The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

QUESTION: Are you for or against Safe Injection Sites in the Bay Area? FYI: Safe Injection Sites are places where people who use injectable, but illegal drugs such as heroin, can do so with limited fear of overdose, prosecution or spreading disease.

So dumb. Why not find out what drives people to want to use these drugs? The whole strategy is just butt stupid but then so is government these days. It’s is also something that big pharma may favor to get more bucks. They are a good part of the problem.
.
If people need more relaxation, relief from pain and or even stimulation there are other safe inexpensive non drug ways to achieve this. Unfortunately these are viewed by big pharma as competition they want to get rid of. Thanks to John D Rockefeller.

I agree with the first part of your comment however the second paragraph is not entirely true. Sometimes opioids are necessary for the relief of chronic pain. I use opioids sparingly to obtain a few hours of relief and am not addicted nor do I misuse them. I’ve tried everything from acupuncture to meditation and physical therapy, but sometimes the only relief is using an opioid. It’s easy for people to “armchair quarterback” others when they haven’t had to endure pain 24/7. Opioids have their place in a appropriately designed treatment program.

I can stop pain with meditation techniques. What that does is shift the metabolic rate. I don’t think the pharmaceutical industry would like what can be done with metabolic techniques. I think though what we’re also talking about here is the illegal or non-prescription stuff. If one has chronic pain they should be able to get a prescription for it or shown other techniques to reduce it. Addiction is another issue.

@Captain Bebops. I agree with you about big pharma not wanting competition from alternative forms of medicine. Alternative treatments, such as acupuncture are, for the most part not covered by insurance, nor any holistic treatment. In this country, the push for natural remedies is very much frowned upon. In France, the opposite seems to be true, and they also don’t have the crazy mass pill adverts we are constantly being bombarded with.

The only way the safe injection sites will work to clean up the problem is to have them injecting fentanyl..the outcome will eventually turn the tide

Safe injection sight is an oxymoron. What is needed is safe rehabilitation sights. We have lost our way.

Sites not sights. I highly doubt anyone is properly overseeing these “programs”.

Sure, why not we need more addicts Set up kiosk’s near the sites for the dealers also

It’s not just a place where addicts can shoot up, it’s a place that can cost the taxpayer’s over $250,000 a month to operate, and that’s just for one injection site. If the city has more than one, the cost will drastically increase. They offer new syringes with needles, alcohol wipes, and on site medical personnel. If there is an overdose, the cost of medical emergency services will jump thousands of dollars.
Injection sites are illegal under federal law, but so is entering the United States illegally, and we all know the feds pick and choose which laws to enforce.

.
TERRIBLY HORRENDOUS IDEA.
.
All that does is accommodate and encourage more illegal activity… like retail theft in order to get the next high.
.
Look at SF… they have drug dealers hanging out near the safe injection sites and SF officials n law enforcement have done little to curb the supply or demand. Such an epic failure that the State had to step in to assist. It’s a self-created problem!!!
.
SF is a filthy hole because of liberal policies based on emotions rather than rationale.
.
I have no sympathy nor empathy for drug addicts. Let them rot and do not resuscitate. No Narcan.
.
They need to hit some sort of bottom before they seek help.

Safe injection sites have its pros & cons, and wish there was not a need for them.
Safer to keep it away from Kids (school areas) and help in case someone overdoses.
It’s sad we have so many people addicted to any drugs, legal or illegal.
Would not wish for anybody to die from drugs, but to get help instead.

There is no understanding of a junkie’s logic. It’s akin to balancing a better high with a death wish. Sometimes junkies will use a McDonnell’s bathroom to inject. That way if they overdose someone will find their body before it’s too late to save them. Adults need to check the restrooms before the kids go in.

FPN June 6, 2023 - 12:26 PM - 12:26 PM

It once took me an hour to use the restroom at Burger King in the city. All the addicts kept running in one after the other. This was 10 years ago. Can’t imagine what it’s like now.

Great post, Doh, and thanks for the tip.

Nope, negative, no way… Like others have said, why don’t we force addicts into treatment. Until then we will continue to spiral ooc as a society.

How nice. A safe place for them to commit a federal crime. How about safe places for us from strong arm robbery. Stealing of personal property. Having catalytic converters or better yet our vehicles still in a safe place. We A deserve a safe place.!

