Contra Costa County Public Works will begin construction of the Marsh Drive Bridge Replacement Project starting on Monday, June 7, 2021 through January 2023, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Work will occur between 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday-Friday, weather permitting.

Work will take place on Marsh Drive, approximately 0.2 miles west of Solano Avenue, in both unincorporated Contra Costa County and the City of Concord.

The project will include reconstruction of approximately 1,000 feet of Marsh Drive near the bridge, installation of a retaining wall, channel improvements, and relocation of various utilities including water, electric power, and communication facilities. Work includes replacing the existing bridge with a new concrete bridge in a slightly shifted alignment to the north in stages built to current standards.

When are they going to widen Willow Pass Rd at Kenny bridge going to hwy 4?

That old Highway 24 bridge is likely to be removed when that area is developed.

Looking forward to that one getting redone!

I hope they can fix more roads like they did on MCR.

Has anyone noticed on Marsh Creek Road from Clayton to Brentwood since they fixed the road the accidents have gone way down. There seemed to be an accident weekly before it was fixed. The project consisted of installing a centerline rumble strip, restriping of the centerline etc.

Has anyone that drives MCR daily noticed a difference?

I also wonder how much traffic will be backed up near the Concord Pavilion on the 4th of July. I read they are have fireworks up there.

How soon till the city renames it the Thurgood Marshall reconstruction replacement bridge?

Make the name longer and I am sure they will consider it.

So how much does it cost to provide temporary housing for the homeless while their current bridge (home) is being demolished and the new one built?

That old Marsh Drive bridge used to be the bridge for Hwy 4 before the freeway was widened and moved north. The bridge was built in the 1940s.

@rw

Spot on correct – the old road provided the main link east & west and this bridge was and still is a transit backbone. Factual and true … a very nice thing to see on this site.

Thank you as this was refreshing.
