Bay Area Congresswoman Announces COVID Funeral Expense Reimbursement Fund

Families that have lost a loved one due to the coronavirus can now receive up to $7,000 in funeral expenses reimbursed, Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, said Wednesday.

Some $2 billion in funding will be made available to families through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to Lee. The program is modeled after funeral assistance funding the government provided following Hurricane Katrina.

Funds will be retroactive through the start of the pandemic, according to Lee, from Jan. 20, 2020, to Dec. 31, 2020. The funding was made available as part of the federal COVID-19 relief bill passed in December.

“No one should struggle to afford a proper funeral for a loved one,” Lee said in a statement. “During this time of unprecedented pain and economic hardship, it’s a moral imperative that the federal government step in and provide relief.”

Residents interested in applying for funeral reimbursement funding will require documents like expense documentation and a death certificate, according to Lee.

While FEMA is still determining the details of who will be eligible for reimbursement funding, applications are expected to open later this year.

Where does all this free money keep coming from?

You and me Bill

Selling the assets of the unborn. Taxation is theft.

It’s worse than tax money, it’s money we are borrowing and a good amount of that borrowing is from China. They buy our bonds, we pay them interest, and use the borrowed money to buy things from them. I get additional spending during a pandemic, but not for this, but we should be outlining how we are going to pay back this money in the future.

It’s always our tax dollars.

You are correct on the bond problem. Once Biden economics take hold, inflation will happen quickly. As U.S. bonds become perceived as “junk”, there will be a huge sell off by China and others. USA cash flow will grind to a halt, and borrowing money will get extremely expensive. Abandoned climate change projects will sit unfinished.

Oops.

the dems/left like to say “federal money” which is a lie, it is our tax money

This is nothing. They give away billions to other countries apparently to bribe them so they don’t go to Russia or China for help. And they spend trillions on stuff to blow up that needs to be replaced in a vicious cycle the ruse of “defense”.

I don’t even want a funeral when I go. Just a trip to the crematorium, a cardboard box and another trip on a boat trip a few miles off shore. The family can throw a barbeque. If they care to.

Here here.

Thank you Dems for digging a deeper hole of dept for our kids to pay for along with there kids and there kids too. Why do all of you keep voting them in while seeing the damage they do

Since this was all a hoax, hopefully the money will go to the schools

What could go wrong?

Of course, since your mom died in hospice quarantine and you weren’t allowed to be near the body post mortem,

we’ll tip the bottle and send you the shoe box our Garavanis came in to help offset your loss.

Will that money be on top of what the families already collected from insurance and/or GoFundMe? I predict there will be more fraudulent claims than legitimate claims.

Have you considered that not everyone has insurance to collect?

And would you agree that no one should have to rely on a crowd funding website to bury their loved ones?

This is just another reason to have COVID-19 on a death certificate…

Oh good! Our family can probably collect pretty good as we’ve lost four people in the last year. I’m sure it was because of covid. Surely covid was the reason (not heart or cancer reasons).. Do you get more if you’re ‘people of color’?. (Two of my relatives were dark cajuns) thank you Barbara Lee!

I’m announcing the COVID hobbies expense reimbursement fund. Since people were Forced to stay home, they had to take up a hobby to maintain their sanity.
So whether it’s model trains, slot cars, model building, photography…..the list is endless, submit your receipts for reimbursement.

I have all the old slot cars out for the grandkids. We have had a great time rebuilding them, and now the kids understand how an electric motor works, and what you have to do to make them fast. It’s been so much fun we have purchased additional cars on Ebay; we are up to 48 cars and growing.

Great fun.

Seems like an excuse to artificially inflate COVID death numbers

Exactly. This scam “pandemic” is perpetuated by giving people incentives to go along with it.

We see this in many forms, be it government hand-outs for the unemployed, hazard pay for grocery store workers, healthcare workers being dubbed as heroes and now funeral reimbursement.

The $7000 is just the start of the cost to the taxpayer, who will also have to fund the government organization in charge of dispensing this stipend.

BTW- How are they going to reimburse all those who weren’t able to have a funeral or see their loved one during their last days, because of lock-down measures?

The Dems Spend and Tax program has no boundaries…

Rep Lee is gonna use it for her blow habit then maybe give some to the peasants

Might be helpful to someone. https://www.hrsa.gov/cicp

The Nigerian Scammers are already processing tens of thousands of claims. This is just too easy.

California unemployment fraud is more than the other 49 states combined. As such, California likely has more dishonest residents than the other states combined. Therefore, this is a bad idea.

As usual, the Dems can’t seem to buy votes, I mean give away money, fast enough.
It would be one thing if this was only for people who actually needed the help.
However, I suspect it’s just like the student loan forgiveness, including wealthy families too.

This is insane. Funerals are optional. Cremate and give the ashes to the family to do with however they please. Cremation costs much less than funerals. It’s their problem if they did not plan for their own funeral.

Agree. If you are paying thousands of dollars you can’t afford to the funeral industry, you are not indigent, you are stupid. This is subsidy for the funeral industry, not helping people in desperate straights. If your house catches fire or floods or suddenly you have a dead body laying around, I’m all for the government stepping in and helping you with your emergency. Expensive caskets, grave plots, flowers, and viewing rooms are frivolous extras.

When my father died recently, his wishes (and everybody else’s) were honored by cremating him the cheapest way possible. Two eminently professional large men came and retrieved his body, and a few days later I picked up his ashes. We are not poor. We could have thrown an expensive wing ding over the whole thing, but we chose not to. Our weddings, graduation parties, etc tend the same way. I’m not a cheapskate. I’ll clean the house and feed everybody real good. But I really don’t need or want a $7,000 government grant to give to a funeral home.

More incentive to fudge the numbers…”If we list their death as COVID you’ll get this money”. God help us! Please wake up my fellow Americans we are being manipulated in the most sinister ways.

Truly on brand that the ghouls who haunt the comments section of Claycord dot com are lecturing people that, if they are poor, they must dispose of their loved ones’ bodies in whatever way is cheapest, lest precious, sacred tax dollars be spent on such an unworthy cause.

Maybe the most cynical place on the entire internet. Y’all never cease to amaze.
