There has been intermittent flaring in recent days at the Martinez Refining Company (PBF Energy) on Pacheco Blvd. in Martinez.

The flaring is due to a mechanical malfunction, according to the Contra Costa Health Department.

No public protective actions, such as a shelter in place, are required at this time, and the county’s HazMat team is monitoring the situation, the Health Department said.

The Martinez Refining Company also issued a statement (below):

We are experiencing a flaring event at the Martinez Refining Company. We apologize for impacting some of our neighbors and thank our employees who are safely responding to resolve the equipment issue that is causing intermittent flaring. Flares are an essential part of a refinery’s integrated, engineered safety systems that safely and effectively manage excess gases. Flares are designed to safely and effectively manage excess combustible gases, by burning them off efficiently and effectively. As always, we have a community inquiry phone number you can call 925-313-3777 or 925-313-3601 during off work hours. Thank you.

Health department is not an authority. I love how they manipulate the public by acting like they are in charge of something. Losing all credibility following fauci makes them eligible for crimes against humanity charges. Just following orders won’t help.

You know, it’s people like you who are gonna need purebloods like me to defend what they did to you. With responses like that, it’s gonna be real easy to look the other way and determine you guys got what you deserved. Go ahead keep going.

The Contra Costa Health Department needs to address the fact that it is a State law that the person handling money (Cashier) is not supposed to be handling food, also (I.e., Cook, Food Server, Etc.). I see it repeatedly in the fast food industry, especially since the pandemic. It’s like all the common sense and health safeguards have just gone out the window. At one place, some employees were just standing around while one girl shook something cooking on the stove, then went over to the food selections to fill a container for a take out order, them finished it up at the cash register. She then went right back to serving up another take out order. That’s a “NoNo” in the food service industry.

Several years ago I went to a Subway, and when I walked in, the guy was mopping the floor. He set the mop aside and asked me what I wanted, I replied by telling him I wanted him to wash his hands before even thinking about serving me. He gave me a stunned look, and I walked out.
