BADGE1104 – I spent my mostly poorly-paid working career doing my best to “President-proof” my retirement. For me, things were okay under Trump. They are also okay under Biden. Inflation is definitely a sucker punch, but other than food – admittedly a big item for me and the wife – it is not insurmountable, and somewhat balanced by the increased value of our house (not in Cali anymore), and the COL increases in my future Social Security. I’m far more affected by local and state politicians and their idiotic nonsense.
Since I voted for both an ultra-conservative District Attorney in my new county of residence and the Republican (ultra-conservative) candidate for governor, (in my new state) I’d hardly call myself a typical anything. And, just like I am immunized against smallpox and other sundry diseases, I am indeed vaxed and boosted against Covid.
I take no marching orders from anyone (except perhaps my wife). But I certainly don’t take my marching orders from the Democrats or Republicans. Which is probably why I appear contradictory to you.

After reading your post, it reminded me of an episode of “All In The Family” where they played a game called “Cop Out”.
Mr. I’m New: Your comments seem muddled. On inflation, house prices are nationally up 23 percent under Biden, while overall inflation is up 18 percent, so the ledger you are trying to use says you are up 5 percent net (but probably not cause no Prop 13 for you). But the more damning point is you are not selling your house every year to “monetize” your gain. The eggs you buy don’t care about land prices. Sam wins. Again.
Hi To Do, Cyn and Sam: We sold our house in the Bay Area for an obscene amount of money. Moved out of state, paid cash for our new house,. Remodeled (and fixed up our new house), bought an SUV and two mountain bikes. Still have money left over. Our main costs are food and utilities which admittedly have been hit hard by inflation. We don’t have to pay Bay Alarm every month, because we now live in a safe neighborhood. That saves us $50 a month. Then, getting rid of California and Bay Area sales tax, has more than made up for the horrible inflation rate, at least for now. I can only speak for my wife and myself; life was pretty good for us under Trump. Life is pretty good for us under Biden. Our local politicians have (at least for my wife and me), far more influence on our day to day life. Sorry, but for us that is how it is. I don’t speak for anyone but myself, but in general, I find life to be pretty good, except for that part about people dying along the way.

Hi Sam and Cyn. I ran from the problems created by the Progressives in Oakland. I didn’t vote for any of the jokers. I lived there for over twenty years and did my best, paying a ton of taxes along the way and voting for the more moderate or conservative candidate every time. But I lost that battle and wasn’t willing to die in a city that I was starting to despise. And as I noted, after moving to a new state, I voted for the Republican candidate for Gov., the conservative candidate for District Attorney, and then picked the best Dem or Republican for the other positions. And I voted against the gun control bill.
California is probably a lost cause, which is why I moved. If you guys own your houses, why aren’t YOU cashing out and moving???

When Martina Navratilova became successful in women’s tennis, people were critical as her style of play was not femininely graceful as was typical in that era. Having weathered such criticism, she is uniquely qualified to comment on recent controversy regarding transgender athletes. She recently suggested a compromise in sports with separate classes for male, female, and transgender athletes.
Great idea: An “Unlimited” class. Transgender athletes without restriction: Biological male or female, surgical reconstruction, hormone therapy, steroid therapy, puberty blockers, chemical performance enhancers, whatever. If they are brave enough to do it, they can compete without restriction. This could be really popular.
Am I the only one who remembers when Martina missed playing in the Dutch Open? I think it was sometime in the late ’70s.
