Thanks to “Martinez Guy” for these great photos, which show the old Nation’s on Contra Costa Blvd. in Pleasant Hill.

It was located next to a lot with a small burrito place (also pictured). Across the street was a Grand Auto store. This stood on Contra Costa Blvd. near where Crescent Plaza is currently located.

Anybody remember what it was before it was Nation’s?

Thanks again to “Martinez Guy”!

I want to say this was near the old Pleasant Hill Lanes bowling alley? There was also an aquarium store on the Contra Costa Blvd side. Love looking at photos from yesteryear, although the nostalgia makes me sad sometimes…. miss the “good ol days.”

I remember buying car parts at that Grand Auto – nice people, as I recall.

I bought a rebuilt Chevy 350 engine from Grand Auto that I dropped into a Camaro. I put over 200,000 miles on that engine, and when I sold the car, it was still running strong.

Monument Nations was my go-to most of the time. It was closer to my bedding down spot back in the 70s, an important factor in that particularly fun decade. I remember at least once at both places seeing their big plate glass windows broken out…damn rowdy kids.

In that same area, about where Jack’s restaurant is today, there was a large Quonset hut, housing a great cheese store. Sure wish it had remained, because it isn’t easy finding a decent cheese assortment. Anyone ?

@THE OLD GOAT….I remember, damn if I can remember the name of it though.

I remember going to a Quonset hut there that sold produce, my mom went there regularly. Also the drive thru dairy and the A&W drive in up the street. Went to many a birthday bowling party at PH Lanes as a child.

I think it was called something like “Old World Cheese”?

Standard Brands Paint, Pleasant Hill Cyclry, Blue Chip Stamp Redemption, Monument Car Parts, Dick’s Lock & Key, Payless, Gulf Oil, Big-O Tire.

Wasn’t “The Bug Stop” (Volkswagen place) right around there too?

The Fearless Spectator March 3, 2023 - 8:31 AM - 8:31 AM

Yes it was. They used to do evening tech clinics. I’ve never owned a VW, but attended several as a teen just to learn as much as possible about how to hot rod anything.

Mexican Burritos!! Still going strong on Monument/Reganti

Juryisout March 3, 2023 - 9:46 AM - 9:46 AM

I opted for a Evie’s burger/fries with the car hops on roller skates on CC Blvd back then must of been late 70s.
The other burger place back then I think was called 1/4 burger on Monument near Oak Grove road. That was when you could walk in that area had not fear for your life. I believe it was next to a car wash.

The Fearless Spectator March 3, 2023 - 6:13 PM - 6:13 PM

Evie’s was really cool. I moved back to the Bay Area in the mid-eighties and it was still drawing a crowd.
