Contra Costa County COVID-19 Hospital Data:

The State will move Contra Costa County to the “Red Tier” once the following three criteria have been met for two consecutive weeks:
- Case Rate: Less than 7 new cases per 100,000 residents – (currently 10.7)
- Positivity Rate: Less than 8% of tests countywide are positive – (currently 3.2%)
- Equity Metric: Less than 8% of tests for residents of the lowest quartile of the Healthy Places Index census tracts are positive – (currently 5.3%)
K-6 School Reopening:
Contra Costa County is currently in the Purple Tier. Schools may not reopen for grades 7-12 while in the Purple Tier. K-6 school may reopen for in-person instruction in the Purple Tier if the adjusted case rate has been less than 25 per 100,000 population (currently 9.1) per day for at least 5 consecutive days (schools can now reopen) and the school has an approved COVID Safety Plan. Local school officials will decide whether and when to reopen once these criteria are met.
Repeating my comment from the other thread, hoping someone here can answer since the same people who come into my job were swearing up and down that Contra Costa would be in red tier as of 2 days ago are now saying it’s happening next Tuesday.
Again, how is the county going to move into the red tier by the 9th or the 16th if only 2 of the three metrics are being met? The case rate is coming down but if all three metrics have to be met for 2 weeks, how would that be possible in either 5 days or 12 days? Please help me understand.
Because they constantly move the goal posts.
Please try to pay attention.
cheeseburguesa:
The “Gov” has recently allowed a few other Counties to open up without exactly meeting all of the criteria (they were trending in the general direction of whatever….) And now there’s talk about changing the criteria (reference a link/post on Claycord from a few days ago). The Gov. is starting to run scared as it really appears that there are now more than enough legitimate signatures to cause a recall election – it’s starting to make national news. Hence his new found focus on opening schools, showing up in places he never did (like Fresno, etc.) to appease the parents..but without upsetting the Teacher’s Unions. Next thing we’re going to hear from the Gov. is that we shouldn’t have a recall election as it would cost too much money and CA has spent too much of its funds on the Pandemic (our taxable income). This guy can’t even utter a sentence longer than five words and less than a dozen hand gestures…just like Nancy Pelosi.
Ummm last I read, there is no END to COVID and that it will be with us forever, just like the flu and other diseases.
Ya cause if your not doin what the government says, your killing people 🙄 oh please ! just open this lame communist state. The children are rotting their brains at home with fake friends on video games
Thank you Bone Head and Plinko, I know the criteria keeps changing to fit the situation (San Francisco had their worst numbers when the stay at home order was lifted and we all got “promoted” to purple tier), it’s frustrating when they tell you one thing and do the opposite. All the while restaurants like the one I work in can’t prepare or project correctly since it seems to vary depending on what color the governor says the wind is today. It also explains why Newsom was saying he expects fans to be in the stands by opening day for the A’s and Giants after being silent on MLB for so long. “Following the science” should not be doublespeak for following the political motivation, but sadly it is.
They are changing the criteria with the equity part of the equation…now once the healthy places index community population hits less than 5% we will be accelerated into red…this information I got from watching 3/02 Board of Supervisors meeting. Also, this I copied from another post:
“Vaccinating disproportionately affected communities will also enable the state to modify its reopening thresholds in the coming weeks, Ghaly said, making it easier for counties to leave the most-restrictive purple tier of the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy.”
I feel for the restaurants that have to adjust to the whims of our leaders at the drop of a hat…
All I can say is: Thank God I fled the Commifornia state in December! I moved to an open Red state! Life is sooooo much better here and the kids LOVE attending open functioning “great” schools. Wow what a huge difference from California. It seems every state besides California knows how to run good schools and treat its citizens well.
You keep posting here…. are you the type to go back to high school while you’re in college and brag about how much better college is?
