4067 Clayton Rd. is now an apartment complex, and 5358 Clayton Rd. is now Mountain Mike’s Pizza.

Had my first pizza (pepperoni, of course) at the Shakey’s Pizza Parlor in Oceanside, Ca. At a birthday party. My parents never ate pizza.
We serve fun at Shakey’s also pizza!

We used to go to Shakey’s Pizza after every Friday night football game.
We apparently traded Shakeys for dominos. Why?
The Straw Hat on Clayton road used to have live music. My childhood drum teacher was in a group called “The Countrymen” and they played there. Nothing like live country music with a steel guitar while eating pizza…….
There were 2 Straw Hats on Clayton Rd……….one by the bowling alley and one down by those giant trees………..are the trees still there? I don’t live in Concord anymore…….I know they tore down the Crossings smokestack.
@reekorizzo….Only two of the original three eucalyptus trees still stand in El Monte Center.
I knew “Shakey”…. he was a fun guy but he drank way too much all the time…. he also had Parkinson’s …. but he could sure spread the cheese and olives out nicely.
They don’t make ’em like that anymore.
I knew Shakey, too – he was a good man and I don’t recall any heavy drinking or Parkinson’s disease. He dropped a lot of weight in the Pacific in WW II because of some tropical disease and began shaking (therefore the nickname). You won’t find many men better than he was.

@DD….. Sham’s, one of the best, crispy crust, salami and cheese…mmmm! One of my folk’s dating hot spots, probably my first pizza.
We used to eat at both of these places, ~50 years ago!
Is it me, or were the pizza’s just delicious? I remember the experience, the smells, and the atmosphere. It was a fun event for a 12 y/o.

the last Shakey’s in Northern California is in my hometown of Oroville. Have to stop by a get Mojo’s whenever I’m up there!
I have great memories of the Orovile Shakey’s as well.
What I remember most about Shakey’s is the Ye Olde notice signs.

Shot me plenty of ducks at the good ole Straw Hat as a young whipper-snapper. But tje best pizza in town for me was Sundances of Chicago. … hands down.
The duck hunting game is what I remember about Shakey’s!! And also that my Mom didn’t like the pizza as much as Pizza Hut (when they were also a sit-down restaurant (where Dunkin’ Donuts is now).
@reekorizzo, Did you ever play in the old smoke stack? My friends and I did. We also played in the old houses in what was Cowell Town before Turtle Creek.. There is still one big eucalyptus tree still growing in the El Monte shopping center near the road. Not sure if the shopping center is still using that name.
