BART riders will see a fare increase starting today.
The transit agency is raising prices by 3.4 percent, which will increase the average fare by about 15 cents, according to a BART news release.
Money generated from fares go toward funding BART’s operating and capital budgets, enhanced cleaning, public safety, and projects like purchasing new train cars, according to the transit agency.
A round-trip ticket from North Concord to Montgomery St. in San Francisco will now cost $13.70 (it’s $16.70 if you’re coming from Antioch).
Parking fares are staying the same, for now. The Concord and Pleasant Hill stations charge anywhere from $3.00 – $6.00 per day to park, while Walnut Creek charges anywhere between $3.00 – $18.00 per day.
This is brilliant. Basic Econ 101 stuff. When demand is low, increase prices. Sure, socialist policies haven’t fared too well in the past, but I’m sure it will work this time. 🙂
Between the price it cost to ride it and for parking it’s almost cheaper to drive now. They are pricing out the “benefit” (if any) of using them
Unfortunately this has always been the case for a group. 🙁
But if we are talking about single rider vs driver, I don’t think that’s right.
Maybe in an electric car, but even then you have to pay $3.50 for the bridge toll and most people don’t have free parking in SF which probably costs at least $10.
In a gas car? 60 mile round trip will cost well over $13 for most cars these days, plus $7 for bridge toll. And then you still have to pay more to park there than at the station.
Not worth it. Don’t feel safe riding Bart, it’s gross and you don’t know who you are going to encounter.
What the hell is “enhanced cleaning?”
They haven’t caught the concept of “basic cleaning.”
