A small fire is burning in the hills off Pine Hollow Road in Concord.

Thanks to Kurt for the pictures. He says it looks like a pile of hay that’s on fire on the Mangini Ranch near the quarry.

Several firefighting units are on scene.

UPDATE: It appears to have been a small structure. Thanks to Ken Swenson Photo for the zoomed in photos from the scene.

I live not too far from there. That was quite the thunderclap this morning at around 7:30. I’m speculating that this fire was started by a lightning strike.

I assumed it was hay since it was next to a horse corral. It could also be a pile of dead tree branches, about 5 feet tall. That’s the best I could make out thru binoculars. It’s still burning at 10am, started at 8am.

I believe it was a barn there. I know I have seen the building in the past. I would estimate the flames at over 30 foot high. Whatever it was, it had a good amount of a fuel source.

Yep, it was a barn. Now that the smoke has cleared I can see the only thing left is the chimney. I guess I first saw it after the barn collapsed into a pile.

If anyone has an older Valley Oak tree on their property..There is an epidemic of fungus and rot that could bring it down at any time in this strange weather. You can’t tell by looking, it’s all inside the tree.
Also, read about Scott’s Restaurant old tree that had to be taken down for safety.reasons due to this.
Better safe than sorry