STOOOPID!!!!!

How about repeal or modify Prop 47 and let Prop 36 work. Prop 36 is mandatory treatment for drug offenders. Do this and the homeless population will plummet by 90%.

Keep voting democrat and nothing will change. It will only get worse.

Safe injection site, what an oxyMORON!! Safe for whom!? “Safe Injection Sites are places where people who use injectable, but illegal drugs such as heroin, can do so with limited fear of…prosecution…” They are also given the freedom to not fear prosecution once out of the injection site if they happen to, for example, kill someone, since California is a Sanctuary State for EVERY SINGLE illegal way of life. Btw, are these places open 24/7? If they are not, remember an addict doesn’t wait for business hours to get his/her next fix soooo….

Will Newscum or any high ranking politician would be okay with their children turning to drugs and using one of these “Safe”(HA!!) injection site!? I bet they won’t.

Uhhhh isn’t the entirety of San Francisco a safe injection site. Has that improved ANYTHING?

Undesired behavior can only be trained out by exacting a negative stimulus in association with the behavior.

If you want to see the outcome of such crazy thinking then look to Portland, Oregon a city that has failed on so many levels. The homeless and druggies run the city now. Let it happen here if you want your real estate to crash. Who wants to live among the filth and needles?

By The Way, these cities that have died were done incrementally to a level of where they are today.
Laws protect the citizenry, follow the law and punish those who do not follow them.

Jojo The Circus Clown June 6, 2023 - 6:26 AM - 6:26 AM

Well, if we all consumption sites for toxic food (aka fast food joints) … why not all toxic drugs consumption sites … both are SERIOUS public health disasters … and our corporate-captured local, state and federal leaders are uninterested to end their gravy trains … nothing gonna change anytime soon folks … sad to say. #shameful

What are pharmacies anyhow? The most construction from what I recall last time I lived in Khaliphorniya were pharmacies and fast food joints. I think overdose on prescription medicine is killing more people than what were told. That would be a worthy journalism deep dive investigative project … oh yeah … forgot … no investigating of pharma industry because they pay the bills and own just about everyone in media and goverment.

Injection sites would be moot if not for this: Drug addicts should not be allowed to roam free. They are dangerous to themselves, but more importantly to US. The general citizenry are being held hostage by lazy bums and outright criminals. Stop this. Give them regular injection until they fade away for all I care.

The homeless that can be saved are more fruitful AND deserving. Help them first. Include veterans in this group. Men an women who gave their All, must be shown compassion and mercy.

Wow, I can’t believe I missed yet another revolutionary business model – https://www.foxnews.com/us/nyc-unveils-vending-machine-drug-users-free-crack-pipes-narcan-ods

I mean, who had Crack Pipe Vending Machines for 2023? I really need to start thinking outside the box and lower any business/humanity standards to less than zero, then lower them some more.

Chris June 6, 2023 - 11:37 AM - 11:37 AM

Think about this: Narcan vending machines are showing up at Universities, schools, and some community centers. I’m all for saving lives, but maybe we should focus on encouraging our young on the dangers of any illegal drugs whether through education, public messages or mandatory classes in schools instead of maybe drag queen shows or gender identity Tik Tok videos.

Jeff (the other one) June 6, 2023 - 12:57 PM - 12:57 PM

I would call the vending machines with Narcan to be almost visionary, given it is an antidote for fentanyl overdose, and with the current permissiveness from the administration to allow all kinds of illicit items crossing the border, compliments of the cartels, for one, seems a good idea for those suffering from second hand exposure (I think of the one officer who almost died from such exposure of fentanyl during an arrest). So much of this drug has come across, it seems likely that there will be multiple “accidental” exposure. I say this with some sarcasm, as it is a sad statement that our elected “bosses/managers/controllers” are taking more of our hard earned resources for the benefit of the derelicts of society. But your response does kind of highlight the level of dereliction, Narcan vending machines, drag freak shows for children, the rise in issues with reality/gender identity.

Isn’t promoting safe sites helping the pushers? Spend that money putting the providers of the drugs in jail for more than a slap on the wrist stay plus a really big fine. That might do more good than providing injections sites.
