QUESTION: Do you buy stocks and/or crypto currency? If so, which ones are your favorites?

Talk about it….

One of my funds showed a 25% loss on the 2nd quarter report. Thanks, Sleepy Joe!!!

Biden and “his” administration are leaving a path of destruction in many areas….It is hard not to think that there is some intent behind it.

I find it difficult to believe that anybody could mismanage things as badly as this administration has done without it being on purpose. The obvious question would be “Why”? And the only answer I can find is that they have an idea of a different system they would like to see in place.

.
Stocks n stock options.
.
No crypto.
.
“Favorite”… Apple (AAPL)

Did when younger and exuberant, run up to dot com was heck of a lot of fun. These days not as much, but with coming recession and bubbles bursting may put some cash back in at bottom.

Without political stability and regulatory certainty businesses are reluctant to risk capital. Next 18 months are going to be BAD due to federal administration’ incompetence.

Stocks are down this year!
Crypto is way down!
So, no to either one!

Fundamentally speaking, that is when you should be buying an asset. When the price is down relative to historical levels. Means your getting it on sale. Thank you Benjamin Graham!!

Personally I only invest in mutual funds. I consider myself an investor not a trader.

Now if I worked for a fortune 500 company that allowed me to purchase stock at a discount I would take advantage of that benefit because I would consider that investing in myself. Otherwise individual stocks are too much of a risk for me.

I have zero interest in Cryptocurrency.

As to advise: You don’t need to beat the market. Just match it. Pick an established no load low fee Index Mutual Fund that tracks the S&P 500 or the Nasdaq. Dollar cost average your investment. LEAVE it alone and let it grow.

As the value increased, re-balance your accounts with some International Mutual Funds and bonds.

FYI – Think of downturns in the market as a Macy’s White Day sale. You can purchase high value funds at a discount.

First and foremost, forget trying to “get rich quick”. Invest for the long term in good quality stocks and diversify your portfolio. You can always play with a few outliers for fun. Good quality dividend paying stocks with a proven track record are a must also. And be patient, don’t panic during downturns. It’s best to keep investing during downturns.

Crypto currency is more like gambling than investing, so don’t invest more than you can afford to lose.

Yeah just save your entire life so once you retire your too old and fragile to do anything. I have seen too many people in my life retire and think now its time to relax only to find out they just got cancer or break their hip and can no longer move around like they used too and all that money they saved and invested means nothing anymore to them and they died shortly after just to have the state take the money or give it to someone as inheritance and never even get to enjoy their retirement days.

That’s why so many want to get rich quick now and not wait till they are too old and fragile to even do anything.

Now if you want to live a good life without pain and suffering in older age you need to get out and exercise now while your young and eat a healthy diet so you can actually enjoy your savings and hard work retirement / pension.

I would gladly buy some stocks if we could put certain politicians in them.

Maybe I’ll chip in for an Iron Maiden & a Guillotine.

Crypto is nothing more than a Ponzi scheme (remember Bernie Madoff?). I think it imprudent to “invest” in anything where there is no provable product or service. One day crypto goes down, the next day, some famous personality (Musk) comments on it, and the price skyrockets. Soon after, the price plummets again. And so it goes. No real product, nor real anything. Great for scammers. Not for investors.

There’s a lot of use cases for the blockchain/crypto. Whether those use cases validate the cost of buying crypto is totally up for debate. For me, personally, crypto makes up less than 5% of my portfolio. But it definitely has some interesting use cases and potential moving forward.

I remember when The Old Goat told me to stay away from internet companies because there was No real product, nor real anything. Why use the internet when there’s fax machines, telephones and US mail, The Old Goat explained…

Stocks while working. But never more in any one that cost more than what I would take to Reno if I was going there. Been lucky over the years. By only selling when I need funds I have actually taken more out than I put in.

I guess Schwab would be my favorite. I started with it in the 80’s and it is still the elephant in the portfolio.

ETF’s and Mutual Funds only. Spread across sectors and risk levels. Over the long haul this is the best option, all things being considered.

A few people, like the Pelosi’s, might be able to “guess” the market, but I’m not in a position to do that with a high degree of confidence.

