Federal prosecutors revealed the unsealing of 15 indictments against 44 individuals resulting from four separate investigations into the trafficking of illegal drugs to the Bay Area from Mexico, some of which allegedly originated with the international organized crime group known as the Sinaloa Cartel.
The prosecutors also announced seizures of approximately 500 grams of fentanyl, 20 pounds of cocaine, 20 pounds of heroin, and 1,100 pounds of methamphetamine, along with a dozen firearms and $200,000 in cash.
The methamphetamine seized was described as the largest such seizure by federal agents in the Northern District of California. According to Comeaux, the seized meth was enough to provide 80 million individual doses, or 11 doses per every resident of the Bay Area.
“It is a good day for law enforcement,” Comeaux said.
The arrests and seizures resulted from four separate investigations spanning more than 18 months and involving multiple law enforcement agencies throughout the Bay Area.
“This case exemplifies Homeland Security’s commitment to local, state and federal interagency partnerships, which are critical to our ability to successfully reduce violent crime and maintain public safety in our community,” according to Homeland Security Investigations (NorCal) Special Agent in Charge Tatum King.
maybe it was in transit to oregon, it is legal up there
https://www.post-gazette.com/news/nation/2021/02/01/Oregon-decriminalization-drugs-Ballot-Measure-110-heroin-meth-LSD-cocaine-MDMA-ecstasy-War-on-Drugs/stories/202102010142
As it should be for personal use
I was so happy that passed in Oregon.
5, 10, 20 years from now people will be able to use Oregon’s drug decriminalization as evidence that the war on drugs is a massive failure. Death, countless lives ruined, and massive profits for the private prison industry is all that has been accomplished by it.
Portugal decriminalized all drugs 20 years ago and within 5 years teenage drug use fell, overdose deaths from heroin were reduced by up to 50%, HIV infection rates fell, and users seeking rehabilitation doubled since they reclassified them as patients rather than criminals.
Oregon still has a huge problem with cocaine.
In 2019 liberal politicians passed SB 90, imposing restrictions on single use plastic straws.
Drug use gives people a license to be an ***hole.
Its terrific that Oregon has agreed to be a place for these like-minded individuals to congregate.
@jim
I call B.S.
Statistics are a soft science, you have to ask who wanted them. Easily manipulated.
Have you ever worked with addicts????
Drugs destroy people lives, just ask an addict. Oh things would be better if it was legal Hahahahahahahahaahahah 😜
You are out of touch with reality.
It is NOT legal in OR. Article states so in the first paragraph. Decriminalized possession of small amounts of heroin, methamphetamine and other drugs is a far cry from legal.
This allows police to spend more time on more serious crimes.
@Jim
Portugal didn’t just decriminalize drugs – it dramatically expanded drug treatment, especially substitution treatment for heroin addicts. Plus after-treatment monitoring and social re-integration programs, all of them governmental with clear reporting standards (not just throwing money at a bunch of seedy non-profits, as is customary in the US). Plus a lot of funding for prevention programs targeting children and young adults.
And even with all these efforts Portugal’s use of drugs has roughly doubled since decriminalization. However, you’re right that their drug overdose deaths have decreased dramatically, and so did drug use among children and young adults.
Countries that just decriminalized drug possession without directing large funds to prevention and harm reduction (e. g. Spain and Netherlands) haven’t been nearly as successful as Portugal. As in “not at all”, with drug use rates and deaths comparable to those in the countries with tough enforcement like Germany.
It remains to be seen what happens in Oregon, but something tells me it’s unlikely to be the next Portugal.
@Darwin
Statistics is not a “soft” science, even though it may be perceived as such by people with insufficient knowledge of math to understand how statistics works. It’s actually very difficult to manipulate the data without it being immediately obvious to experts.
well that went off the rails, but just goes to show when the mob gets involved nothing good will happen
God bless America
@ Darwin
I believe the claim that Jim is getting at is that, when well implemented, drug decriminalization is not just legalizing certain substances, but rather transitioning the response to drug use from the criminal justice system to public health systems, and that better outcomes can be achieved on a large scale from this approach.
