House Speaker Nancy Pelosi held an event today to highlight recently passed legislation intended to make it easier to report hate crimes against the Asian community.
Rep. Grace Meng, D-New York, and Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, introduced the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act in response to a rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders during the coronavirus pandemic.
Between March 19, 2020, and March 31, 2021, there were at least 6,600 hate crimes reported to the San Francisco-based nonprofit Stop AAPI Hate, which operates a reporting center for racist, discriminatory and xenophobic acts against the AAPI community.
Experts have said the true number of hate crimes against Asian Americans over the last 18 months is likely even higher since many go unreported.
In addition, the Pew Research Center found last July that 31 percent of Asian Americans reported being the target of racial slurs or jokes since the pandemic began.
“We have to keep talking about it so that people know what opportunities are there for them,” Pelosi said of the spike in hate crimes.
Last week, President Joe Biden signed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, making reporting resources available in multiple languages and makes grant funding available to state and local governments for hate crime reduction programs.
In the Bay Area specifically, multiple Asian residents have been physically attacked and killed in recent months.
As a result, the FBI’s San Francisco Division launched a new strategy earlier this month to work with local law enforcement to combat hate crimes against Asian residents.
If I understand it correctly, the primary goal of this bill is to increase local reporting of hate crimes to the Feds by providing financial incentives to localities to report said crimes. If localities accept the grants, but don’t report, they have to return the grant money with interest and other fees as specified by the AG.

A lot of what they roll into these Asian hate crimes has been going on for years. In the Asian culture they carry a lot of cash and more so during the lunar new year. Years ago the media was great at broadcasting this info making Asian females a easy target for thief’s. Now they use it to promote hate crimes even more. There is a growing problem but they have made it worse

I was very annoyed at Nancy Pelosi as she was talking during a clip of all the Asian beatings that happened in the Bay Area.
All the film clips showed clearly they were all African-American men doing the attacking, but she was blaming white supremacy.

I cannot believe that the Asians are so befuddle by the Demos that they keep re-electing Pelosi and other useless Demos back into office!! I want one single scrap of evidence that Asians are being targeted more than other races.
Asians are the richest and highest educated ethnicity in America. They live in wealthy areas, where there is less crime. The average Asian household makes about 25% more than the average white household. That alone should result in a lower than average rate of Asians suffering violent crime.
Democrats have emptied the prisons and our DA refuses to prosecute crimes, so of course all races are suffering increased rates of violent crime. There is no evidence whatsoever that Asians are being targeted especially, and I’m sure the evidence would prove the opposite.
