The California Department of Public Health has released “safer” alternatives to trick-or-treating this Halloween.
They say the safest way to celebrate Halloween is to spend time with people in the same household or to “celebrate virtually.”
Some specific alternatives that are low risk but still capture the holiday fun include:
- Creating a haunted house or candy scavenger hunt in your home for people inside your home.
- Having a scary movie night and Halloween-themed activities (pumpkin carving, face painting) at home
- Participating in online parties/contests (e.g. costume or pumpkin carvings)
- Attending car-based outings where people do not leave their car including drive-in events or contests or movies; driving through an area with Halloween displays
- Eating a Halloween-themed meal with your household (alone or with up to 2 other households, not including your own, for a meal outside following all other gathering guidelines)
- Enjoying a Halloween-themed art installation at an outdoor museum with your household
- Dressing up homes and yards with Halloween-themed decorations
- Giving treats at home only to those in your household.
- Send a curated playlist and/or themed treats (or tricks) to your friends ahead of time.
- Designing face masks that reflect your child/ren’s Halloween costumes
- Prepare a Halloween basket for your children or Halloween hunt in your backyard

This is almost as bad as when the CC Health department was trying to recommend safe ways to have sex with regards to COVID.
These NON-ELECTED governmental organizations have lost their minds with this power grab.
these are lies
About 15,000 scientists and doctors worldwide have signed a newly created document urging an end to pandemic lockdowns, arguing that the policies aimed at curtailing the novel coronavirus have produced “devastating” effects on public health.

Tell that to New York who just closed down 160 schools because of the increase in infections.
@CR2
happy to! but they like those of you who are fear mongering won’t listen so why bother? remember NY sent recovering elderly back to their rest homes thereby guaranteeing those there would die. so again NY like CA has leaders who are ignorant or otherwise wish to make more out of this by killing people than it should be, see Sweden.
school age children are least likely to have a problem with this, so why close the schools? as an over reaction to the real problem which is the elderly and those with other issues.
but what is the point, right, you are right and i am wrong. tell that to the Swedish!
God Bless!
So… what’s your explanation for all the spikes Florida has seen since they completely reopened?
@C
not sure what your point it as spikes will likely happen whenever there is testing, but simply put in deference to you, it is a virus and people are going to get it, is my explanation.
what is your explanation to why with the death rate is so low like 98+% survival and yet we are behaving like it is the plague.
let the fear mongering begin!
that’s your cue @C
God Bless
Thanks for that…since we can’t possibly think for ourselves and need to be saved from ourselves. I will keep practicing the safe precautions that I have throughout the entirety of this situation.
No bobbing for apples!
The bucket becomes a cesspool of bacteria & the danger of drowning is ever present!
Best costumes would be deep sea diver or spaceman complete with helmet & functioning air tanks.
Please be careful in the deep sea diver costume. Walking in flippers can be a tripping hazard.
How come the Department of Public Health has not cautioned against this danger?
AD
NOTE TO SELF: Never again go bobbing for French Fries!
’nuff said
So sorry Health Department
We are trick or treating in our neighborhood. Our neighbors have already said we are open for business. Yes, we will keep distant from other roving ghouls, ghosts and goblins. Yes, we will ensure all candy is inspected for tampering. Yes, they will either wear gloves (to match their costume) or disinfect their hands between houses.
But we will not cower in our house.
Lights will be off at my house and all you monster’s stay off my lawn.
After thought… I will also have my attack dog chained up out front.
out of context but as humor is usually good…
“damn kids, get off my lawn!”
God Bless
And most important, when eating, keep your mask on and only remove it between bites. The almighty Gavin said so, so it must be helpful.
Thank you nanny government! What great ideas. Maybe I can contribute. How about an EBT candy card for kids! Why put kids at risk in such dangerous times.
Ok really, we have grandkids ages 5,7,9, 12 and they see no big deal there is no Halloween this year. What is the big deal with no trick or treating and all the hoopla associated with it?
I remember as a kid I didn’t want to go out trick or treating I didn’t even want to dress up and my parents forced me to do it.
Get over it people your kids will survive, your kids will not have mental issues over it either.
if your kids do have a hissy fit about it well go buy a whole bunch of candy hide it in the house and tell them to go find it. Your kids do not have to go door-to-door to have fun on Halloween.
Good for you and your grandkids! Glad you have them so under control and mentally stable.
Mine are older and enjoy going outside in the fresh air.
If you do not want to participate, don’t. But do not try and make the choice for my children.
So says the person traumatized by Halloween for life by her parents encouraging her to enjoy and be part of the festivities…just because it is not important to you doesn’t mean all should think the way you do.
The problem is not with our children missing out on Halloween but rather the gov’t telling us what we can and can not do. We are free thinking individuals that have a right to participate or not… Lol a the wizard
@Puffandstuff
Bingo!
@singledout, wow there are people out there that have common sense.
By your post, I can tell your kids are well adjusted and will have good productive lives. A sign of great parenting….congrats…
Puffandstuff, that’s a load of hogwash.
The government isn’t mandating these things, they are recommendations. No one will be arresting trick-or-treaters
And the government CAN tell you what you have to do for your safety and your children’s. Consider the following two sentences.
“If I want to drive my kids to school in my car after drinking two bottles of vodka then I should be able to – the government doesn’t tell me what I can and can’t do with my family!”
“My kids and I don’t need to wear seatbelts. We talked about it as a family and decided what was best for us was to not live in fear. You do what you want but you don’t get to decide whether I wear one.”
There is a reason the above activities are illegal.
@Chuq
Quote unquote, The problem is the government telling us what we can and can not do.
“THE PROBLEM IS” appears to be the words you missed. You better re-read Puffandstuff’s post because it is most definitely NOT hogwash…..you’re post on the other hand…..
@Chuq
Make that “your”.
Cyn, what in the world are you talking about? Puff’s post said:
“The problem is not with our children missing out on Halloween but rather the gov’t telling us what we can and can not do.”
And that is nonsense. Of course the government can both:
A. Make recommendations for your safety (which is what they are doing here)
B. Make laws for your safety (see my two examples)
Which part of the list in the article is a requirement instead of a recommendation? And what country do you live in where there aren’t safety laws?
Again @Chuq
Puffandstuff said the problem was with the gov’t telling us what we can and cannot do. Not sure what part of that is so hard for you to understand. Your examples are laws. Examples that are not laws is the gov’t telling us to where our masks inbetween bites; telling us we cannot go to church; etc., etc. Those, my dear Chuq, ARE NOT recommendations and they ARE NOT laws.
Recommendation
rec·om·men·da·tion
Noun
A suggestion or proposal as to the best course of action, especially one put forward by an authoritative body.
The above list of “alternative activities” are recommendations. You also list a mix of recommendations and laws.
“where [sic] our masks inbetween bites; telling us we cannot go to church; etc., etc.”
Wearing your mask between bites is just a recommendation. It’s not a law. You do you.
Gathering in large groups inside a church is not safe. There have been lots of news stories about congregations who had big unmasked services that resulted in spreading the virus. The government is going to protect you and society by not allowing that gathering just like they wouldn’t allow you to host a gathering in a place that is a fire hazard.
maybe the problem here is that some people want to be told what to do or not do while most people enjoy life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
i like the second option myself!
God Bless
SINGLEDOUT That’s fine and dandy for you and yours. For most kids, trick-or-treating is one of the highlights of the year. Folks don’t want to be treated like babies by bureaucrats; we can make informed decisions on our own.

