Maybe “people of color” jaywalk more-don’t know. Injuries almost assuredly will go up with this mindless legislation. Especially in the city.
It would be useful to report who the lawmaker is. My guess is that it is Scott
Weiner, but it’s only a guess based on prior idiocy.
Maybe the Jaywalking citations are disproportionately issued to people of color because people of color are disproportionately jaywalking?
But isn’t it possible people of color jaywalk more?
I’ve watched them toss litter in the streets more than once. Recently a woman of color standing at a bus stop on Clayton Rd unwrapped something to eat and just tossed the wrapper in the street. No class whatsoever. They hate our country.
I can’t help thinking that if I was a person of color I would be insulted by my government having such a low opinion of me. But then I am not a person of color.
Of the people I see jaywalking, the majority have been people of color.
Perhaps, just perhaps, someone should tell people of color not to jaywalk.
Or is that racist?
If you are a person dumb enough to jaywalk, you deserve a ticket.
I don’t care who you are or who you think you might be.

It is getting ridiculous! Everything now is ‘racist’. What worries me is that as the media and politicians keep pushing the narrative….. I’m afraid it’s going to backfire and they are going to make racists out of a lot of people who are not racist. Recently they’ve been blaming all the attacks on Asian Americans as being white supremacists, when in fact most all the attacks are being done by African Americans.

There have been a couple of security cameras catching assaults on elderly Asians, and in all cases (yes, I know it’s too small a survey
to be the final word) they were Black people. It would be interesting to survey the Police reports to see if that is really the trend.Of course, that won’t happen in SF, which has a large Asian population, and generally protect minority criminals, by blaming white people for the hatred.
That is the plan.

Now, if I can demonstrate that some minority get disproportionately charged with firearm offenses can we get rid of all our silly gun laws?
If that passes, then CA drivers should receive full immunity from any jaywalker they hit.
What a crock of sh*t. Maybe the politicians should just exempt people of color from having to follow any laws and just enforce laws against the “Uncolored”… The politicians and media are intent on making racists out of those who have never been racist and they are succeeding.

Not only the Jaywalker is at risk. The poor person that hits them will suffer probably for the rest of their lives. They need not to worry about “people of color” but all involved.
IF black men were disproportionately arrested for Domestic Violence and Rape, should those crimes be decriminalized as well?
Y’know I had to google it, and according to the FBI, blacks who represent roughly 13% of the population commit 27.4% of all rapes. This is a very troubling statistic and I wonder what the causes are.

And when one of these fine upstanding citizens jaywalking gets mowed down… Then what?
No citation for the jaywalker but the motorist will pay forever at the very least with the memory of hitting this “FreeWalker.”
If this should pass, there would be no restrictions on pedestrians of color walking into the street anytime anywhere.
Of course, people who identify as white would have to follow the usual pedestrian rules and regulations.
So if someone identifies as a black person, they could walk anywhere.
As a driver, how would they know who identified as what?
Everyone can walk anywhere at any time.

Fine, don’t complain, then when jaywalkers get run over; and start a fund to pay for the mental health care of drivers who get involved in fatal car vs jaywalker collisions.
The reporter did not state that people of color (that covers many ethnicities) were disproportionally issued tickets for jaywalking, but rather the tickets disproportionally impact people of color. Now, does that mean more tickets are issued? Those data were not part of the report, but a future report. If jaywalking tickets impact you, well, don’t jaywalk. Speeding tickets are expensive, so guess what, I don’t speed….much

Much like like the Biden border crisis, the only thing that can turn it around is a big dose of common sense. Unfortunately common sense isn’t very common right now.
Yes. George Floyd died from fentanyl abuse. He was arrested many times and was well known to claim he couldn’t breathe while resisting arrest.
Ok, as long as they de-criminalize running them over when they jaywalk.

Retired 30-year paramedic here. Auto vs pedestrian. Auto wins every time. Keep laws the way they are. They are that way for a reason.

Those folks do get hit too. So does this mean if I hit a person not in a crosswalk I am still as liable? Why don’t they reduce the charge? Why don’t they make sure they are not racially profiling folks too. Geesh, stop this please.
I don’t see the various comments as full of hate. I view them as full of anger. Once again the standards that were common sense behavior are being lowered.

We have one of these problem childs at work……and Every employee has had to go behind this problem child and correct their mistakes. Nobody in Management will deal with this issue because of “muh color”, I’ve resorted to taking photos of the situations and sending the jobs back to the individual, sorry……this is not the Special Needs workplace – I’m not taking up the slack for your lazy azz.
Same employee has a habit of calling in sick on their regular work day BUT then coming to work on their days off for overtime.

It all boils to the ‘blame, lack of responsibility for self and its always something or someone else’s fault’ culture’. And, most politicians are afraid of the group that harbors the belief.

Perhaps we should limit prosecution of bank robbery suspects if they are disproportionately people of color. Makes sense, right?

It is illegal because it is dangerous to them and to drivers — if you hit them at 35+mph jaywalkers will DIE. Color has nothing to do with this 🤦
I have to admit I got a jaywalking ticket when a teenager. Had to bring my father to court in downtown Los Angeles.
Of course they have a person of color reporting this, oh wait a minute every major network has more people of color working for them now than ever before so who are the racists now…yea it’s reverse racism, The blowback will be epic!
The Democrats are losing members so they are using scare tactics in an attempt to retain membership. Y’know when you’re in Oakland or SF, it’s night out, and the guys like to jaywalk across the street as slowly as possible at the worst time possible in order to inconvenience as many drivers as possible for as long as possible, in some sort of twisted, misguided, antisocial power-play?
If people would just jaywalk responsibly and quickly when it was actually clear, we wouldn’t even be talking about this.
Imagine decriminalizing something because certain phenotypical groups constantly commit that crime. Imagine it.
There is no such thing as jaywalking responsibly and quickly when it was actually clear. A car can come flying around the corner, and hit and kill you. Jaywalking isn’t convenient, it’s laziness and ignorant. People do it all the time, and they have no one to blame but themselves if they’re ticketed or hit and killed.
