They want to push us all into electric cars on a system they can’t even supply enough power the way it is now. Furthermore our governor King has made it official that they won’t allow any more gas furnaces stoves or water heaters in your homes after a couple years. Those will all have to be converted over to electricity. So how’s this going to work? We’ll have 20 times the electrical drain we have now.. get there’s no plans for new power plants. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me

California official’s are also trying to make everyone go electric! Go figure! I’m all for electric but lets get a plan in place to produce more electricity and upgrade the power grid first before refineries leave the bay area and leave us in the stone age!
Lots of empty roofs that PG&E could cover with solar panels, instead of trying to build more dams or gas-fired power plants. It should be required to negotiate a fair deal with home and business owners to utilize all this space. It should pay all the up front costs and give the owner some kind of rental fee or energy discount, while getting a fair percentage of the power.
Two peak demand periods, early morning heating house, getting ready for work and kids for school. Evening peak 4 – 9 pm making dinner, running AC or heater, TV, laundry, etc.
Problem is solar is not available for first peak load period, Sun isn’t up.
Late afternoon into evening is when solar panel output drops rapidly to zero as Sun sets.

Solar energy during the day means less water released and gas burned to spin turbines. Unless you Negative Nancys have a better idea, something needs tobe done to increase our overall supply. No one’s got a fusion reactor in production, so it’s the one alternative that can offset some of our demand. Wind kills too many other creatures and solar farms destroy too much open space, All those roofs are on ground already disturbed, so it’s the least destructive option right now.
Solor power will never be a dependable energy source. It will help. Battery production and disposal and the disposal of the worn-out solar panels will create another environmental crisis in the future. All the money being spent on green power would be better spent on technology to make nuclear power plants a safe, clean power source.

I keep getting adds to convert all my gas powered appliances to electric including getting a new heater that runs off electric.
Now am I missing something?
What you’ll be missing is dollars if you go electric heat (heat pump)
when it gets into the 30s on a winter morning. Gas furnaces are much better.

You do realize there is a huge difference between the petroleum coke plants (2011) that were shut down and the natural gas plants (2021) to be built, right?

Expand diablo, add more nuclear power using micro plants, have some ideas beside ‘green!’. BTW nuclear is very green. The easy solution, tell everyone to not use power between 4-9pm and cut your water use.
Do something positive for working families, get us some cheap water and power.
Seems to be much frustration here. Unlike most of you, I am related to a PG&E worker. I am not actually sure what he does maybe something with power lines. Anyway, if it makes you feel any better, he lives in a much nicer house than you do.

It’s been so long since I went behind the old fence out back, I almost forgot my old John Deere tractor engine/generator back there.
I sure hope all that old diesel fuel is still good. I may add some mineral spirits to the fuel to help it burn. That’ll keep the generator running.
So, just like our elected politicians, I am all set, safe and sound with plenty of electricity.
And, just like CA politicians, to devil with the Serfs, they can fend for themselves.

All of the new homes should be built sustainably on the energy grid. Meaning they generate their own power. Heat pumps can and will take over current use items like furnace and a/c. Much more efficient and in our state they work well.
Nuclear tech in areas that are safe to build could supply California with energy for the next 80 years easily. Just don’t build them next to the ocean or on a fault line.
The solutions are there however policymakers are taking a broad stroke approach. Fix one issue and create another.

I walk to the store now (just have to go more often). My MD said my body is in excellent condition. Just get out of our cars, ride bicycles, walk. I rarely see people doing this – (that live near main street (Walnut Creek)). I used to take my daughter to school by bicycle. We would ride bicycles – and get to WCI before the driver’s! Some bikes are even electric – but I don’t need that (yet).

Leaded AvGas is being phased out and is now unavailable at Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose.