And while I understand your point that statistics are not necessarily a panacea when to prove a claim (and they are lacking a source here), but your counter argument is to use anecdotal evidence, which is pretty weak footing rhetorically.
@tasah
I don’t think our an expert on math. When Trump stated crime was up under Obama and Obama claimed it was down the statistical EPERTS stated they were both right due to the information they sampled. Therefore MANIPULATION. They wanted data that would favor their agenda. Sounds like someone needs to go back to math class s as nd not be so naive.
@ fat cat
The prisons are full of people who committed violent crime while on drugs. Is that a weak argument??. As for drugs, society and treatment I suggest you research Prop 36 that passed in 2000 before you comment further. Treatment has been readily available for decades. Legalizing heroine, meth, cocain etc. Is not the answer
Yes that is a pretty weak argument. You’re just making a generalized statement without any context, information, or data.
And yes, prop 36 is an example of the type of policy that I was describing. Proponents of legalization would argue that the current laws (such as prop 36), do not go far enough to transition from criminal justice systems to health care systems. Whether that is the solution or not, I don’t know, but you seem incapable of distinguishing between your own opinions and actual arguments, so I was elaborating on what Jim’s argument was.
@ fat cat
What part of what I said wasn’t true??? The prisons are full of people with drug addictions. Prove me wrong. You will be hard pressed to find someone in custody who’s underlying issues isn’t drug related. Your retort is weak and delusional.
How can you speak for Jim??? You are NOT Jim
You can only ASSume what you thought he said.
To clarify for you, I’m all about personal accountability. If you want help it’s there. The problem is the VICTIM culture of today, no personal accountability.
“Do not go far enough to transition from the criminal justice system to the health care system”
What in the world does that even mean????
They are two separate entities.
If someone is released from custody and they have mental health issues the DPO and county mental health are notified and have a plan in place . If they have drug issues, the DPO will get them into treatment etc…
You appear to have limited life experience. Must be a democrat
There goes my weekend plans.
Now that is a good bust with more doses of meth than we have doses of covid vaccine. Maybe we need the Mexican cartels to start making the covid vaccine. Who in the H is using all of that meth. Let us hope those 44 individuals are going to do some big time. Taking 500 grams of fentanyl off of the street has to save a bunch of lives.
Good get them off the street!, hurting our people, feeding people until they pass away, get a real job! Selling drugs is mindless work
.
Here comes a slap on the hands and issuance of notices to appear.
.
The Biden Administration and CA are soft on crime and punishment.
.
Do they really have public safety in mind?
.
+1
Dummies use drugs while America crumbles.
This is why you don’t have open borders use your heads people
Exactly right! Borders borders borders! 👍
The United States does not have an open borders policy…
@TFC
tell that to the illegals streaming across the border post bejin biden

One very, very positive thing, it’s a Federal case that won’t get wimped out on by prosecutors. Some serious Federal time needs to be imposed.
From Mexico
…and senile Joe and Pamela both want wide open borders.
With the Biden “train wreck” in action, this country is going to become “Brave New World”!!
I would challenge Biden to sit before an unannounced impromptu panel and unscripted Q&A session re; the contents of those 40+ Exec orders he signed in that faked photo op!!
First, get your facts straight. There have been 40+ (45 to be exact) executive orders signed since Jan. 1, 2021. Biden took office on Jan. 20 and has signed only 29 of them.
Second, read a little. Presidential executive orders are not even close to a new thing—even George Washington signed some! And so has EVERY president since. In fact, 15,640 executive orders have been signed since Abraham Lincoln took office in 1861 (that’s approx. 500 per president on average).
Most contemporary presidents have used their first several weeks in office to sign orders that reverse the previous administration’s most impactful legislation, policies, procedures, etc that they and their electoral base don’t agree with.
Calvin Coolidge (Republican) signed 1,203 executive orders! And you think 29 is a big deal? Biden is doing nothing different than ALL 45 of his predecessors did. He’s just being a president.
