Indeed Trader Joe’s then sprouts…I wish Traders would sign up with Instacart. We really do not care for actual shopping any longer.

My Hubby would start frothing at the mouth and have seizures if I ever mention to him not to do actual shopping any longer. LOL!
He has to do his ‘Costco Trip’ once a week and check many isles for what might be ‘new’ showing up. Kid in the Candy Store.
LOL Roz…there’s one thing that is different in our families. I never liked to shop…If I do I get whats on the list and get out. My wife on the other hand likes to buy things the cashier doesn’t even know what it is. 🙂 And read all the labels.

Yep …. at times, that would be my Hubby.
I really like Sprouts however I wish they would put a store near Clayton Road with a big parking lot.
Shop at Safeway and you can save forty or fifty cents on a gallon of gas. That depends on how much you spend. You have to go to their gas station. Other stations will only give you ten cents off if they are in the program. Safeway’s pump price is lower so you actually save more. Shopping for just two I have saved as much as fifty cents a gallon.
Ricardoh: We usually wait till we have 10 Safeway Rewards and then save $1.00 per gallon. That saved us $17 on our last fill-up!!
Luckily, we’re both retired so we don’t have to fill up very often ….. even though we have 4 vehicles (Truck, Car, Motorcycle, and Hot Rod. LOL
I don’t have a favorite grocery store, and I don’t like shopping for groceries. When I do shop, I go to whichever is convenient and not too crowded, and I get enough food to last a month or more.
I went to Trader Joe’s once to see what all the hoopla was about, and I was greatly disappointed. Most of the stuff they carry is prepackaged, and coming from an Italian family, I learned to cook from scratch.
@dawg I thought it was a simple question. Stop rambling. Pick one.
Dawg, l think you are wrong about Trader Joe’s. I buy eggs, dairy, nuts, salad stuff, some fruit, bread, jam, cereal and some meats there, also spices and condiments. Their prices are always the same, you don’t have to time your trip there. I do but stuff at Safeway as well.
I wish we had a Trader Joes in my neighborhood!
We take a trip into Nashville every 2 or 3 months and stock up.
I make the sixty-mile roundtrip to Costco once a month, but I use the local Sam’s as a 7-11. Kroger has gone from being my first choice to my least favorite. I only go to pick up items that I can’t get at Publix or Walmart.
99 Ranch – best place to get chicken livers and other offal.
I must be weird…not a fan of Trader Joe’s.
East coast has far better supermarkets…Kroger and Publix are just fantastic. Nothing here in the west can compare.
I like Grocery Outlet for the deals and local wine selection. The inventory changes and some stores are better than others, but I’m a loyal shopper.

I agree with Dawg, above, that TJ’s has too many prepackaged things for my taste. I prefer my own cooking to nearly anyone else’s! Give me a few fresh ingredients and some kind of fat or oil, and I’ll whip up something super yummy!
I’m a cook. I don’t buy premade meals. Safeway, Trader Joe’s and Sprouts has a limited selection of premade meals. I need basics. Lucky has most of the stuff I need. If they don’t have it I go to an ethnic store.

@Dawg. I’m with you on TJoe’s. I always went when working with the Business Virtual side of the Bank across from the Airport and TJ’s, why? It was all I had time for. Otherwise, I was at Clayton Safeway and my now gone from WC favorite Nob Hill. That location and store was my very favorite. I would usually try going on my Saturdays, that doesn’t always happen, Lucky’s or Safeway near home here, but now seeing my daughter periodically, I head to Nob Hill Martinez periodically. Lastly, the most difficult and most frustrating to me, is buying the bottled water, getting hard to get enough and pick up load unload, so I get the help to load it to do Instacart, which in my opinion is too costly, so there you have it. No favorite a mix.
Have you considered getting a water filtration system instead of buying huge sums of bottled war?
My go to as a favorite is also Piggly Wiggly….. But….

If u need good water. Diamond pure water is the best…n great test n good for kidneys. In shopping center by cvs..n dollar store n chase . Yvnacio valley road off clayton…
Does Costco count as a grocery store? That is where I buy most of my groceries. Like many, I tend to buy fresh ingredients, not pre-packaged. I do like Trader Joe’s, for a number of items that I do get pre-packaged, like chicken/beef broth and frozen veg. Around Thanksgiving and Christmas, they do have a few treats that we cannot avoid, like the Kringle (made in Racine, WI), those chocolate mousse pumpkins, etc. I do find the folks that work there to be fantastic, though.
Really love Lunardi’s for keeping the butcher/deli the same when they bought Petrini’s

I know I’m going to get blasted for this but I like the Walmart Big Store. They have a wide variety of foods and the prices are reasonable. I most like their Angus steaks, great flavor and price.
No blasting here. I don’t mind a Walmart Super Center either. But, surely, you can’t be referring to the Walmart in Martinez. Worst one in the country, I think!

I don’t think the Martinez Walmart is that bad, honestly. The staff are usually pleasant when treated in kind, it’s not dirtier than any other walmart IME and often cleaner. The parking lot is surprisingly generally free of creeps even when I rarely come late at night.
Trader Joe’s for specific items, Lunardi’s or Diablo Foods if I need a butcher or fresh fish, plus fresh herbs & spices & produce, Produce for very fresh but wiill go bad soon (Detroit & Monument)
Alpine or Ranch 99 for baked things and pastries.
I usually shop at Kroger. Like Safeway they have a rewards program for discounts on gas. Unlike Safeway, most Krogers have a gas station adjacent to their store. They are almost finished with expanding (almost doubling the size) our local store. It includes a Murray’s Deli with an amazing selection of cheeses. I have not been in one of the larger concept Publix stores yet.
Loved Nob Hill but the one near me is closed. Nationwide, I would have to say H.E.B.
I consistently shop at Trader Joe’s, Safeway and Grocery Outlet. Raley’s has the best Danish Fontina cheese, if produce is on sale l buy it there. I like Sprouts it’s the only store that carry Danish Havarti with caraway seeds. Some meats are good and well priced, their produce is great, prices are good when on sale. Unfortunately Sprouts is not that convenient located for me, so l don’t go that often.
I really like sprouts from a price/quality perspective. Sadly their Walnut Creek store has a horrible parking lot that keeps me away sometimes. Still a great store.
