Left of Kleins on E 5th street was Service Hardware.
Behind person that took photo going south a couple blocks on Railroad on East side was the Library
and across the street from it was city hall / maybe police dept. On north side of city hall building underneath was the fire department. Was the darnest thing to see fire engines pull out on a call from under back of city hall when I was little. 1950s

I hear tell, that way back, before Sun Valley Mall, and downtown WC, that downtown Pittsburg was the place to go.

Exit 12A February 6, 2023 - 8:35 AM - 8:35 AM

It looks bleak and empty back in the 60s.
.
… not much has changed.

Anybody recall the name of the doughnut shop a few blocks east of where that photo was taken?
How about the camera store?

JustMe February 9, 2023 - 5:34 PM - 5:34 PM

Did they sell spudnut donuts?

Apparently my grandparents ran a donut shop downtown somewhere, long before I was born. They also had a soda shop with malts and ice cream sundaes.

1960, eclectic, home-grown and definitely “Open for Business.” ~~~~~~~` 2022, cold, sterile ode to single-minded, unimaginative designer/builder

The Wizard February 6, 2023 - 5:50 PM - 5:50 PM

Sure looked more interesting back in the 60s. Looks boring and generic now.

No reason to go to Pittsburg now that the seafood festival is no longer held on the waterfront while they have jetski races. That was fun.

.
My only reason to visit Pittsburg is The Mecca Restaurant and to get a haircut.

I couldn’t help but notice, the white woman stepped off the sidewalk as she walked past the black guy.