Pay attention, people! Don’t just spew things you hear as facts. The perpetuation of falsehoods is what is destroying our democracy. It’s not “bad” people— most of us, regardless of our political party—are good people who want this country to survive and want to keep the freedoms that come with being American —so it’s not people, it’s what people SAY that does the most damage… because we don’t think before we speak We all have a right to our opinion but we must question our motives before we express them::::ask yourself if what you want to say (or write in Claycord) will 1. actually change any minds (or just make people who have different views defensive) and 2. benefit our nation (or further tear it apart). We don’t have to agree on issues but we must agree on what’s true or we are doomed.
So to start with… it’s simply not true that Biden is some sort of out of control executive order signer and people need to stop saying he is because even the smallest bits of misinformation like that only further divide us. Peace.
Go back and read what Joe said about executive orders when the orange man did it. It’s hilarious, he says they things should be voted on by elected officials and the people. These politicians, what POS.
I’m doing my part getting dangerous drugs off the streets with my first dose of the vaccine today.
Good thing this is Federal Bust, if this was a Local Bust, Sanctuary Rules would have let these guys go
[citation needed]
That attorney general, ANderson, was appointed by Trump. One of Anderson’s initiatives after his appointment was to tackle the notorious drug trafficking in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District. That program led to the charging of more than 200 people since it launched last year. – per CBS News
Also read that when an administration changes these guys are dismissed. Nice timing for him to get this bust in too. Now back to looking the other way…
According to the Dems we don’t need a border wall, what a bunch of nitwits.
Why can’t they come up with 80 million COVID shots?Come on Biden you made all these promises get your Democratic ass moving.
Biden is soft on drugs because of Hunter. And he still believes he won the election fairly.
Biden does not do his own “THINKING” !! He has handlers to guide him as to what trenches to avoid and which he can answer and not trigger an explanation as he cannot answer unscripted!
All that hulabaloo trying to impeach a private citizen is a real farce!!
“11 doses per Bay Area resident”. Sounds like this supply chain is more efficient than the one getting the Covid vaccine to everyone.
Their math is off by an order of magnitude
Own it people, we Americans are the biggest consumers of drugs in the world.
Bigger walls, more prisons, longer sentences, none of that matters if you can’t get rid of the demand.
Hunter Biden: Hey Dad, you should really look into Medical Meth. Some of the ingredients could be removed and use to treat certain pains in people.
Joe Biden: Well son, I’ll speak with Heels up harris and see if we could tax this since the state you live in is over $2T in debt. How is Gov. Brown doing? Send her my best.
You do understand that the post states that the drugs were seized, right?
And it doesn’t say anything about releasing prisoners.
Or locking up any innocent person….
Why even bother hitting ‘submit’ on that comment? You just seem like you want something to whine about
We should invade Mexico and put an end to the drug cartels. Many of Mexico’s elected leaders are tied to the drug trade.

Were all illegal alien drug dealers given immediate release on a promise to appear?
I moved here in 1984 and saw first-hand the damage Crank (street name for Meth) causes. It literally destroys people, careers and families. I have known people who have died from Heroin/Fentanyl overdoses.
If, as a taxpayer, I wasn’t on the hook for all of the damage caused by this plague, then I might take a more Libertarian view and support personal choice. But I hate having to pay to revive addicts, pay higher insurance because of the damage they cause, pay to house them in custody and treatment facilities and pay for their general upkeep.
That’s great !! But does somebody know what happens to the money captured ?! Or if our PD gets a bonus or something for catching these types of crimes ?!!!
According to my Uncle who worked Nacotics for a large agency down South, he said the money would be counted and placed into an account run by the state. Their Chief who request x-amount of funds for Y and Z. They usually got the money requested to buy new items that would be used in their line of work ie: communication equipment, vehicles, and paid informants. He said the taxpayers actually got a great deal with some of their high monetary busts.
I would hang all 44 of the dirt bags from trees in the town square, and leave them there for a week or more for the “wannabe” dealers to see for themselves. And ….. send photos of this to all the National Newspapers and on-line news sites as well. …No mercy for those scumbags.
Those silly Meth heads. Always so busy doing nothing except breaking into your car or stealing your property. 1100 pounds off the street is going to be a small hit to those who enjoy the burn of a good blast. Hope those folks finally get some sleep and maybe stop twitching so much.
Better hide it from the Contra Costa County drug task force.