Thanks California Department Of Public Health, I was planning on putting on my ribbed white tank top and give my kids a whopping and sending them to bed early. But I have changed my mind after reading your suggestions.
Seems like someone took one to many meds today.
OK. My plan is to dress up like a hooker and carry a sign that says Soon To Be Elected President of the Formerly United States.
My candy of choice will be lollipops.
.
… and get a pal to dress up like Willie Brown.
.
@Exit 12A
OMG !!! Can not believe I missed that opportunity. Will revisit after I put my fishnets on.
I’m going to the wizzard’s House. I might even pitch a tent on this lawn
My dog and sprinkler system will love you. Bring a rain coat and lots of band aids.
I like Rob’s proposal on the goverment-subsidized druggie thread.
BwaHaHaHa!
Oh hey California remember not enforcing immigration LAWS because they weren’t “just?”
Please accept my middle to your “recommendations”
Candy and Halloween sales and Dental visits will be down, causing more economic hardship
P.S ” Chuq” always kills my buzz, anyone know where it came from? he government perhaps?
I just have to add- the government is telling/ suggesting that I can give treats to my family members… thank you government. I voted today and I voted against every incumbent for telling me what to do.
I’m filling treat bags with candy and putting them out in front of the house. I’ll be up on the porch at an appropriate “social distance” to wish trick-or-treaters a Happy Halloween, should they show up. I think kids could use a happiness break about now.
I am having a Halloween party at my house with all my family and friends,i got a jumper for the kids ect! Plenty of food/drinks entertainment, its going to be great!
2020 has been a great year for me regardless of whats happening in the world and COVID never heard of her.
Bro please at least keep all the windows open and put some fans up near them.
Can’t wait for the next set of rules to come out. Probably be for the
“multi-colored” (black) Friday shopping day.
CC health is doing what they are told to do, they are not following science. This is Newscum dictating control. The WHO just released that lockdowns don’t work. Whenever you reopen there IS going to be a spike in cases , it is a no brainer. CA is going to see an increase. You can’t stop the virus , it is here. We have to go on with life. If some people are that terrified of a virus , you are welcome to be a hermit in your house but the rest of us are entitled , by the CONSTITUTION to life , liberty and the pursuit of happiness !
Well said America!
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is in the Declaration of Independence.
How about a sharp stick in the eye to complete your super fun celebration.

70% of people who contract COVID-19 wore a mask all the time
6% of people who contract COVID-19 never did
That is directly from the CDC website
They provide this data and also say masks help.
The word help appears to mean help to spread the virus.
That’s science and data Mike.
When CDC tells you to do something, maybe you should ask why

theatre of obsurdity….its almost unbelievable “health experts” promote this silliness
obsurdity? That spelling is wildly unreasonable, illogical, and inappropriate!
