In case you were wondering, Starbuck’s is planning to build a coffee shop at the old Tahoe Joe’s location on Contra Costa Blvd., near Willow Pass Rd. in Pleasant Hill (next to See’s Candy).

This location will have a drive-thru with enough room for 16-vehicles, according to planning documents.

… just what we don’t need.. another Starbucks 🙁

LOL

Really? Just what we need in the area. Another Starbucks! We couldn’t attract another restaurant to the site? Amazing! Disappointment!

Gosh…

Was hoping for a Texas Roadhouse…

opps… I meant Olive Garden

@S….It’s hard to find a decent place anymore for good “grilled corn snake on a stick” now.

now you’re talking

🤣🤣🤣

No Olive Garden but Texas Roadhouse, YES

That would have been a great location for an Olive Garden!
Another Starbucks? I don’t understand it
And BTW…. We now make the most delicious coffee at home with our new Keurig coffee machine for the 4th of the price of a Starbucks. Their coffee is actually nasty I don’t understand what people see in it.

What a waste of real estate

took the words out of my mouth.Doh/.
Very sad….would love a good casual steakhouse or Marie Callenders.
I’d settle for a Carlos Murphy’s.

People love Starbucks.

Always a long line of idling waiting cars. Even with expensive gas.

What in the world is the Pleasant Hill city council thinking. There a Starbucks in the Target shopping center. I believes there’s a Starbucks in Sunvalley Mall. Going south you may have to go 2 miles to find one.

A lot of people love really stupid things. That is why we have had dems controlling CA for so long. CA has shown they like stupid things that are not good for them. So, this is no surprise.

We need to help the CEO get a space program going.

Why not a Peet’s? They are so much better then Starbucks!

I wholeheartedly agree with you!!!

+1

minus the Pete’s in the Ygnacio Plaza on Ygnacio.valley rd. Weak, tepid coffee, with a bunbh of wokes who can’t even sweep under the counters or make correct change. pffft!

From Walnut Creek to Auburn to Santa Rosa, the bathrooms are always filthy at Peet’s. Perhaps that’s part of the Peet’s experience.

Over roasted! Tastes Burned, You could never sell their Stuff in any European country. Only in America.

Location Location Location

– Valley View Middle School
– College Park High School
– DVC

The target audience for sugary drinks.

Bring back Carlos Murphy’s

Yes!!! Miss the Monster Cookie all my friends and I would share on our birthdays!!

And Baxter’s!

It’s probably been over 20 years I’m still mad that that place is gone!

The .38 Special video on Youtube below is about as perfect a representation of Carlos Murphy’s in the early 80s that you can get. Clothing, hairstyles, etc. are identical. That transitional period between the 70s and 80s (1980-1982) was awesome.

Carlos Murphys was the BOMB!!!!!

We make our own coffee and we can add all the sugared cream we want.
Anyway, traffic is a big concern and of, course, the city held hearings on this and got paid mightily for this location. The city owns the intersection and has a big say in what goes in the city.

I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one that still makes coffee at home.

Traffic in that area is indeed a major concern. The city doesn’t own anything except for bed sores.

I was joshing about the city having any hearings about putting Starbucks there. I doubt it The public should should know how the system works and what the city gets out of this besides zoning laws.

How original, Oh Boy

The neighborhood must be thrilled. Welcome to the ghetto.

I think that’s a great location.

I think Starbucks will do well there.

so thats what, 79 locations in concord/pleasant hill?

Good grief Starbucks is becoming ubiquitous. ENOUGH!!! I’d even accept an Olive Garden there. The parking lot is sufficient to support a good sit down restaurant or decent steakhouse, but Starbucks? Yech!

Bring back Eppinandos. I just can’t believe who is going to buy all that overpriced junk. If you want coffee make it at home.

I hope they can keep a dependable staff on hand. Our local Starbucks at Virginia Hills is so undependable, it’s become a joke. We never know what hours it will be open or closed due to constant issues with employee shortages due to unexplained reasons!! Very frustrating.

Olive Garden snubbed again

Starbucks sucks!

Certainly a waste of real estate.

I’ll have a plain old fashioned and a large black coffee…. not from Starbux tho…. if I ever want a strong, bitter black coffee and a dried out pastry or weird scone type thingy…. then I’ll go to Starbux, and maybe even not then!

I know where the good donut shops are.

Businesses at that intersection have never done really well. The restaurants come and go (it’s Burmese, now). The Carlos Murphy’s / Tahoe Joe’s location sort of hobbled along. The See’s Candies is the only exception. I hope Starbucks does well, although I would have preferred Peete’s.

Anyone remembers the restaurant chain Sambo’s? The food wasn’t bad…

I do…when my wife and I lived in southern cal they seated us in the back. I was rather late and they forgot we were there. They shut off the lights and left. I had to run to the front door and yell at the manager. Luckily he heard me or it would have been a 911 call. Loved their breakfast.

On par with putting a 7-11 at the site of one of Concord’s best restaurants in recent memory. Porter House…no, sir. I’ll take the house special that McDonald’s, I mean Starbucks has daily.

Starbucks is literally the McDonald’s of coffee houses. Every corner, every city, ever community, has a Starbucks. Concord fails again in bringing a change to their restaurant/entertainment offerings. Another reason why Brentwood/Arbor continue to offer more.

@Gary.

What does Concord have to do with this Starbucks in PLEASANT HILL?

Online complaining seems to be a favorite sport on claycord. If you want to control what business goes on aprivate property, buy it or lease it. Then you can put whatever business you want there. (Within zoning guidelines)
Good luck!

@Lovelace,

It’s not complaining, it’s the voicing of opinions. It’s what people used to do around the water cooler at the workplace.

Many people, myself included, think it’s stupid to put yet another Starbucks in this area. Doesn’t mean we want to run a restaurant or even stop this one from being built. It’s an opinion. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

Further on that topic, I find it refreshing to come on here and see what other folks are thinking. I even enjoy reading comments I disagree with. It make me re-examine my own positions on things. Sometimes it even changes my mind a bit. You should try it sometime.

$5 cup of coffee 365 days a year. $1,825. Ouch. No thanks. Been home brewing coffee the way I like it.

Well that’s a relief! The other day I had to drive four blocks from one Starbucks to another before I could get another coffee. So happy this one is going in … now I will only have to go two blocks before a refill.

.
Apparently Starbucks’ market study indicates an unmet demand for a retail coffee establishment at this location.
.
Follow the data and science of statistics!!!
.
The free market determines what you may “need” or not need.
.
Capitalism is good.

.
I’m sure the PH traffic engineers and city planner will find a way to screw it up like the nearby In-N-Out where the drive-thru queue blocks parking stalls.
.
Thumbs up! Good job PH!!!! Duh.

That’s exactly what we need another one of right?

It will be great to have one there! It will bring business to that little shopping center and be so convenient! There are hardly any drive through coffees around here. You know you’re going to use it!

While I hate the idea of *another* Starbucks, I can see why they’re building it there. They closed the one in the mall, and the next closest ones are in Target, by Chipotle (next to Target 🤦‍♀️), and next to Trader Joe’s. I’m sure I’m not thinking of others, but the point is that putting one by the mall on that busy street will pull in a lot of business. It might possibly help other businesses in the sad little shopping center, but who knows. I’m not a fan but there are a lot of others who are!

Boo!! We need a restaurant there!! Boo Starbucks!

Another Starbucks???? What a complete waste…..How many Starbucks including the ones in Safeway, Target,Sunvalley do we already have on Contra Costa Blvd? Do we really need another?

R.I.P. Carlos Murphy’s …..We Had Some Good Times There !
