A winter storm warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday in the Greater Lake Tahoe area as Sunday marks the start of a five-day storm series in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

Significant snow accumulations of up to 8 feet in higher elevations is expected accompanied by strong winds of more than 100 mph along ridges with gusts to 50 mph in lower elevations.

Sunday night travel is expected to be “difficult to impossible,” and travelers can expect that “lengthy travel delays are certain.”

An avalanche watch was also issued, with periods of high avalanche danger from Sunday evening through Wednesday morning between Yuba Pass (Highway 49) and Ebbetts Pass (Highway 4.) These conditions are the result of heavy snow loading on an already weak snowpack.

The Weather Service is advising motorists to avoid travel if possible and be prepared to be stranded for hours. Those who must travel are advised to carry an emergency kit with extra food, water and clothing.

Monday snowfall is predicted to be heavy continuing into Tuesday. Yuba Pass to Donner Summit could see 60 to 72 inches of snowfall by Tuesday night, with Tahoe receiving up to 96 inches at higher elevations.

Wednesday may bring a brief break in the weather with a quick moving system moving into the area on Thursday.

Call 511 for updates on the latest road conditions.

Stick this weather report in your you know what water police.Dry weather climate change? What are you going to predict next.

At this point, I am more inclined to believe in micro waves and seading clouds. Orchestrated by evil globalists. After all of the political lying cheating and stealing, it is not even a stretch.

Nikola Tesla explored the idea of creating weather. I am sure the securing of his notes posthumously were quite a find through the decades.

Radar map now doesn’t show much. Lets hope it changes later on.

Tell that to the people that live up the hill from me in Tahoe. Chain controls on Mt Rose Hwy & Spooner Pass. Schools closed today due to heave blowing snow. Even us in the valley are to get 6″ -8″ inches of snow between tonight and tomorrow morning. So whatever map you are looking at isn’t the one we are seeing herte

Looks nasty! Thanks for posting the link!
I’ve driven in that and I don’t like it.

I rode home in the back of an unheated van in a storm like that, in traffic one Sunday afternoon, at 20 miles per hour with two wet and smelly dogs. Longest trip of my life.

Yes, we and our owners have been watching the “house” in Tahoe” Withmore going on and them calling almost daily, I’m happy……

I keep hearing about a drought and global warming. But also record cold temperatures and a monsoon and major storm systems. Weird.

At least gavin will have extra water to sell to fund CRT and hormone blockers for school children.

I went through Tahoe a few months ago after not visiting for like a decade, and it was so beautiful.

That is all.
