Starbird Chicken has signed a lease and will move into the building formerly occupied by Taco Bell in the Encina Grande shopping center on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek.
Starbird currently has locations in Sunnyvale, San Jose, Foster City, Oakland, Campbell, Levi’s Stadium and the SFO airport.
The business is expected to open in January of 2021.
Amazing news! This makes my 2020 and 2021 almost worth the pain. Been heading to SJ/Sunnyvale on an almost monthly basis for their sandwiches.
They have excellent quality ingredients and some really interesting flavor combinations. Now, if we could just get a K Market or HMart here in the old Cardenas building….

I love a good bird.
This is the best news ever!! Starbird is so good…chicken tender sandwiches. Tried it out in Sunnyvale and was disappointed there wasn’t one closer to home. They also have waffle fries and churros. So good-bye Taco Bell…you won’t be missed.
It will be like a deluxe Chic-fil-A with even less parking!

Rocco is losing business with mean spirited employees that treat faithful customers like sh*T AND do not follow any oscha standard guidelines. Closing early and being out of favorite items.is a real business killer!.
New reputable businesses are needed in that rundown shopping center

Civic planning? Planners don’t determine who occupies a tenant space. That’s up to the landlord, in this case Regency Centers, and the restrictions in the existing lease – likely with Whole Foods Market. Typically, major tenants have non-competition clauses/limitations going forward but existing tenants are allowed to stay until their lease expires.

“Rundown”? Regency Centers did an extensive remodel in 2014. You should have seen it before. OMG, it was stuck in the late 1960s.
Steinmart chose to locate in WC – not city planners. Their choice in locating in WC is called ‘risk’ as with every other retail business.
Cool. Sounds promising. I’ll check it out. The world doesn’t need another Taco Bell, but a Bay Area brand restaurant on the way up could be really good.

You can get grilled chicken instead of fried in all their sandwiches.

Applebee’s is also a very go to place to get a delicious bite to eat. Rocco is also a neat little place to eat. They are always have excellent customer service every time I go there.
