Contra Costa County COVID-19 data as of Tuesday Feb.16, 2021.
All information is from the Contra Costa County Health Dept.:
- Total cases (since March) – 60,834
- Recovered cases – 57,919
- Deaths – 622
- Total active confirmed cases – 2,293
- Nursing home deaths – 281
- 26 active outbreaks in nursing homes
Contra Costa County COVID-19 Hospital Data:
- Patients currently hospitalized – 104
- Occupied ICU beds – 131
- Available ICU beds – 37
The State will move Contra Costa County to the “Red Tier” once the following three criteria have been met for two consecutive weeks:
- Case Rate: Less than 7 new cases per 100,000 residents – (currently 17.9)
- Positivity Rate: Less than 8% of tests countywide are positive – (currently 4.7%)
- Equity Metric: Less than 8% of tests for residents of the lowest quartile of the Healthy Places Index census tracts are positive – (currently 7.2%)
K-6 School Reopening:
Contra Costa County is currently in the Purple Tier. Schools may not reopen for grades 7-12 while in the Purple Tier. K-6 school may reopen for in-person instruction in the Purple Tier if the adjusted case rate has been less than 25 per 100,000 population (currently 16.2) per day for at least 5 consecutive days (schools can now reopen) and the school has an approved COVID Safety Plan. Local school officials will decide whether and when to reopen once these criteria are met.

Puff, I’ve been getting the same requests from my grandson’s elementary school wanting donations for school supplies. No classroom teaching, no donations as far as I’m concerned.
Way to go! Lets not provide things for schools because you disagree with their safety choices! That will show them!!
So even if they did open, they wouldn’t have things that better the children’s education because of your well thought out and researched opinion.
So who suffers when you refuse to help? You?? The Schools?? The kids??
Yogurt- the schools have been given MILLIONS of dollars to open. That they are not using this on things that children need is telling… why should we have to continue to provide this when either parents should for their own kids or schools should with their ton of money. The bottom line is that unions are holding the kids hostage so they can continue to pad their pockets with little regard for the children they are harming. It is about time we say enough is enough!
@Puff Grades 7-12 haven’t been given the OK to reopen, only K-6.
That first metric that needs to be below 7% is next to impossible. Numbers have gone down significantly and and we are still 10% points from where it needs to be. Dumb metric to go by when 2/3 criteria are met.
I’m estimating the case rate will drop below 7 around March 6th.
COVID-19 is an unusual disease in that it’s both very contagious and that people are contagious for very few days. We had a surge triggered by people socializing for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. We are now back to the usual social distancing and few social gatherings. The disease is now quickly clearing out of the community which is causing the case rate to also fall quickly.
We’ve been seeing quite a drop in new case numbers in the past month. Particularly notable is San Pablo’s drop from 639 cases in the previous 14 days shown in the January 15th report to 214 cases in today’s report. That city
may be approaching herd immunity.
Richmond dropped from 1117 cases to 490 new cases in the past 14 days. Concord’s cases dropped from 1046 down to 351. It looks to me like Contra Costa is likely to be back in the Red Zone no later than mid-March.
MDUSD is stalling, stalling, stalling. Relying on their racist board to call all the parents that want to open schools, “privileged white people.” SMH.
