Concord Police Officer Revives Toddler Who Was Exposed To Fentanyl

A police officer revived a toddler he found unresponsive after being exposed to the opiate fentanyl in Concord on Friday night.

Concord police lauded the quick actions taken by Officer Aaron Khamosh, who a driver flagged down on Salvio Street Friday night frantically asking for help.

Khamosh found a 2-year-old in the back seat of a vehicle had stopped breathing and began CPR. When the toddler remained unresponsive, the mother revealed that the child “got ahold of some fentanyl” and needed Narcan, the drug used to reverse an opiate overdose, police said.

Khamosh administered two doses of Narcan and the toddler regained consciousness. Medics took the child to a hospital in Concord and eventually to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, while the mother has been arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and possession of a narcotic.

“We are grateful the baby will survive this ordeal and for Officer Khamosh’s quick thinking,” Concord police said.

Thank you officer. The mother of the child should be placed into a residential drug treatment facility. Failure to complete or if unable to clean up, child must then be placed up for adoption. Unfortunately, some may never recover. Wishing all the best.

Oh don’t worry, the kid and mom are in the custody of the state. I’m just glad the kid wasn’t harmed due to the negligence of their parent. It required 2 full doses of narcan to revive the kid.

Well done Officer Khamosh. Glad to see the Police being allowed to administer Naloxone as they are often first on scene ahead of the Paramedics or Fire Department personnel.

The mother should be banished to a deserted island for her blatant stupidity if it indeed was her fault.
There is no place in society for stupid people that allow their child to get into Fentanyl somehow. The hell with treatment for the person responsible.

Thank you officer Khamosh. Well done!
Two doses of Narcan for a 2 year old is a hefty dose. That child was lucky to have been resuscitated. Hopefully he/she makes a full recovery.

Excellent job Officer Khamosh…

Thank you officer Khamosh for saving a child!

We all know where the fentanyl came from but we are more worried about police who protect themselves than fentanyl. Now that the border is open expect to see more fentanyl deaths. I can’t believe our country has fallen so far. If it wasn’t for businesses keeping the country running the government would collapse it in a minute.

Ricardoh – you do know Fentanyl is a “home grown” pharmaceutical and not something that is flooding in from Mexico. If anything the supply chain would be from Canada as their pharmaceuticals are pennies on the US dollar

According to the DEA, nearly all the fentanyl that comes into this country is smuggled through legal points of entry, including ocean ports, air mail, and cars/trucks passing through border check points.

The DEA reports that it is extremely rare for smugglers who avoid check points to carry fentanyl. Smugglers who avoid checkpoints carry marijuana, typically not fentanyl.

The border isn’t open. You need to consume from better news sources than Fox News, OAN, NewsMax, Parler.

Well Folks
Fentanyl is not made in the US it is from China to Mexico to the US. If Fentanyl was made in the US it would be about the only pharmaceutical that is.

Concord Guy
Sometimes it is better to say nothing then to say something that shows, well you know the thing.

@Well Folks – Fentanyl is absolutely not “home grown” at this point, although the cartels are looking to make it that way. The majority is mule’d in by illegal aliens from Mexico. They are promised safe passage and payment for carrying drugs into the United States. What’s amazing is how many agree to do it. They have no qualms about carrying in drugs. The illegal alien mules don’t give a crap about the United States or our citizens. To them, the United States is an economic zone that provides a means for them to send their pay back to Mexico.

Hope he didn’t leave without arresting the negligent parents.

Right there in the article.

GOOD TO KNOW. Officer just doing his job. Mother just failed.at hers.
Never to be trusted with a child again.
The area by OS and Todos Santos in Concord has gone downhill so rapidly. A gang and druggie hangout

Thank you Officer Aaron Khamosh.

I would like to see a picture of the mother.

Now, now Ricardoh we do not want to be accused as profiling although it would probably be fitting!
Guilty individuals cannot be ID this way or you will have all these “Cancel Culture” brain-deads suing, protesting, looting etc, etc…………………

Coincidently there is a story out of Arizona today about a Mexican couple with children in the car that raised suspicion when stopped by the police. The police had the drug dog go through the car and found over 800 Fentanyl pills in a child’s car seat.

HERO

Well done Officer Aaron Khamosh.

Many Thanks, Officer Aaron Khamosh!
Giving the gift of life is a blessing for you.
Saving one life is in a way saving all of our lives…

ahh? how’d he get a hold of fentinal? or do crimes involving children disproportionately effect blacks so it isn’t a crime for them?

p.s. i guessed the race of the parent as it wasn’t listed which means it doesn’t help the “racism” lies, hence they are probably black.

Does it really matter what race the mother is, white, black, Hispanic, mixed. She was arrested and will be punished as she should be. At least she was honest enough and had enough presence of mind to flag down a police car, she must have known she would be in trouble. So at least she wanted to save her child. I hope this is a wake up call and after she spends some time in jail, she will become sober and clean and can get her child back. If not hopefully there are family members who can care for the child, or it should be adopted. I agree with Wage Slave.

@ remember-
You might be right, you might be wrong. We don’t know.

But does it really matter what color the mom is? She’s a pos that allowed her kid to OD, either by having the drug in the open or by allowing an associate access to the child. Either way she failed.

@ Hanne-

I agree with you about the mother’s race. But you missed a BIG point.
“At least she was honest enough and had enough presence of mind to flag down a police car, she must have known she would be in trouble. So at least she wanted to save her child.”

This is not the case. According to the story, the mother said nothing about fentanyl until AFTER the officer could not resuscitate the child. An honest person intent on saving their child would have told the police what the problem was IMMEDIATELY! Mom waited because she was trying to save her own skin more than the child’s. SHAMEFUL!!!

Great job, Officer Khamash. I hope that this toddler gets a new lease on life.

