hey Peter nobody wants to see this
The problem is that people under 30 HAVE died. Just because it’s not stated on this website and the deaths aren’t from Contra Costa doesn’t negate the issue anywhere and everywhere else. But it’s a narrative thing – to downplay what needs to be so others feel better about themselves.
So it’s just like the election fraud issue….. ” But it’s a narrative thing – to downplay what needs to be so others feel better about themselves”
So if we downplay it we can feel better about it?
People can do that and not see how DISHONEST that is? or maybe those kind of people just don’t care…. they have selective principles, minimalise or ignore the inconvenient facts ?
OK, now I understand.
I don’t understand the comment of “nobody under 30 has died” – this is disheartening. Every death is terrible for the people that lost that person… this dismisses the loss to this horrible virus.. just because they are not younger than 30 their lives don’t matter! Ugh!
It’s one bright spot in an otherwise dark year. It also has some relevance for the school situation.
“It also has some relevance for the school situation.” Because if kids get infected maybe they will all be mostly okay? Assuming that were true, where do we keep them all and who looks after them so that the rest of their families don’t get sick and die, and/or become contagious due to their exposures? Just curious.
I didn’t read that into the post, at all.
“just because they are not younger than 30 their lives don’t matter! ” You sound like my ex-wife. Reading something into it that isn’t there, then complaining about what you made up.
(look at all the guys nodding their heads in agreement)
@Silva,
I didn’t say it answered every question about the school situation. But it is definitely *relevant*. It’s part of the picture.
@Silva if you are actually curious about the school question, here are some resources:
A viewpoint article from pediatrics researchers who have read and reviewed *all* of the Covid-and-children studies:
https://adc.bmj.com/content/105/7/618.long
A summary thread by Vinay Prasad (UCSF MD and public health expert) on a report by the European equivalent of the CDC:
https://twitter.com/VPrasadMDMPH/status/1343956784327794688
The tl;dr version:
1. Dangerous cases of Covid among kids are rare, comparably rare to other existing diseases.
2. Kids, esp. young kids, are less likely to get Covid and transmit it than adults.
3. In general teachers and childcare workers are not more likely than other in-person workers to get Covid. Particularly true for those working with younger kids.
4. School closure does a lot of damage to many kids, in many ways.
5. Not clear how much transmission-reduction school closures actually accomplish. It does something, but not clear that it is a big factor.
@ Addlepate ~ If only you had asked my advice …. there is a method to eliminate nagging that I am happy to share with all men.
When the woman begins to nag you simply ….. fart!
That’s right, everytime she starts in let one rip.
I discovered this quite accidentally one day when my GF began nagging me & I accidentally popped one off… complete surprise, never felt it coming… real loud too. It frightened the dog so I couldn’t blame him and the cat scrambled out the kitty door & never did come back.
Had to open the windows too….then the idea struck me and I turned and blamed it on my GF !
Yep! I told her it was me that farted but it was HER fault.
The nagging triggered a psychosomatic response, NAGGERS (Negative Auditory Generated Gas Emitting Response Syndrome).
After that, whenever the nagging began, I’d fart…. every single time.
Eventually she quit nagging & naturally fell back into the pre 20th century method of offering me sexual favors for anything she needed done…. take my advice guys… fart! It may save your marriage.
Keep the people in FEAR! Good for fake news ratings.
Makes it easy to control the population.
Thanks DEMONcrats.
– Old Otis – please stop drinking the Kool-Aid – the Democrats have nothing to do with this pandemic. Selfish people is what is allowing this virus to run ranpid. The lack of loving thy neighbor because it’s TOO hard to wear a darn mask! Give me a break!
My comment was stating that – a death is a death regardless of age or if in a nursing home.
@Why say that, people are wearing masks where required. There are other ways the virus is transmitted even if everyone wears a mask.
It’s crazy to me that people are blaming the “other” for what is basically an act of nature. If it makes you feel better to blame those gosh darn anti-science non-mask wearers, I guess go ahead. But I work retail, where mask wearing is basically 100%, and it is still spreading. Also, why is California, the most progressive, mask wearing, lockdown state in the union, ground zero now? Shouldn’t it be one of those anti-science red states like Idaho?
