#1) August 16, 1977. Elvis Presley died. The radio stations (remember them?) played his music all day and into the night. Still have the cassettes that his music was taped on. Don’t be cruel. That’s alright Mama. Heartbreak hotel. Jailhouse Rock.
To this day, Elvis Presley has sold more records than any other artist.

I remember Jon-Erik. Young actor with a great career ahead of him. Killed playing with a starter’s pistol on a studio set, I think it was, Used to tell his story as part of gun safety demonstrations, but the one celebrity death that affected me the most has been that of Robin Williams.
Noj – I vaguely remember Hexum being replaced by Antony Hamilton on Cover Up.
mtzman – it was a Movie prop but yes during a delay in filming Hexum thought it would be funny to play Russian roulette thinking blanks were safe. Poor safety briefing, and poor weapons handling.
I remember thinking the Dude had the world by the tail and all it took was one lapse… It was certainly an object lesson in weapons handling and critical thinking for me.

She was a neighbor or friend to a DHS whistleblower Julia Davis (whom they wanted to silence)….and she was eyewitness to some of that harassment. The made for TV and mainstream reports were total fabrications about flu or drugs….she was taken out in order to prevent her from testifying on behalf of Davis.
She should’ve received an Oscar for her role as Shellie in Sin City.

Robin Williams. Still can’t watch many of his iconic movies without tearing up.
Heath Ledger. That one caught me beyond off guard, I wasn’t even a huge fan, but that one rocked me.
Kobe Bryant. My heart just aches for the family he left behind.
Aaliyah. She was only a couple years older than me and in the PRIME of what could have been a lifelong career. And it was SUCH an avoidable accident.

JFK. He was a hero of mine. I was about 9 years old. I’ll never forget when the announcement came over the speaker in the room. They dismissed class the rest of the day.
@WC, JFK (read my post below) was a hero of mine and my dad’s as well. I was staying with my aunt in Copenhagen, we were watching TV, and when the first bulletin come on, about 30 minutes or so later, the news that JFK had died. I will never forget my aunt’s reaction “My god they shot him”. The next day I went back to my parents place for the week end (30 miles) and the next 4 days Denmark did what the US did, we sat glued to the TV.

Yes, news of her death was what I thought of as being the one that shocked me the most. We didn’t have a TV hooked up back then, and I was in the process of packing us for a move when my husband returned home from work late in the evening and the first thing he said when he came out of the car was, “Did you hear the news, Princess Diana is dead.” It wasn’t like I was a huge fan or anything, but I grew up with her always in the news. I just remember exclaiming, “How!?” as it was so perplexing to me. The only other one that felt shocking it’s not more sad, was when I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash. It was one of those moments where I just remembered exactly where I was and what I was doing.

All musicians I noticed which indicated that I could care less about actors however when Robert Duvall moves on, there will be tears.

For me it was Eddie Van Halen. Sure I knew he was ill, but still, when it was announced in the media my heart sank 😔

Definitely JFK, I was 18 in my native Denmark and when he ran for President it was the first time I paid any attention to American politics, and it was so chocking. Before that the only people I knew that died were grandparents, and older people in the small rural town I grew up in.. Five years later I was an au pair in Westport, Ct, when RFK was assassinated, when I was told Kennedy had been shot, (he was still alive then) my first thought was, but he was shot 5 years ago, then reality set in, and just a few months after MLK, truly chocking.
Also Jackie Kennedy, my girl friends and I were fascinated by her as First Lady and grieving widow, but she had been ill, so not as chocking as her husband death. Have to mention Princess Diana, and JFK Jr. and some of my favorite music stars of the sixties Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix.
