@Look at it,
We are on a ‘slippery slope’, as Contra Costa County Health and Board of Directors are encouraging us to gnark on our fellow citizens if they are in violation of health orders…they even list a number to call. WE are walking the line to becoming the next Soviet Union.
Here are minutes from 7/02 meeting: http://64.166.146.245/agenda_publish.cfm?id=&mt=ALL&get_month=7&get_year=2020&dsp=min&seq=1635
Do web search and you find those reporting covid-19 violations, in several states, have found out about disclosure laws their governmental entities follow.
An they’re not happy . . .
As much as I love singing in service, it is necessary. 87% of the people that attended two choir practices in Washington back in March developed COVID19. To put some numbers to it, there were 53 people infected out of 61 participants, two of them very sadly passed away. I’m just grateful we live in an age of technology where we can still worship and be safe at the same time.
There is an old expression, “when you sing, you are praying twice”. So yes, it is necessary to sing worship songs. You may not want to, and you do not have to. Singing worship songs is a way to celebrate and pray at the same time.
This is an attack on churches like KT stated below.
This is an attack on our right to express religion, like Rollo stated below.
If the stupid governor was smart he would have just said “I ban all singing inside a structure” and not specified religious … but then again, he is scummy wanna be little dictator.
Reality is, it will not matter much as we can only have 12 people inside unless we are protesting … no matter how big our church is.
You wrote “it is necessary”. Are you kidding? Do you actually believe that California has any right whatsoever to ban singing? If so, would you like to purchase some beautiful beach front property really cheap?
This is exactly why America is failing terribly and continues it’s death spin figuratively and now literally. The mentality of ME ME ME don’t tell ME what to do. If people would step back from their ego for just a minute and think about the good of others we would progress. You are arguing against something that actually happened. Are you saying the people that became sick in Washington and the ones that died are Fake News?
You can still sing from home in your worship services. I am currently doing that and we are singing along to pre-recorded hymns with voices. Is it the same feeling as being there live? No it isn’t but we aren’t neglecting our duty to God either. My Church is still worshiping in accordance to the biblical teachings as taught to us by Christ. In fact we had a couple lessons exactly on this topic.
Here is an important bible verse for true Christians:
Mathew 18:20 from NIV “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Our live stream worship service is still a gathering with all the same elements of a regular service. So, please think of the safety of your fellow congregants instead of just yourself. Again, a choir practice in Washington had 87% of it’s participants infected. It’s sad that people can’t self regulate themselves, but for the safety of the public it is necessary. I implore people to look up the Spanish Flu and how devastating it was because of the attitudes of people.
First, let me start with this … a TRUE Christian does not need to state that they are a TRUE Christian. Christians live by Faith and not by Works. If you have to tell someone you are a Christian, then you are failing miserably.
I worship at my church weekly, in the parking lot. It is not the same, and I want that. Yes, that is ME ME ME mentality. But you see, I am a human being who naturally craves social interaction – kinda hard wired into me.
Let me quote one for you as well, Matthew 28:19 “There go out and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Kinda hard to do that via a computer screen ….
Yes people got sick in a choir practice but why is he only banning singing in Worship settings. Why not other settings/venues? But what I am saying is that the Church is being singled out. Remember when the fools wanted to keep track of who entered a church?
America is failing terribly because so many people are willing to live their lives at the whim of the government, and refuse to defend their own rights and those of others. Yes Pyrrhus, my rights and yours are more important to me than my life. I used to think I shared this country with many like me.
Pyrrhus, the Matthew 18 passage you cited has to do with church discipline, not meeting together in a church setting.

Yep cannot blow out droplets with you singing! Please try not to keep blaming the government! This nasty virus is has taken everything away from us. The the worst is our friends and loved ones. We cannot show physical affection. No hugs. Then the restaurants and travel. I get claustrophobic about this. At least we have great technology to communicate safely. Everyday I pray we can mitigate the spread but our numbers are the opposite. I read if we all follow the protocols we can do this. The prisons, nursing homes, protestors, large family gatherings, and any large group is spreading this virus. Bad idea. Not singing in a large enclosed area is just one way to stop the spread.

