The Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose is offering free COVID-19 vaccination clinics for anyone age 5 and up and giving the kids passes to the museum in return for being vaccinated.
However, children must be accompanied by a “responsible caregiver over the age of 12,” according to the museum.
The “responsible caregiver who is over the age of 12” must stay with the child for the duration of their time at the clinic (registration, vaccination, and observation), the museum said.
When did 12 become the new “adult” age? They can now determine if their “child” can get vaccinated? Um… yeah…. Ok.
Just democrats being democrats. They want to lower the age of consent for their minor attracted constituents. This is part of that.

Purposely worded in vague terms. Also, 12 year olds don’t carry id to prove their age. So if a 10 or 11 year old says they’re 12 ….

So at 12 I had a paper route that provided me with extra money but doubt that it was enough to be a responsible care giver for anyone… I thought we had labor laws. Shouldn’t this be something that is investigating

Usually typos that have received media coverage are quickly corrected. Perhaps their web site person is on vacation as https://www.cdm.org/vaccination/ still has “Children must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver over the age of 12.” I suspect whoever wrote that has no clue on the concept of legal guardianship and medical decisions on behalf of minors. Clueless is the new woke.
There is a loophole in that California is one of two states with no specified minimum age to get married. Assuming you could get a judge to sign off, your four year old can get married and that person could be a legal guardian for others. This does not explain the logic, if any, behind using age 13 or over as the responsible caregiver cut-off age by the Children’s Discovery Museum of San Jose for their vaccination events.

It’s not a typo, just checked website…free pass for up to 8 family members so long as a guardian 12 and over is there for administration of shot.

Sure, many 12 year olds are sufficiently “responsible” to care for younger children, but that has NEVER extended to their ability to authorize a medical procedure on the child(ren) in their care. This beyond insanity – but then, we are residing (not sure this counts as “living”) in the PRC (People’s Republic of California).

The Children’s Discovery Museum has updated https://www.cdm.org/vaccination/ to add two new paragraphs. The new paragraphs start with the words “Consent” and “Accompanying” in bold. They now make it clear that the parent or legal guardian needs to fully complete and sign a consent form. You can send the child to be vaccinated with another “responsible caregiver” child.
The update creates an inconsistency in that the old wording with “over the age of 12” is still there but in the new paragraphs it’s “12 and older.”
