Concord police said a person trying to help a robbery victim at Sunvalley Mall was shot Friday afternoon by suspects who fled the scene.
Police said the person shot was in critical, but stable, condition at a local hospital.
Officers responded to a 3:44 p.m. report of a shooting in the lower level of Sunvalley and found one person with gunshot wounds. Police determined the person was trying to help a robbery victim and was shot by suspects who fled the mall.
Police encourage anyone with information about this incident to call the Concord Police Department confidential tip line at (925) 603-5836.

Scary place. My wife and I were there on a Saturday afternoon about 1 pm a week before Christmas. Didn’t feel safe inside the mall. First time i’d been there in about 4 years. Even more scary walking through the parking lot by Sears.

The Police will arrest the shooter, of this I have no doubt.
The question is what will the DA do if anything at all?

Hard to believe there was not one concealed carry individual near enough to that to stop that guy from getting shot or at least shooting the freaking suspects in the act. I certainly would not have hesitated if I was close enough.
People simply cannot wait for the cops to get to the scene of a crime as it is happening.
It’s not hard to believe there wasn’t a concealed carrier near enough to the person being robbed to help. There are not very many legal concealed carry licensees in Contra Costa County. There are fewer than 400 CCW licenses in a count of 1.2 million people. The chances of one of those people being there at that specific time are very small.
Well no one in this county at least is allow to conceal carry, and here is where crime is going up dramatically during this turbulent times.
Interested to find out if maybe the good samaritan that stepped in and got shot maybe he was carrying I mean after all who would go up against two guys that had a gun who just robbed someone if they were not armed, maybe just I want to be tough guy got dealt a bad hand you know never bring your fists to a gunfight.
I listed to the actual dispatch call and I have never heard a more disorganized call (on the officer side.) The dispatcher had to ask one officer 3 different times where his location was at the mall. Then another officer said, after being at the location for 10 min, they needed more officers to set up a crime scene…another officer had to be told 3 different times the location of Lens Crafter store, on the lower level by food court. I thought that they had apprehended the suspects. When I stopped listening the cops were reporting to dispatch, they had 2 suspects at gunpoint. Wrong people? Wouldn’t surprise me. Are the just hiring anyone now to be a cop? Are they that short staffed?
The police radios have spotty reception in the mall. But imagine having to navigate people running out, while trying to find the victim, AND looking for the suspect.
The PD is hiring. Perhaps you can join up and show us all how it is done.

Sun Valley Mall needs to change their image. Look at what they sell and notice the maggots who go looking for it for free and when they can’t get it, they rob the shoppers for it..

The Chesa Boudin recall is coming this June. If that is successful perhaps we can next get rid of Gascon and Becton. These three are arguably the most dangerous people in California.
They go out of their way to provide dangerous serial offenders with the most expedient path back into the public to commit more crime. They are aiding and abetting. Since we can’t hold them liable, we must vote them out.

If you get a CCW in any one of California’s 58 counties you can legally carry in ALL other counties in California!
A CCW is very easy to get in all but a few metropolitan county areas. Having lived in Penn Valley and other areas outside and in the Sierras such as Placer county and Nevada county as well as any other non big metropolitan county but Contra Costa, Alameda, LA etc is hard to get one but about 50 other counties is very easy to get a CCW permit and don’t let anybody tell you that it’s not. it is no big deal and very easy to get a CCW, and after that being done that said person can carry in any other county in California.
And again I stress with a lot of up above comments most people don’t know caca about gun laws in California especially CCW restrictions.
You’d be surprised how many people in the immediate Bay area actually have active CCW permits that have gotten their permits in another county because I have a main residence in another county and keep that permit active.
You need to be a resident of the county where you are I applying for a permit. A Contra Costa resident cannot go to one of the leds restricted counties and get a permt..
So to have a snowball’s chance in hell, you just need to own an entire, separate property in an entirely different county of California.
Real estate in CA is notoriously affordable.

@Torcofuel-You may have a CCW, but the chance of getting a CCW if you live in CoCo County are slim to none. You may have the ability to have one since you maintain a residence in a better County, but not everyone can do the same. Your experience isn’t everyone’s experience.
CoCo County approves such a small percentage of CCW permits and there is no change in sight. If they did issue more freely, how many would carry each and every day to every single place?
In any event, this isn’t about a CCWer getting involved, but a rise in crime all over CA, most notably here in the Bay Area.
Even if you were 100% in the right, in a defensive use of your CCW, Becton would go after you with all shes got. Look at what happened to Kyle Rittenhouse.

Frank, its not “encrypted radio traffic.” Whatever that is. It’s called Broadcastify and it allows you to listen to live radio from hundreds of first responder departments all over the country. If you pay a quarterly fee you also get access to archived feeds. Not every single PD or FIRE is on there but there are ALOT. I highly recommend checking it out. Concord PD has at least 2 radio channels so you dont get everything but you usually get the dispatch to officer calls.
some municipalities encrypt their radio traffic so that the public can not avail themselves of what is going on in policing. San Bernardino City is one such place. good thing we dont have crime here.
Actually, Savagette, CPD has over a dozen talk group channels. But only 3 main radio channels that are monitored.
The arcade/bowling alley/karaoke place Round 1 has brought in a really bad element. It was never like this before. Now you can observe rough people getting into altercations in the parking lot on a daily basis, and now we have shootings and broad-daylight muggings.
I’m never setting foot in Sunvalley Mall again if I can help it.
City of Concord continues to do absolutely nothing about the Sun Valley Mall problems. I wish they would respond in some manner like adding more police presence & actually telling the public about it! Feels like our city council doesn’t care enough about this. They have a million meetings about homeless outreach but no mention of constant gunfights at the mall.
And what exactly is the Concord Police department supposed to do about the Sunvalley Mall problem? They don’t have a big enough police force to do anything about the problem and neither does any other city with their malls.

How about having a Concord police substation in the mall? And manned during mall hours? A constant police presence is needed.

Sun Valley needs to become a residential development.
It should have lots of homes of varying values, apartments, condos, shopping, restaurants, and parks.
Hilltop Mall closed – now the pieces of $hit have taken their activities to Concord and WC.
And the democrats just ignore it and pass laws that only impact the law-abiding.

Why not reduce the number of entrances, and install TSA type security at the remaining entrances. If they can do it at crowded airports it should be relatively simple at an almost abandoned shopping mall. Strong security measures are the only way to rebuild confidence in shoppers who actually pay for their items. Then the bad guys will move on to other easier targets.

I never see television interviews of DA Becton like we do other counties. What gives? She is doing a disservice by not updating the county residents on the progress of serious crimes. Like this shooting. Why isn’t the media getting her take on what will be done?
