The Contra Costa County Clerk’s Office will perform “Scaremonies” for 22 couples on Monday October 31, continuing a unique tradition for the department.

“Scaremonies,” are wedding ceremonies officiated by clerk staff in costume, for those customers who are interested. These special Halloween ceremonies will be offered at the Contra Costa County Clerk’s office, located at 555 Escobar Street in Martinez between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm.

“Our Scaremonies event is a special and unique tradition offered by the Contra Costa Clerk’s office on Halloween.” Clerk-Recorder Debi Cooper said. “Our staff is excited to be a part of this fun day. Customers, couples, and our staff look-forward to and enjoy this event every year.”

The County Clerk’s Office offers Scaremonies as a Halloween tradition, with County Clerk staff, some couples and even their guests dressing in costume for wedding ceremonies on that day. Staff in robes are also available for traditional ceremonies.

Because of the event’s popularity, all ceremony appointments for this event have been booked, and no unscheduled appointments will be accommodated.
