The Stockton Police Department and city officials announced the arrest of a man in connection to the recent serial killings in Stockton and one in Oakland that claimed the lives of six people.
Wesley Brownlee, 43 of Stockton, was arrested early Saturday morning and is set to appear at the San Joaquin Superior Court Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
Brownlee was stopped by officers in the area of Village Green Drive and Winslow Avenue at approximately 2 a.m. before being taken into custody.
According to police, he was wearing dark clothing, a mask around his neck and was armed with a firearm.
Police said after their surveillance team followed Brownlee while he was driving and watched his patterns, they determined he was going to possibly strike again.
“We are sure we stopped another killing,” Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden said.
Brownlee is known to have a previous criminal record, according to authorities.
His home was searched after authorities after a search warrant was obtained.
Police said they were able to zone in on a possible suspect because of community tips and through police work.
According to police, the suspects residence was near one of the shootings.
The Stockton shootings occurred in the area of Park Street and Union Street in April 2021, in the 5600 block of Kermit Lane in July, the 4900 block of West Lane in Aug. , in the 800 block of E. Hammer Lane in Aug., in the 4400 block of Manchester Avenue in Sept. and in the 900 block of Porter Avenue in Sept.
McFadden said in the past days he has met with the victim’s family and has had very emotional conversations with them.
“They want us to bring this person to justice,” McFadden said.
The victims include a 35-year-old white man, a 43-year-old Hispanic man, a 21-year-old Hispanic man, a 52-year-old Hispanic man, a 54-year-old Hispanic man, a 40-year-old Hispanic man in Oakland and a 46-year-old black woman who survived her injuries.
McFadden said the case is still an active investigation and no motive was made available.
