UPDATE: A driver was taken to a hospital in serious condition following a crash on Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek on Wednesday morning, police said.
The collision happened around 8:30 a.m. on eastbound Ygnacio Valley Road between Oak Grove and Cowell roads, according to Walnut Creek police.
A vehicle crashed into the back of a parked public works truck while workers were doing improvements to the road, police said.
The driver was taken to the hospital and no other injuries were reported, police said.
The roadway was closed for hours while police investigated the crash. It reopened around 11:30 a.m.
That looks rough. Hope everyone is going to pull through okay. Would be beneficial to read an update on how it happened, if anyone knows.

Eastbound YVR just now opened… saw the city photographer out taking pictures earlier… had to be very serious… anybody with more info?
I drove past the accident before fire trucks and ambulances had arrived. That was at about 8:20ish. The right back corner of a utility truck was inside the drivers seat area of a sedan. It looked fatal for the driver of the sedan. My guess would be the car was driving up the hill in the right lane and the truck in the left lane changed lanes.

Why was a public works truck doing road work during rush hour??? I realize this is the opposite direction of traffic, but its still rush hour, more cars are on the road at that time.
Becuase no one wants to pay overtime to cover work done outside normal business hours.
… they do have a right to use the public roads as we all do at any time… but… we really don’t know specifics as to what happened.. speeding? distracted driving? … by either or both? we’ll probably never know the real cause .. just glad Narcissa’s granddaughter wasn’t hurt more….
This is like the 4th major crash in a week. Slow down— your life is not that interesting and your wife is not that cute like for you to race like a f1 driver to get home. Police please do something already!!
This is a family member of mine. Have some respect. She wasn’t speeding. She was going with the flow of traffic and looked away for a split second. Get your facts straight before you start running your mouth.

Going with the flow of traffic? For the sake of argument, assume she was going only 60 miles per hour, which is a mile per minute, or 5280 feet in one minute, or 88 feet in ONE SECOND. Looking away from the road for one second, and traveling 88 feet, is just as dangerous as not looking at the road at all. That “split second” could be a half second, which, at 60 miles per hour, is 44 feet. Think about it; 44 feet in a half second. That’s about 2 car lengths. Now, about someone getting their facts straight—————

You’ve got the wrong attitude toward your family member hitting a parked truck.
I am glad the driver is doing well. Thank goodness. I would like to know what make and model vehicle she was driving so I can buy the same for my 16 year old son. For a driver to survive that type of crash, the car must have some great safety features. I would love to give my son that safety advantage. I hope you could shed some light on the car she was driving.

Obviously you don’t understand the question. Because the driver survived the crash, the car played a significant role in that regard. The car must have high safety ratings from IIHS. I would like to know the make/model of the car so that my loved one could be protected as this driver was. You may “thank God” all you want, but the safety rating probably had more of a say in the outcome.

A moving vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle? That’s definitely distracted driving – someone wasn’t paying attention, even if she only looked away for a “split second.”
Fortunately, she wasn’t hurt worse and nobody else was hurt.
Everyone needs to pay attention while driving. A split second can do what happened yesterday. The driver was extremely lucky as where the workers on that truck not to mention the other drivers near the car that caused the accident. Insurance companies will stick it to whoever is insuring that vehicle and they should. They can also request the cell phone records and if the driver was paying more attention to her cell phone than driving well enough said.
Luckily everyone walked away in one piece. This young lady will hopefully have learned a very important lesson out of this and well as everyone else. The parents of the young lady should pay for all of the services of the local agencies that assisted as this accident was very preventable.
Glad driver is okay. But the family member who admitted driver looked away, shame on you. The driver was indeed at fault and lucky she did not kill anyone.