There has never, in history, been a successful containment of a highly contagious airborne pathogen. We bought a little time with the earlier lockdown, but that time has run out. We still live in a world with risks, and mortality still stalks us all.
I learned a new word today, “ranpid”. Misspellings are running rampant on this blog.
Why say that- Well, the fact is that is really is less sad when a 90 year old dies than a 9 year old. A 90 year old has lived a full life and a 9 year old is starting out. So, yeah. People are sadder when they lose a child in the family than a great grandparent. Should we sacrifice years of life from our young ones to give the elderly maybe a few more months or years of their elderly lives? that doesn’t make sense. that is why the elderly and compromised should quarantine and everything else should get back to normal THAT is the ACTUAL science that is coming out. What we are doing now has NO background in science to speak of. Also, most of the elderly with whom I speak prefer just to live their lives and NOT do this moronic lockdown.
Given the daily new case rate, we’ll be locked down until everyone has either gotten Covid or vaccinated.
There are several article out suggesting a large percentage of front-line health workers are refusing the vaccine. It will be interesting to see how that plays out from a legal standpoint.
Also, now that California has the worst Covid statistics per capita in the nation, it seems the lock down has not been especially effective. Recalling Newsom is our best bet for the lock down to go away. That said, we all still need to take precautions.
It’s because we count a hangnail as a COVID case… that is why we have so many… Even if everyone gets COVID, they will make the case that we will all get COVID again and die! This is never ending. If they mandate I get one, I guess I get one. Otherwise this doc is abstaining.
@Fearless – Actually, while our raw numbers are high due to California having the largest population, we are not worst per capita. In fact, we are ranked 33rd in cases and 39th in deaths.
Yvette the demos will find another reason to keep us locked down they have an agenda!
@Tom
Your statement is ridiculous.
RTC- I notice how you didn’t have anything to refute that. You just made an asinine comment. What they have done is constantly move the goal posts so we are never free of this new control. Based on their past behavior, I would also have to conclude that they will just find a ne way to maintain that control over us. The goal posts will be ever moving. Tom made a reasonable conclusion based on the prior evidence we have seen.
Why do the demos want to keep us locked down? What is the agenda? Honest question.
It is useful information for gauging relative risk. If you are under 30, your risk is very low. For kids under 20 who get it, it’s less deadly than the flu. That is worthwhile information to have.
If you are under 50 (if I recall correctly), you have a 9,998 out of 10,000 chance of living. The risks elevate significantly from there.
More information is always better than less, thankyou to Claycord.
“Nobody under 30 has died “ refers to the present status in CCC. Some other counties wish it was the same for them.
True, and every death is a tragedy. In some ways extra tragic when the young die. But it is perfectly appropriate to point out how dramatically this virus’ lethality varies by age. In general the media likes to use data when talking about all the Covid mortality, because there is a lot of it and that’s obviously terrible and a big disaster! But pay attention: when they write about cases of young people dying from Covid, it’s always individual stories and never data.
Check out the CDC breakdown by age: over 300,000 people have died of Covid in the US since February 2020. Before you look, guess how many were under 14 years old. Then guess how many were in the 15-24 range, and the 25-34 range.
https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm#AgeAndSex
It seems that CC county hospitals somehow managed to kick a bunch of non-COVID patients out of the ICU. I assume it’s to make room for a potential surge. See https://imgur.com/a/1vlMoH8
As for “Nobody under 30 has died.” It’s a reminder that COVID-19 is not a serious threat to younger people. They account for 38% of the cases and none of the deaths. Here’s a table that summarizes the threat level by age.
@WC the more appropriate data is the % of cases by age that result in deaths –
Under 30 – 0%
31-40 – 04%
41-50 – .18%
51-60 – .62%
61-70 – 1.63%
71-80 – 4.87%
81-90 – 12%
91 and older – 20%
We should also remember that half the county population is under 40. And with your data we have 58% of the cases under 40 which says the risk of illness is greater for those as well.
