Protesters in San Francisco rallied outside the office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein on Monday afternoon to demand that she and other Senate Democrats stop confirmation hearings for President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett.
The hearings, which kicked off Monday, could result in Barrett filling in the seat of late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away last month.
Because Barrett’s appointment, which lasts for the rest of her life, would result in a 6-3 conservative majority on the high court, the activists want to hold off on the hearings until after the start of a new presidential term following the upcoming Nov. 3 election, which they claim was Ginsburg’s dying wish.
The activists include members of Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, the Center of Popular Democracy Action, Sunrise Movement — San Francisco, Defenders of the Earth, and the Action Center on Race and the Economy. The rally, called No Confirmation Before Inauguration, began at noon outside Feinstein’s office at 1 Post St.
“We’re here to tell Sen. Feinstein and the Democrats that our eyes are on them — they must do everything in their power to stop Barrett’s nomination from moving forward,” activist and Richmond City Council member Melvin Willis said in a statement.
“The president has refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the election, and Barrett’s nomination makes this scenario even more plausible. A court with Barrett will not protect our votes; it will protect Trump’s desire to stay in power. We’re calling on Democratic leaders to safeguard the American people’s right to choose our president by stopping this nomination,” Willis said.
The activists are also calling on Feinstein to publicly reject the hearings and to use every “procedural block to jam processes and delay proceedings.”

Eliminating the pragmatic need for Obama to nominate a “Moderate” that could garner 10 to 15 Republicans to support. Then the Repubs gained the Senate majority in 2014. Obama nominated an extreme leftist Merrick Garland. The Kentucky Senator Turtle did not need to have a fight in the Senate. So he said “no” and now Democrats are throwing tantrums.

Given the outsized role the Supreme Court plays in our big political issues, I don’t blame people for pushing for their desired outcome. But the hysteria here toward the end is amusing. Donald Trump can’t even get his own administration to follow his prerogatives most of the time. He routinely gets stymied by lower federal court judges. His prize SCOTUS nominee, Gorsuch, decided that discrimination on the basis of sex really included discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation all along – so basically the opposite of a conservative reading of the law, certainly in terms of outcome. The military higher ups are largely hostile.
There is no mechanism for Trump to stay in office if he loses. None whatsoever.

Rather than claim “let the people decide” in 2016, McConnell should have done nothing more than point out that out of ten times a seat has come open during an election year, the senate has confirmed a nominee only twice when the Presidency is occupied by the other party. Call it precedent, call it tradition, call it political hackery, call it whatever you like. It is what it is. The more textualists we get on the court, the better job it will do of upholding the Constitution.
Barrett is EXACTLY the sort of judge they should want that will uphold the Constitution and ensure a peaceful transfer of power. No, she is not Trump’s judge. She will be OUR judge.

Amy Coney Barrett is a bad nominee. Republicans claim she is being attacked for being Catholic. However, her views have nothing to do with her Catholic faith. The Catholic faith does not ask women to be subservient to their husbands, nor does the Catholic faith ask women to follow the commands of handmaids. There is nothing Catholic about the People of Praise cult.
Barrett is not in charge of her own decision making process. Every decision she makes has to be cleared though her husband, and her handmaid. A judge must have self-empowerment and self-determination, which Barrett does not have. In essence, she isn’t even really the nominee, her husband and her handmaiden will be the ones telling her what rulings to make.
The Supreme Court needs to be reformed. The Supreme Court nominations dominate the political discourse, and are the biggest source of political division. There needs to be limits on how many years these judges can serve.
Republicans used the Supreme Court to stop vote counting in Florida, resulting in G.W. Bush’s presidency. Republicans blocked Merrick Garland’s nomination process. Now the Republicans are pretending to be shocked and outraged that the Democrats are playing politics with the Supreme Court.
If the court is not reformed, it could completely fracture the nation beyond repair.
So provide factual proof of your claims….not opinions, but PROOF.

The process has deteriorated since Bork was rejected for honestly answering about the structural issues with Roe vs Wade; now all are evasive in answers. Both side have participated including not giving Garland a hearing and withholding an accusation against Kavanaugh to the last moment (which should be done privately early in the process).
