A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle at an on-ramp to Highway 242 in Concord early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At about 4 a.m., Contra Costa CHP was advised of a solo vehicle -vs- pedestrian crash on the Grant Street on-ramp to northbound Highway 242.

A pedestrian was walking within the roadway of the on-ramp when a vehicle (Honda Civic) approached. The driver of the Honda was unable to avoid the pedestrian and struck the victim.

This is a very poorly designed crosswalk and is blind to drivers until you’re on top of it, especially in the dark.

Only if you’re accelerating up the hill BEFORE you look for anyone in the crosswalk. I stopped for a couple there years ago and some fool in a pick up flew by us on the shoulder. This isn’t the only problem in Concord. My child was hit by a guy coasting thru a stop sign. I see fools running red lights every day. Idiots are doing 50 in a 35, and worse. People no longer feel bound by rules and regulations, the law, courtesy, and common sense.

Homeless zombie looking for something to steal and fence to buy drugs. Nothing more.

Sad.

Poorly lit, poorly designed, poorly driven, who knows.

Homeless Zombie, again, who knows.

A person is dead, another is probably terribly tramatized.

There’s nothing good about this story.

May the memory of the pedestiran be a comfort to their family and friends.

I usually drive 3mph or less in that area. There are simply too many blind angles to contend there.

I believe the accident occurred at the top of the ramp. I drove by as CHP was blocking the ramp and all the action was further up. Yes it hard to see, especially in the dark, but they shouldn’t have been in the roadway that fat onto the freeway.

I live right next to the onramp. This is the second person that has died being hit by a car since I moved in here 14 years ago I found the first guy they fly up the entrance and they don’t care who’s in front of him my grandson alone has been almost hit I don’t know how many times at the crosswalk this was at the top of the ramp but people they don’t care anymore whatsoever
