The following letter is from MDUSD Superintendent Dr. Adam Clark:
Dear MDUSD Parents and Staff:
I am writing to inform you that Mt. Diablo Unified School District Administration was informed today (Thursday) by Concord Police that Dean Walker, a teacher who has previously taught at Pine Hollow Middle School, has been arrested on suspicion of multiple felony and misdemeanor counts related to inappropriate acts with minors.
Mt. Diablo Unified School District continues to be committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students. This commitment requires us to always look for the best employees we can find, and to immediately separate from those who we determine should not be on our school sites or near our students.
In March, the District learned about complaints from students regarding Mr. Walker. Based on the content of the complaints, the District and school principal decided to immediately investigate. The teacher was removed from the classroom (all MDUSD sites) at that time and placed on administrative leave during the investigation.
Mr. Walker has not been allowed to return to teaching at the school during the District and law enforcement investigations. The District has already taken action toward permanent separation of the teacher’s contract.
Please know that Mt. Diablo Unified School District will continue to do everything we can to provide a safe learning environment for all students, and we appreciate the quick response by law enforcement in this matter, as well as the students who have provided information. The District is cooperating with law enforcement authorities to the fullest extent permitted by law. If you have any relevant information to share about this case, please contact Detective Demott of the Concord Police Department at (925) 603-5851. Additional information will be shared as appropriate or as necessary, but we cannot release any more details at this time.

It’s been a while since I’ve heard of a male teacher accused of inappropriate acts with minors. These days, it seems to be mostly women doing that.
Absolutely sadden as a parent to have to read this disgusting 🤢news today . This sick individual was one of my sons teachers . Known to be one of the “favorite” teachers at school who used this to lure innocent teens. Children finally get back to school to be subject to this disgusting individual.
Let’s not jump to conclusions. We’ve been burning people down before they even reach a trial who later turn up innocent. Let the process go through before labeling someone anything.
But our first commitment is changing mascots.
Really? You want to circle back to the mascot thing? Did you know the district isn’t the one who’s changing the schools mascots? YV and Concord are the ones who made these choices.

Actually, the CHS Principal is the one that told parents the District was the one requiring the change of mascot. And I also think the emphasis on (and $$ required for) mascot changing, while not informing the public about these predator teachers in a timely fashion is exactly the kind of questioning of priorities that should be done. Changing mascots is the irrelevant, ignorant, and petty issue.

My son was a student at Pine Hollow a few years ago. Luckily, he never had Mr. Walker, and my son does not remember him. Was he a teacher in charge of any special clubs?

I’m not sure people understand how it works. The districts (all districts in CA) fingerprint people. If someone has NEVER BEEN CAUGHT there is no way for anyone to know. Believe me, I am not a fan of MDUSD but expecting any district to just know is ridiculous unless someone has a record.

They didn’t. It’s not like pedophiles commit abuse out in the open public. If your child was abused by someone you trusted, does that mean you “let” it happen? Or does it mean that you and your child were betrayed? He betrayed everyone who invested confidence in him. Union included, regardless of how you feel about the union.

i seem to remember media reports a ways back that the district supported and helped defend a teacher in civil court who had been convicted of such felonious and perverted acts.

As I keep reading articles like this… My mind starts to really wander.
Teachers never made good money teaching at public schools. They always complained and always were right to do so anyways.
Do these public school teachers really want to teach government regulated and mandated curriculum to the youth of our society even though they themselves may know some of this information is either biased, falsified, or a distraction? Some may be true and some a flat out lie? And some of the material the teacher themselves disagrees with completely?
So what is the benefit? They get the summer off?
We’ve seen Mr. Walkers answer to this question for working where he worked at by his recent case of arrest.
My point basically is, is that these people that want to become teachers at these schools need to be rigorously interviewed about their seriousness on why exactly they want to teach the youth of America.
Otherwise a million more of these articles will come along.
And yeah, everyone is going to say background checks. There needs to be more done than that.
