I love the fact that in contra costa county i can wake up in the morning and know that we have 10 different starbucks coffee shops to choose from.
also i think we have good selection of donut shops like chicks donuts.
there are also plenty of homeless tents to walk around while on my way to concord bart in the morning.
while at bart i have to avoid the cars that have
homeless sleeping in the cars while smelling up
the cars.
i love contra costa county.
Open space. Good Mexican foods ( the street vendors have the best food!) down at the monument neighborhood.
Street vendors that have no license to operate or no sanitary standards right?
The food is great see I am not complaining.
Until you get sick.
The question you have to ask yourself, is if these street vendors adhere to legal, allowable quantities of filth.
This includes but is not limited to:
Rodent hairs, roach droppings, and bug parts.
You might refer to these as “spices”.
Most of the people I have met are really cool. Food options are awesome. I like the different towns in the county and the access to open space and BART.
The food here is great! Also the weather.
People in Contra Costa don’t realise just how poor quality the restaurant food can be in some other places. In other counties, restaurateurs can see magazine or internat picures of how a classy reataurant should look and sound, so they may have the ambience nailed down, but they can’t match the food quality in Contra Costa. I went into a nice restaurant in Yuba City and it looked great, with nice background music – all very pleasant. When the food arrived, I noticed the ingredients were of poor quality and were not prepared very well. Cheap blue cheese on poor-quality hamburger and vegetables that were not fresh. And they charged top dollar!
Over a decade ago I went to a nice steak house just inside Pittsburg. The waiter and I were the only men wearing a tie. Mariner is right we do have a few places to eat nice. Not as many as there used to be.
There is nothing now.
I can tell you what I used to like about CCC ….. light to moderate traffic everywhere at all times & courteous drivers (no grislock)… friendly responsible people, cities that maintained their streets, infrastructure in general, LE kept the trash off the street (figuratively), teachers that demanded respect & discipline – and if there were problems, parents that would insure accountability, no high rise high density housing with high vacancy rates, and plenty of open space (where now if there’s one vacant lot cities are allowing a developer to go wild and build 3-5 units onit, and people had respect for each other generally speaking……. now? not so much sadly
My favorite thing about Contra Costa Co? Easy. It’s not Alameda Co.
In 1850 Contra Costa County was one of the original 27 counties when California was formed. It was initially proposed that the name would be Mt. Diablo County.

Alameda County was created three years from the northern and western parts of Contra Costa County plus a bit from Santa Clara County.

The name “Contra Costa” comes from that was on opposite side of the San Francisco bay from San Francisco, hence opposite or (contra in Spanish) coast or (costa in Spanish). Had Alameda county been in the plans for the 1950 creation of California we likely would be in Mt. Diablo County today and Alameda may well have been called Contra Costa as it was on the other side of the bay. I suspect the names Alameda vs. Contra Costa would be a toss up as the Mexican Spanish ranchos had considerable political influence in California including Rancho Arroyo de la Alameda which was where Alameda county is now.

That political leverage is also why the original California constitution included things that the owners of the ranchos wanted such as the concepts of community vs. separate property in marriage as it gave them better control over the ranchos as people got married, had children, inherited or were granted property, and died.

Friendly, considerate, humble, and most of all, down to earth.
That was a difficult one to type without collapsing in hysterics.
CCC is home to the most self centered, boorish, “I’m OK you suck” humans to ever roam the face of the earth.
You people have no idea what good food is. But what I really love about contra costa county is the roads. Some of the best roads in the world. So smooth and flat without holes everywhere. Man whoever makes maintains these roads is brilliant.
It used to be the Blondes, Redheads and their blue or green eyes, and the short skirts. Now it’s rare to see a blonde or redhead, take a look at the kids walking home from school 90% of them have black or dark brown hair, most likely at least 50% of them are from illegal board crossing parents.
Also, the proximity to the mountains, rivers, and the ocean, in which you can be in either within an hour or two drive or less.

I especially enjoy the excessive crime which can include the smashing of a car window in the night or early morning as the moon is comeing up or the birds begin to chirp!
Going to work with broken glass on my butt 🙃 ! When I’m trying to proceed to work is always is what I aspired in a city!
