Why did it take the federal govt to require masks on public transportation?

Local officials are better positioned to determine that requirement or not.

Transportation is federally funded in part. The federal agency responsible for transportation funding can regulate transportation and impose conditions on the funding given to state and local transportation agencies. Some local agencies won’t require masks on transit because the officials that govern the agencies are concerned about political fallout. This is a way to ensure that masks are required on transit and to take politics out of the equation.
Hasn’t masks been required on public transportation since April 2020?

Theyre going to raise our taxes even more so that they can install insta-snitch cams on all buses, Bart cars, Bus stops, etc. Instead of the snitches gettin stitches, theyll get a free week of rides. Sounds about right.

Helpful with interstate travel. Working for an airline it’s a constant struggle with the anti-maskers, even though they previously agreed multiple times to wear a mask while travelling. Just one more tool to help make everyone feel and be safe. Really not much of a sacrifice

If I’m alone in the back of a bus and the only other person is a bus driver in the front of the bus is the expectation that I wear a mask?
It’s a question because there’s no data or evidence indicating widespread infection outside of enclosed spaces with social distancing.
It is a question because the mask does absolutely nothing beyond preventing projectile breath and there’s no purpose or effectiveness in wearing a mask when not immediately around others. How is this not understood?
It’s a question because you should question when any government wants you to wear a muzzle without providing per reviewed data. You should question why the whole country is listening to ONE persons opinion. Fauci said today at the cdc press conference it’s all his opinion with absolutely zero actual data. At this point, I can’t be friends with you if you’re not questioning this mask crap.
It is such a relief that we finally have competent national leadership in battling the pandemic.

BART PD doesn’t enforce most laws as it is. The DAs in San Francisco and Contra Costa don’t file on most charges/arrests.