There are plenty of white druggies in this area, btw.

not sure i disagree with you folks but my point was that stories these days are biased based on race.

so if the race of the person furthers the “black people are victims” lie than it is given, i.e. black person shot by white cop. but if it is black person shot by black person the story either isn’t reported or it is just added the pro-gun control nonsense with no mention of race.

The mother is white. It’s in the booking report at Martinez Detention Facility. She has prior arrests for drugs and identity theft.

She’s a druggie. no doubt, And endangered her child in an effort to avoid another drug arrest.

Excellent job and atta boy to the officer. Hope he remembers this when the job gets him down. Sometimes it’s worth it.

For the mother, I’m glad she fessed up to her crime in time for her child to be saved. I will pray for her that she takes this second chance to straighten herself out, become a stable productive citizen, and have a chance to be a part of her child’s life again some day. For her and the kid’s sake.

I’ll say it. This mother is a child abuser and an idiot. I don’t care what color she is.

This is why we have Police Officers.

Concord has the best Police Force around.

These folks deserve the salaries and the benefits they contract for.

I will always support the Police.

I will always turn a deaf ear to those who claim that we don’t need them.

Good job, officer! Well done!

So happy that baby is alive and better. Thank you officer for your quick thinking on the spot.

And people want to defund the police. Absolute lunacy. They are here to help us. More proof right here.

People who wanted to defund police are absolute morons!

I think you are missing the point. The officer involved did not use their gun, and a gun was not required. If anything this incident shows lethal force is not required for all emergency response. A non-police social worker in the same situation would also have been able to save this child.
Perhaps even more so, in situations which require “fessing up” it may be easier to confess and seek assistance from a non-police officer social worker than to a police officer. What happens next time if the next irresponsible mother/parent doesn’t seek help quite so soon? Would the child in this case be better off if they had received narcan treatment sooner?

Yes, they are here to help us – but not all of them have to have a gun and they don’t necessarily have to all be police.

@ Xennial

What the “H” are you talking about. No one said that lethal response is required in all emergency calls. This was obviously a non violent call, which never came close to requiring a gun. So your anti-police argument has no place here. Additionally, the mother flagged down the officer. According to you, she would have been better off seeking out a social worker? Yeah! Great argument. The baby would have been dead! “Would the child in this case been better off if they had received the Narcan treatment sooner?” And how do you propose to ensure that with a social worker? Hand it out preventively to all Fentnal users. Again, your argument makes no sense and doesn’t belong here.

Great job Officer Khamsh. You were there fir this child when it’s own mother let it down.

Excellent procedure for the CPD to have the specific antidote in each squad car!

geez i heard of ridiculous people giving their kid a little bit of Nyquil or codeine cough syrup to make them go to sleep when acting up in the past but giving Fentanyl… wow… Thankfully the child is ok.

The man is a bonafide hero! They should take some of that bling pinned to the chests of top brass and pin it on this officer’s chest! BRAVO!

@Xennial, feel free to sign up at the local police academy.

A citizen’s academy might be a good choice for Xennial and all the defund people. Maybe then they’d get an idea about what they’re talking about!

And you know Becton won’t charge the mother with child endangerment, she’s already suffered too much emotional stress. BS……impeach Becton.

Well done Officer Khamosh!

Unfortunately, “the system” will endeavor to reunite this child with their mother as soon as possible.

How frightening for the mother. She knew that getting help for her daughter meant she would likely be charged (and rightfully so) but she did it anyway.
Hope she gets the help she needs. Maybe this will be the spark.

That’s giving her the benefit of the doubt. OTOH, with her prior drug arrests, the police would no doubt put two and two together and quickly determine she was the source of the drug, so she was done. She knew she was going to jail either way, so there was no upside to denying the drugs were hers.

Thank you very much and God bless you with on time acting and save the child life. You guys are all Heroes.

This mother put this child ahead of herself. Hopefully now she will get the help she needs.

What the mother needs (or whoever let this happen) is a push over the railing of the GGB.

While I don’t think the mother should get her child back anytime soon, if ever. Your solution is very harsh, there are many productive members of society and the work force that kicked a drug or alcohol habit and became outstanding citizen.

Proposition 47 requires misdemeanor sentencing instead of felony for the following crimes: Personal use of most illegal drugs.

Judges in this state used to have a VERY powerful tool at their disposial,
Defendant was charged, then convicted of a Felony. During sentencing by the Judge a harsh State Prison sentence was handed down and was then conditionally stayed. Conditioned upon getting clean n sober, maintaining that sober state during years on Probation, usually 3 to 5 years, additionally they would maintain employment and be subject to random drug testing while on Probation. Judges made it very clear failure meant going to State Prison and doing the years long original Felony sentence.

But progressive liberal politicians became woke and embarrassed by CA’s growing prison population, their knee jerk fix was AB-109 causing county jail overcrowding in all 58 counties across the state. Prop 47 was their fix to jail overcrowding. They made it harder for Police to charge Felonies.

What happened to this child is inexcusable, what’s even worse is,

HOW MANY TIMES A DAY CHILDREN DIE FROM DRUG ODs,
because a parent has a drug abuse problem that
POLICE AND JUDGES ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO STOP ! ! ! !

The power they had to force substance abusers to get clean n sober was taken away from them.

You know what’s really sad about this situation, not only are we very quick to judge someone who may or may not have a substance abuse problem, but because of our ignorance in the facts unknown. But this could have been an even greater tragedy had the officer himself became ill from his exposure to the fentanyl by administering CPR to the child. Or broken the child’s ribs from unnecessary CPR when the Narcan was what was in fact truly needed. God bless the outcome and hopefully the child and mother get the assistance needed to enjoy a loving bond and healthy lifestyle.