No the government has taken everything from us. I blame people like you for what is going on. This virus is not any nastier than the flu is every year! So you are part of the problem not the solution because people like you keep the fear mongering going. Shut up and let this thing run its course just like you would a cold or the flu.
It’s obvious this virus can’t be contained. No virus can. The flu comes back every year, the common cold is ever present among us. So Covid-19 has joined the ranks.
WHO, CDC, NHI, the media, and the Democrats have pushed the fear for each of their own agendas. We are pawns, once again if you let them.
The government can only take away what you allow it to take away.
By your logic, we must isolate ourselves, wear hazmat suits, and forgo physical affection through hugging until the virus goes away or an effective vaccine is developed.
Here are a few question that will blow your mind: What if they never find a cure or vaccine? Will you continue to live without human contact for the rest of your life? Will you continue to wag your finger at those who sing in church or crave the touch of another? How long can YOU go without hugging your grandchildren?
I ask you this because they might never find a vaccine. And if you expect life to halt forever for the general population, then you are sorely mistaken. And if you tell us that, yes, you will isolate until eternity, then I call b.s.!
Be scared and live in fear behind your closed door and gated community. We are all fine with that because that is your choice. But get off your high horse and stop chastising everybody else while you wait for the government to solve everything. Some problems can be solved but some cannot. And if you can’t solve the problem, then you just need to learn to live with it.
@Overwhelmed This is not just a flu. The Flu kills 67k tops a a year in the US. The Coronavirus with the precautions we tried to take has killed 133K and counting. Imagine if we just ignored it. We would be looking at double or triple that number. That doesn’t even account for the lifelong impact it has on those that do recover who now have lung damage.
I really don’t understand why people would rather trust conspiracy theorists instead of Doctors and researchers that have spent their life taking care of people and researching infectious diseases. How did Anti-intellectualism become the rallying cry of the right wing? Step back for five minutes. Why would you put more faith in a youtube video then Dr. Fauci who has been with the NIH since 1968 and has been tasked to help with multiple infectious disease and during both Republican and Democrat administrations.

For example, the 2017-2018 flu season was considered one of the worst. An estimated 80,000 people died and 900,000 people were hospitalized from flu-related complications in the US. Now, in 2020, 6,350 people have died of Covid (if you can even believe that number) in California (pop. 4M). Yeah, it sounds fishy to me too. How many of your rights did you willingly give up? to freely assemble? your freedom of speech and religion? You took the bait and ruined your economy. I know exactly when this pandemic will be over. On November 4th.
Grace Cathedral in San Francisco held an AIDS/HIV Memorial Service over the holiday weekend where a large choir sang, vigorously it appeared in the news report, without masks. Nancy Pelosi attended via video conference. it appeared, giving her support to the gathering which was in direct opposition to Newsom’s and his public health advisors directives as related in the above video. So, it’s ok to sing in a choir at a gay event, but not at a religious one.

This is NOT an attack on churches or free speech or any freedom. This is solely trying to get a handle on a highly contagious virus with a 5% fatality rate. Idiot attitudes have made the US have the highest infection rate in the world. Over 130,000 dead is over twice as much as the Vietnam War.
You’re doing the match wrong “Doh”
correct formula is:
# of fatalities/ # of population
Example: CA (CDC data as of today)
reported deaths – 6,337
reported cases – 271,684
state population: 39,510,000
Actual death rate – 0.016%
inflating numbers death rate (# fatality/ # cases) = 2.33% – thats not how you calculate fatality rates by the way…but the news has done this for COVID (not done for other viruses…interesting)
But, what do I know…I just actually analyze the data…guess that makes me an idiot…or a right wing nut job…or a boomer…or an entitled millennial. Sorry, what am I supposed to hate myself for again?
It IS an attack on churches, on free speech, and on freedom. The left want to create socialism and using COVID-19 is an avenue towards their goal. In a socialist society the government has full control over everybody’s life.
Ask yourself this, why do they want to defund the police? Why are they closing everything up, as people are losing their jobs, their homes, and their livelihood? Why are they making it harder for citizens to practice their religion? The answer is control, and once the economy collapses, and when people lose their religion, and there aren’t any police to to call when you need help, they have control, and they will control you. That my friend is how socialism is created.
Open your eyes, take a look around, and stop believing everything you hear on the fake news, as they are a big part of the problem. Do your own research and you will see they are lying to us. I feel like this is crossing a line. I can understand a temporary ban on assembly of any groups over a certain size or density, but dictating specifically how people who lawfully assemble may or may not practice their worship is crossing a line that should not be crossed by the government. Advice is one thing, but then people must be given the choice to assume the level of risk they are comfortable with in their worship practices.
Next up: burn all bibles – they’re full of hate speech.

From a recent article: COVID-19 is thought to spread mostly through respiratory droplets, usually from sneezes or coughs. But experts also say tiny viral particles can spread through singing, speaking loudly or breathing heavily. So, as businesses reopen around the world and as people consider gathering in closed, indoor spaces with poor ventilation, getting a more complete picture of how the coronavirus is spread is important.
The WHO is working on a scientific brief summarizing what’s known about coronavirus transmission, Van Kerkhove said. It will be released in the coming days.

