Contra Costa County today is extending vaccine eligibility to anyone who is 50 and older and lives or works in the county, regardless of whether they have an underlying health condition.
The move comes as the county has begun receiving additional vaccine from the federal government for its federally-qualified health centers. This federal allocation is in addition to the vaccine the county gets from the state each week.
A week ago, Contra Costa expanded eligibility to ages 16-64 and older with qualifying underlying health conditions.
Today’s announcement removes any health-related qualifiers for those between the ages of 50-64.
More than 235,000 county residents are between the ages of 50-64.
Eligible residents may request a vaccine appointment through the county by filling out an online form or by calling 833-829-2626.
Up your’s Contra Costa County. We tried and you didn’t even respond. Thanks to CVS we got ours.
I agree. I got hosed off by the county. Was eligible and applied. Received 2 emails then nothing since. Eventually got in with sutter health, then 2 weeks after first shot was hosed off by sutter (one of the 90,000 wiped out by the state and gruesome newsome). Finally got a second dose on time through CVS. Took a lot of effort.
Now sippin Martinis in the afternoon.
Wait a minute….Gov.Newsom and the Democratic Party were just foaming at the mouth last month about how the vaccines need to be distributed to the people of color, the marginalized communities, the LGBTQRST…in the name of equity first. Has our 1st responders, medical staff, elderly, people with underlying health issues, educators, food handlers, and prison staff members already been vaccinated? I want to be a good liberal and follow the rules. No cutting in line for my family.
What’s the problem? It’s new rules or you just can’t comprehend that? Who said anything about cutting in line? If your over 50 you can get it, if not wait in line, pretty easy to understand, why are you so confused…last months statements is old news get over it…
Yes Chris, you have disrespected the confused rainbow people. You are now canceled. These people are special, very precious and special.
The whole thing is a hoax anyway. Just take your mask off and live your life. There is no virus.
@Chris,
If you had checked the CCC Health Department web site you would have realized that they are reporting that more than 100% of the county’s mixed race population has already been vaccinated.
@Chris: What a minute… you didn’t read the CDC report, and aren’t accurately representing what the report said or what the “Democratic Party” said.
The Vaccination Coverage and Social Vulnerability report from the CDC said nothing about LGBTQ people, and Newsom didn’t say that LGBTQ people should get vaccinated first. The report was based on factors related to poverty, housing status, wage, unemployment education, vehicle access and disability. Ethnicity was taken into some consideration, mostly in regard to language, but was weighted much less than the other factors, and nobody said that non-White people should get vaccines ahead of White people. It sounds like you are the one who is foaming at the mouth.
Last Monday, the state moved into the next category of vaccine eligibility. People with disabilities started signing up a week ago. Now people 50+ can sign up now too. In the meantime everyone from group 1A and 1B can still sign up if they haven’t. California has gotten new vaccine supplies in, and there are many more new vaccination sites available.
I ain’t flying or driving back to California for that! I’ll take my chances here in a free state where my wife has already received her pre 65 vaccine and we can eat in a restaurant afterwards.
We have indoor dining in California.
It pales in comparison you should try it, it’s called living and making your own decisions. But you aren’t about that are you?
Yes, we have indoor dining because our benevolent King Gavin is suddenly afraid of a recall.
That is so great that you found a dose for you and your wife! Maybe you’ll have some time later to participate in a local news discussion instead of trolling around in another state’s.
I’m in the age group that became eligible today. Registered with the County this afternoon. This evening I got the e-mail with instructions on how to schedule my appointment. The website was slow with so many people registering, but I was able to schedule my shot for Saturday. I’m happy!
Had same experience, once got email back, the website is well organized and made it easy to schedule the 1st vaccine, with many appointments available. Glad to see progress for those wanting a vaccine and the process or registering being smooth 🙂
Why do we have to contact the county to get the shot? why can’t we just go our PCP to get it?
Because the county is tracking those that get the shot. Are you a lib or a con.
Thank you for the info., as soon as posted I registered and have my appt. for Friday. So happy, I’ve been waiting for my turn.
