in that it’s so far back. The previous day adjustments were +20 plus the 36 for yesterday nets you 56 new total cases.

Thanks, that’s very helpful!

Thank you for your analysis. It’s clear, we aren’t out of the woods yet despite the fact that some people would like to “wishful think” otherwise.

There were only 36 new cases today, not 56.

as of 06/06:

1,633 confirmed cases in CCC with 38 deaths = 2.33% death rate.

can we just get rid of this reporting? Don’t you all have Covid burnout by now? I don’t care how many cases, let’s just start getting back to making this country great by getting rid of this section. The media and left got what they wanted… a ruined economy, fear of Trump and his policies and the destruction of our rights under the guise of a fake pandemic… Great Job! Now let’s move on!
