The City of Concord will continue the process of redistricting at a virtual public hearing at 7 p.m. Jan. 10.
The city council will receive an update on city progress, receive public input, and provide initial direction to the demographer on the composition of the draft maps.
Redistricting typically happens every ten years when the federal government releases census results. The goal is to have equal populations within each district, while recognizing other factors, like natural geography or existing municipal boundaries.
The City of Concord said in a statement it wants feedback concerning “communities of interest” – populations with common social or economic interests that should be in a single district for fair and effective representation.
The final map determines voting districts. Concord first drew the boundaries for its five districts with community input and adopted them in early 2018.
Feedback can be provided verbally or via email through public comment at the meeting, or through a “community of interest” form located on the city’s Redistricting website. Residents are also invited to submit their own draft maps, which are due by Jan. 18.
The city held a public hearing in November and has since hosted two workshops, providing information about how to use the mapping tools and provide feedback. Enough of this virtual garbage. When will we have public forums to discuss plans and issues? Is the city trying to keep us down? Seems to be working.
Will Concord do anything above the bare minimum to generate more jobs outside of the downtown corridor?
– Clayton Road re-development is sorely needed. Strip malls need to be adjusted in size/proximity to street to allow more businesses to flourish.
– Terminal shopping Center is trashed while being walking distance to hundreds of homes.
– The K-Mart property is currently surplus space while the rest of the center is under used. What pavilion improvements can be made to generate more income?
– The backside of Park N shop is under utilized, and has been for decades.
– How’s that monster empty lot on Monument doing?

A shootout took place at a cannabis store in San Leandro between a security guard and some bad guys who were breaking into the pot retail outlet yesterday. A news story a couple of days earlier reported an Oakland cannabis store was burglarized on successive days.
These stores are bad for San Leandro, bad for Oakland, and bad for Concord. You can predict the stores will at some future point be targets of these roving gangs of smash and grab burglaries, along with occasional gun fights.
As some new aware, Concord City Manager Valerie Barone has been an enthusiastic backer of retail cannabis stores in Concord. She has made expanding the number of cannabis retail outlets in Concord, which attract gun toting robbers, burglars, and all sorts of assorted creeps and deadbeats, a cornerstone of her efforts to “Improve”our city.
Barone even got the last police chief to endorse expanding the number of stores (he wanted to get a “cut”of the cannabis tax dollars – more “booty” for the grotesquely overfunded Concord Police department! Concord PD, in fact, is now a “partner” of the pot stores because – as many in Concord know every available tax dollar in Concord flows directly in the pockets of the people working at the PD.
I think city officials need to rethink this business of making Concord the cannabis capital of the county By expanding the number of cannabis stores council members – along with the greedy public officials who run Concord (most of whom don’t live in our city, won’t even be caught red in Concord after the get off of work}- are making our city less safe. The shootouts, the murders, and the smash and grab robberies – which will be coming soon – are going to happen because of the greed of city officials, and the greed of those people running Concord PD.
So…… they took pot shots at each other?