Huh??? All of a sudden, churches and places of worship are targets.
Churches are sacred places; for many it might be the only place where people can actually go to find peace amidst the chaos of this pandemic. As long as people are praying and singing at a distance from others, what is the problem?
Re-opening churches in the first place was a bad call. But now that they *are* open, banning singing is just petty and cruel.
Meanwhile significant sectors of the population are still banned from working, rent forbearance runs out on July 28, and the CARES Act boost to unemployment ends on the 31st. Congress is taking a cushy 2 week vacation instead of doing anything. California seems to be going out of its way to remove what few vestiges of joy and fun we’re allowed.

I can understand a temporary ban on assembly of any groups over a certain size or density, but dictating specifically how people who lawfully assemble may or may not practice their worship is crossing a line that should not be crossed by the government. Advice is one thing, but then people must be given the choice to assume the level of risk they are comfortable with in their worship practices.
totally agree!
Next up: burn all bibles – they’re full of hate speech.
Next prediction: replace the American flag (too oppressive) with the Rainbow flag (all inclusive) you heard it here first folks.
Is it still ok the flatulate on the wooden pews to enjoy the sound as it reverberates through the chapel?
Don’t worry about the pleasant odor; your mask will protect you.
What?!! Not even with social distance and mask?
I heard that God doesn’t care where you worship…but maybe I heard wrong…
You heard right.
If the guidance is consistent no matter what group and what activity, then it is better received. I prefer the approach you can have the activity or be open for business if you meet a list of guidelines. Choosing some specific activities and businesses and excluding others is where this gets dicey.
These Communists that run California have got to go Gavin newsom and Xavier becerra need to be brought up on charges they are unindicted felons I don’t know how it is that they can be in charge of a state that they hate so much. They are definitely trying to destroy this state and I’m assuming their intent is America itself
The corrupt racist progressive left politicians lost all credibility weeks ago when they betrayed all Americans by promoting protest, violence, looting, racism and murder. All during a pandemic. I say sing until you can’t sing no more.
A lawsuit will be filed.
Guaranteed.
Many people fail to understand that the Marxists are operating out of pure hatred and vindictive spite
It makes sense then doesn’t it
Is this only for predominantly white churches and predominantly black churches are exempt? In Lincoln city Oregon if you are white you are required to wear a mask. It is optional if you are black. No racism here.
That was rescinded after the predictable and justified backlash.
meanwhile Gavin has “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” playing on repeat while he combs more grease through his hair
“California bans singing”…Good luck with that….”Whatcha in for, kid”?? “Singin”…???
From a recent article: COVID-19 is thought to spread mostly through respiratory droplets, usually from sneezes or coughs. But experts also say tiny viral particles can spread through singing, speaking loudly or breathing heavily. So, as businesses reopen around the world and as people consider gathering in closed, indoor spaces with poor ventilation, getting a more complete picture of how the coronavirus is spread is important.
The WHO is working on a scientific brief summarizing what’s known about coronavirus transmission, Van Kerkhove said. It will be released in the coming days.
Trying to outlaw the Christian faith and force it underground like in the communist countries. This is the beginning of the end. It is in the Bible what is happening. Those of you who are for this, you will reap the results of it. It will not be pretty. I pray for your souls and that you repent and turn to Jesus.
That’s right, we know what time it is on God’s calendar.
😊
Not much longer ☝️💫
Is speaking in tongues still OK?
If not it’s going to pretty quiet in the Governors office…….
Scholars at Cambridge have already written a thesis wherein anybody, like Christians, who doesn’t believe in their ‘science’ is insane. This is the ground work for a codification of prosecuting anybody who disagrees with the powers that be to be locked up.
It’s BS! Just like this stupid virus.. people quit watching fake news and live your life ! Media is gear mongering along with progressive wing of dem party
Can’t go to church, but protesting and rioting are ok. I guess covid is selective in its victims. Maybe if we called church a place of protest, we’d be allowed to sing…stupid logic!
Yeah … you gotta love Newsom … we can’t sing or prayer or talk in church (even though we all have masks on) BUT we can protest (without masks) and yell, scream and chant while we are protesting. Hmmmm….a little bit of a double standard there, wouldn’t you say???!!!! California is pathetic!!
Huh??? All of a sudden, churches and places of worship are targets.
Churches are sacred places; for many it might be the only place where people can actually go to find peace amidst the chaos of this pandemic. As long as people are praying and singing at a distance from others, what is the problem?
“Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Halle-e-lu-jah..….”
Wake me when this horrible year is over. Or don’t.
People should just sing outside. It’s summer, so there’s no issue with rain or other inclement weather.
Protesting outside is a different dynamic than singing inside a closed spaced. However future protesters may want to still take more precautions.
Future protesters will be just like today’s protesters: unemployed.
@Jazzman Your inability to see outside your small delusional bubble is truly concerning. I pray you are not the majority.