LOL

I don’t want to be a grammar Nazi but I think you miss spelled “guess”. I believe the correct spelling is “insider trading”.

How Crypto Currency works… an analogy in layman’s terms.

Not long ago a merchant found a lot of monkeys that lived near a certain Village.
One day he came to the Village saying he wanted to buy these monkeys.
He announced that he would buy the monkeys at $100 each.
The Villagers thought that this man must be crazy. How can somebody buy stray monkeys at $100 each?
Still some people caught some monkeys and gave it to this merchant and he gave $100 for each monkey.
This news spread like wildfire and People caught monkeys and sold them to the merchant.
After a few days, the merchant announced that he will buy monkeys at $200 each.
The lazy villagers also ran around to catch the remaining monkeys. They sold the remaining monkeys at $200 each.
The merchant then announced that he will buy monkeys for $500 each.
The villagers start to lose sleep. They caught six or seven monkeys, which was all that was left and got $500 each.
The Villagers were waiting anxiously for the next announcement.
Then the merchant announced that he is going on holiday for a week, but when he returns, he will buy monkeys at $1000 each!
He also said that his employee will be in charge, and would take care of the monkeys he bought pending his return.
The Merchant went on holiday. The Villagers were frantic and very sad as there were no more monkeys left for them to sell it at $1000 each as was promised by the Merchant.
Then the Merchant’s employee contacted them and told them that he would secretly sell them some monkeys at $700 each.
The news spread like wildfire. As the Merchant promised on his return that he would buy monkeys at $1000 each, they would achieve a $300 profit for each monkey.
The next day the Villagers queued up near the Monkey Cage. The Employee sold all the monkeys at $700 each. The rich bought monkeys in large lots. The poor borrowed money from money lenders and bought the rest of the monkeys.
The Villagers took care of their monkeys & waited for the Merchant to return. However nobody came! Then they ran to find the Employee. However he was not to be found.
The Villagers then realized that they had been duped buying the useless stray monkeys at $700 each, and were now unable to sell them.
This Monkey Business is now known as Bitcoin!
It will make a lot of People bankrupt and a very few People filthy rich in this kind of Monkey Business.

Great story HP
Here’s a great song to go with it.

Great story HappyPappy… have you thought about becoming a public school teacher? This hard hitting, deep analysis is right on par with MDUSD…!

It’s a good analogy but instead of moneys I would use Persian rugs. The story then ends with a rug pull which more accurately describes how cryptocurrency based endeavors usually end up.

I invest, mostly in mutual funds and ETFs though. I don’t trust crypto, but know people who have done well in it. Bill Gates statement about the Bigger Fool Theory, resonated with me.

Traded Bitcoin a few years ago and made 100% in under a year, last year only energy stocks and made a small fortune on them this year (over 100% avg in all of them ytd).
I’m not a long term holder I hold for usually no longer than a month, pretty good at buying on dips and selling high. I used to do day trading but too hectic.
I hate Apple and Google I won’t trade those, Amazon made my money years ago and got out same as Tesla.
I tell people if you can’t double your investments in a year your watching too many of those clowns on CNBC and Cramer who is the biggest clown of them all.
Whatever Cramer, CNBC and Cathy Woods suggest do the opposite!

I buy high and sell low.

Mutual funds and stocks. Have lost more money than I wish to say. Hoping it will rally back. Go Brandon and every mindless person who voted for any Democrat.

Mutual Funds, ETF’s, and individual bonds although any with reasonable coupons have already been called. I am also a fan of private placements in oil & gas, healthcare real estate, and even equipment leasing (check out the big endowment funds and they have up to 20% in these investments). Unfortunately internal fees on such investments can be substantive. I have had some luck purchasing additional shares in these types of investments on the secondary market. Be prepared to buy and hold, and understand these can’t be held in a CRT. Further, it can be advantageous to own depreciating investments inside an IRA. Talk to a professional.

Bitcoin! Buy into it, you won’t be sorry.

Yes, years ago hubby placed our retirement money in Amazon. I was a little upset at the time since I was always told by my parents to diversify our investments. Perhaps we are lucky, but we retired early due to Amazon.
