The Water Cooler – One More Song Before The World Ends, What Is It?

The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it. The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.

Today’s question:

QUESTION: If the World was about to end, and the only thing you could do was play one more song, what song would you play, and why?

Talk about it.

Love this song and loved Dr. Strangelove. It was one of my parents favorite songs, as they lived through the 5 year German occupation, they would listen to BBC, and Danish Journalist was able to broadcast from London in Danish, so the Danes knew what was going on. The German’s didn’t allow the Danish press to report everything.

Exactly, Slim Pickens at his best.

Well, it’s R.E.M “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” for obvious reasons.
Not one of my favorites by any means, but c’mon.

“Don’t Fear The Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult, been listening to this since it came out in 1976…it is still played every day on oldies Rock Stations….no real significance just a great song that is still played at the end of their concerts.

always a good one.

“The Final Peace” by Jeff Beck
Alternatively, to buy some time, the full version of “Thick as a Brick” by Jethro Tull (20+ minutes)

I too forgot to answer why…. “The Final Peace” seems a fitting title to go out with if the world is to end, and it is just an incredible piece of guitar work by my favorite guitar player.

“Thick as a Brick” is also a great tune, but in this case was selected because of its length (plus, it really is a good song, also one of the regulars on my playlist).

“The End” by The Doors of course…. just about seven minutes worth and then fade out.

I forgot to answer “why?”
Sorry about that…. well, because the obvious choice would be Skeeter Davis singing “The End Of The World” but it is just too whiney, “why?, why?, why?” oh puhleeze!
Now the question was “the end of the world” not just dying or passing away…. no,no, no for that I’d want to pick a soulful song sung by a woman with the voice of an angel……

“Dancing With Tears In My Eyes” by Ultravox

Are we talking about songs that predict the end of the world, or song we want to hear one last time? Since I’m not sure which I’ll do both. Prediction “The Year 2525”, Bad Moon Rising, CCR, Dylan’s “A hard rain is gonna fall” sung by Pete Seeger, Tom Lehrer’s WWlll. Songs that I want to hear one last time and that seem appropriate for the occasion “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, Simon and Garfunkel, “It makes no difference” by The Band and sung his soul by Rick Danko, and U2 “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”

Don’t worry, be happy.
