California kids 12 and older are one step closer to being able to get vaccinated without parental consent after a key legislative committee last week passed a controversial bill on a 7-0 vote despite hundreds of people expressing fierce opposition.
Just five of the eight bills introduced this year by a vaccine working group of Democratic lawmakers are still alive — and state Sen. Scott Wiener of San Francisco’s proposal to allow kids ages 12 to 17 to receive FDA-approved vaccines without a parent’s permission is by far the most contentious.
Public comment in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s unwieldy hearing was dominated by those who oppose the bill. One woman, who described herself as “an ambassador for Jesus Christ,” labeled it “demonic.” Others called lawmakers “delusional” and “pedophiles,” and one caller told the committee, “I hope God forgives you.”
Many callers said they opposed the bill because their kids had been “vaccine-injured.” Maribel Duarte, a single mother of six who attended the hearing in person, spoke tearfully about the worsening health problems her son, who suffers from asthma and a bleeding disorder, began experiencing after he received the COVID-19 vaccine at school without her consent “for an exchange of pizza.”
Duarte: “I feel that in that age, they still don’t have that mentality or rightness to choose if they’re OK or healthy enough to make that decision.”
The hearing illuminates the increasingly urgent challenges state lawmakers will face as California approaches the new start date of its postponed student COVID vaccine mandate, which is no earlier than July 2023: How can the state boost low youth vaccination rates while simultaneously building trust in the community — and supporting families whose kids may experience adverse reactions?
Wiener: “No one argues that vaccine injuries never happen. No one is saying that. And the people who have testified about their kids, that’s their experience, and I’m not in any way disputing what they said about their child. … I imagine that there are rare instances in which the polio vaccine harmed someone, but put that against all the children that would have been debilitated, paralyzed or dead had we not had a mass vaccination campaign for polio.”
State Sen. Maria Elena Durazo, a Los Angeles Democrat: “I think younger people should be empowered to know … as much as possible about their health care. … We want them to grow up to be, you know, fully informed adults who can make decisions.”
Republican state Sen. Brian Jones of El Cajon, who said he opposed the bill but wasn’t in the room when the final vote took place, argued that “some of the arguments on this parental consent breaks down” when one considers that state lawmakers in 2011 passed a bill to ban minors from using ultraviolet tanning devices.
And the liberal madness continues, but what do you expect from the party that also believes children have the right to change their gender in a whim?

Durazo thinks kids will be informed decision makers yet California tries to dictate most everything a person can or cannot do. I think we call that an oxymoron or BS, your choice!
If the vaccination was any good I could almost understand it but it isn’t and we don’t really know the long term effects.

Yep, I lot of us who have not been ruled by this ginned up fear of Covid have know this for a while. Most of the data has been available from other countries that showed this at least a year ago. Natural immunity is better that vaccinated immunity. The vaccines do have their place for the elderly, but no healthy kid should get this. Do your own research, the information is out there. If big government and the MSM label something as disinformation or misinformation, that is probably the first thing you should look into.

Because we all know how well the vaccine worked right? A friend posted on FB how absolutely surprised that her 18yr old son, fully vaxxed, boosted, and healthy eater, got Covid.
People, wake up. It’s a virus, like the flu. It is constantly mutating to survive. It’s here to stay, and you WILL get it, one way or the other.
Someday, they may have an actual vaccine that does something other than cause blood clots. but probably not.
What’s next? The pizza exchange is pretty gross.
And, as an incentive, they could be offered their choice of beer, wine, or hard lemonade.

This is getting ridiculous. We as parents are responsible for the health and safety of our children till they turn 18. The government should have no say in how we raise our kids. It’s our responsibility not there’s and it’s all at our expense with things go wrong. Flat and simple they are children and they are there responsibility not the governments and the idiots that run this state

Wiener is an idoit. Trying to compare Covid to Polio. Polio for one affected kids (for life). Covid rarely does. And the Polio vaccine eventually worked. Covid vaccine doesn’t prevent it.
Wiener seems to frequently be involved in legislation that involves minors. Not that there is necessarily anything wrong with that……..

This is so disconnected from reality. It’s been clear for a long long time that the Covid vaccines barely benefit kids and teens, if at all. That young healthy males have a non-trivial risk of heart inflammation from them. And now we know at least 3/4 of adolescents have already had Covid. Yet they keep talking this way. “Oh no, not enough people are taking this marginal vaccine and our mandate deadline is approaching! We must find some way to coerce the result!”
Rescind the mandate quietly on a Friday, pretend you never really wanted it anyway, and pray that people believe you…

Since the current administration was put into the White House our constitutional rights have been shamelessly shredded. It’s obvious that all of the hypocrisy, double standards, and wretched decision making has all been, and continues to be very deliberate. This is disgusting beyond belief.

That was my thought, too, Sancho. If kids are allowed to TAKE the vaccine without parental approval, then they should be able to REFUSE the vaccine if a parent wants them to have it. Watch – this will happen at some point, and liberals will immediately do cartwheels in response. It will be fun to watch.

I also find it interesting that the left always wants to tell parents what to do, but if you are not a woman you can’t have an opinion on women issues, or if you are not a minority you can’t talk about race issues. How about if you have no kids, you have no right to talk about parental issues?
Once kids are 12/13 their medical record is theirs. When they go to an appointment, they can refuse to allow a parent in the room.
@ranchgirl Your first statement is complete BS and your second statement refers to a request the parents can refuse. If the doctor insists, the parents can find a new doctor.
I would say, by the time the child is in high school, there is probably no reason for a parent to be in the room. But if they want to be there they will be there or that’s the last time I would send my child to that doctor.
@anonymous At 12 our son had to have his own Kaiser account, and grant me the ability to access said account. When we went to appointments, they took him in first, and then when they were done, came to get me. He was fully able to discuss any issues without me being present and I wasn’t given a blow by blow account of what took place while I was in the waiting room. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted my father in the room while undergoing a physical exam as a teenage girl and I wasn’t going to force my way into my son’s exams. They do deserve some privacy.
Parents should rise up to the Government taking over their parental duties.
Unless the child is proven abused or neglected, this is not right!

My body, my right. But only when it’s convenient. When the useless vaccines were mandated, it was NOT your body, your right. But it IS your body, your right when it comes to abortion. Two tremendously different issues, yes. Does that give anyone the right to pick and choose? It shouldn’t. Most, if not all of what we have heard from the Biden administration are lots of empty words that mean nothing because we know that they won’t back ‘em up. Sick of it.
