Concord Police are asking residents and businesses to join what they call a new police-community partnership known as the Community Electronic Eye (CEE) Program.
Police say the goal is to help “solve crime” with the help of the community’s private video cameras.
Participation in this program is voluntary and free. Police are asking community members to register their privately-owned surveillance camera systems. As officers investigate criminal incidents, they may be able to use footage gathered from community cameras.
A statement on the city’s website, police say, “Officers going door to door during an investigation is time-consuming, especially when time is of the essence to solve a crime. One solution is knowing where security cameras are located, so if a crime occurs near a registered camera, officers can quickly contact the camera owner and work with them to view and recover video if needed.”
Police say that the CEE program will allow them to contact private community members and ask to see footage that they may have collected.
Concord Police said that participation in the program does not provide the department “direct access to your camera system or footage.”
The site also says that any information they gather through the footage is for official use only and that personal information will be kept confidential and will not be made for public dissemination.
“Our goal is to empower residents by taking a community-wide approach to policing. We hope that you will join us in this initiative and help protect the community we all care about,” they said.

Oh, I have an idea, how about we give every citizen the right to open-carry. The cameras would be an extra bonus.

I signed up because I trust the greater good as means not just for myself for the community and our Police and not the criminals.
Why? There was video of a home invasion in Pleasant Hill….it was covered by the News media & The CRIMINAL DA let them off.
The only thing a camera is going to do is Convict a Victim for defending themselves.
I would not be interested in being part of a registered “electric eye” brigade. Too Orwellian to me.
Why? Even if we citizens give video evidence, cops are interested in solving crimes because they blame the DA for not prosecuting crimes. Did anybody see a ABC7 investigation where a concern citizen contacted the SFPD with videos of thieves fencing stolen items in the daylight at a park and yet the sfpd didn’t do anything?
I say we form a group to keep our neighborhood safe. Since concord high school isn’t interested in having the minuteman identity; let us call the group the minuteman!
Let’s take it one step further and use our dash cams also.
No way! It’s my camera. If they ask to view a certain moment to see if my camera picked up something that will help them solve a crime then I will be happy to help. I don’t need the government looking into my life.

Last year, a car was stolen right down the street from me. I pulled the video and put on a flash drive. You could see a white SUV drive down the street. Shortly thereafter the stolen car and the SUV drive back by,
I contacted Martinez Police and I dropped off the flash drive. MPD took it. I told them I would like the drive back. In a week, I called and asked if they’ve looked at the video or transferred it to a PC.. NOPE. Another 7-10 days, and NOPE. The officer said “why don’t you just come down and get it. We’re very busy…” Really? WTF, LOL

The day will come when a crime occurs that the owner of the registered camera commits while on camera and while the police department is watching.
Or where a registered camera owner reports a crime committed against them and then implicates themselves in another crime either unknowingly or knowingly.
It’s almost as if the police is planning for this to happen but the article will never mention it and not many people will think about it anyways.
The day will come when some activist judge rules that all cameras viewing public areas must be accessible by law enforcement.
Once again it will be; “for the greater good.”
