The Contra Costa County Public Works Department will begin construction on the Bailey Road/State Route 4 (SR4) Interchange Pedestrian and Bicycle Improvement Project on Monday, March 29, 2021 through October 2021.
Work will occur Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., weather permitting. Construction will be scheduled to minimize impacts to commute traffic. Drivers should expect delays and detours during construction.
The work will consist of removing the SR4 westbound loop off-ramp and pedestrian tunnel, as well as squaring-up the intersections of SR4 eastbound on and off-ramps, and removing the free right turns. Work also includes widening the SR4 westbound diagonal off-ramp, installing a traffic signal for traffic to go north and south bound on Bailey Road, modifying existing traffic signals, installing storm drain modifications, installing sidewalk along Bailey Road, and overlaying the pavement on Bailey Road within the interchange area.
Great! Drivers have been a real headache for pedestrians & cyclists. This will be safer for everyone.
Lol. I have to assume that is sarcasm since pedestrians and cyclists have been proven to case more accidents with cars than the other way around…
@ Oh, please, no sarcasm. There (and many other locations) cars drive on/freeway, change lanes, and speed with total disregard to pedestrians and cyclists.
Will wonders never cease. Been living off Bailey for nearly 40 years and Concord is finally putting in sidewalks. Wow!

The county owns about a 10 foot section of Bailey between Pittsburg and Concords. How about also filling the chuck holes in that part of Bailey also? Maybe even get together with Pittsburg and Concord an make that whole section a real road for cars. Then they could tear it all out again to include pedestrians and bicycles.
Not going to happen but wishful thinking prevails these days.

They should just shut it down and get it done sooner. Commuters could always use Kirker and Willow Pass for a short time.
