Good News! Gas Prices Drop Slightly In California – Still $1.63 Above National Average

The average for a gallon of regular gasoline is slightly lower this week in California, at $4.80, down five cents since last week. A substantial 61-cent drop from the $5.41 per gallon average Californians were seeing this time last year. Although the national average of $3.17 is slightly up from last week and 5 cents higher than last month, it’s still well below what drivers were paying this time last year.

“An increase in demand – as the weather gets nicer and more people get out and about – is pushing prices up slightly,” said Doug Johnson with AAA Northern California. “The price of crude oil is also on the lower side at $62 a barrel, compared to $82 a barrel, which is what it cost one year ago.”

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.46 million b/d last week to 9.41. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 234.0 million barrels to 229.5. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 10.1 million barrels per day.

At 443.1 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 5% below the five-year average for this time of year. Can hardly wait for newsom, state legislature and California Energy Commission

Conclusion: In general, imported oil is often cheaper than American oil due to lower production costs abroad, even when factoring in transportation. However, global market pricing, tariffs, and refining needs can narrow or reverse this gap in specific cases. For example, tariffs could make Canadian or Mexican oil more expensive, and domestic oil may be more cost-effective for refineries equipped to process light crude. The notion that domestic oil is inherently “more affordable” is not always true, as global market dynamics dominate pricing.

Dropping where? Of all the stations I pass on a daily basis, the cash price has been stuck @ $4.49 for a long time.

Just a reminder… Newscum campaign promise was to bring big oil to accountability and get underneath the price gouging & bring parity to CA gas pricing with the rest of the country … yeah right … just like his other campaign promise to stop the high speed rail to no where and save CA tax payers billions – did he on either? Nooooooooo

That $1.63 difference vs. the national avg is about the same amount that we all pay in taxes and fees for every gallon that we buy.
Other stupid reasons that our costs are so high:
All imported oil comes into the state via tanker ships.
There are 0 pipelines that deliver oil and gasoline into the state.
There is 0 excess refining capabilities in the state; the last refinery built in CA was in 1976 but nobody wants to build due to regulations, liabilities, and low profit margins.
All of the different blends for each season.

None of these issues will ever improve under Dem “leadership”.

Get rid of that CA extra 1.00 per gallon charge & we are close to the national average but CA doesn’t do things like that for it’s citizens.

The state has some of the highest gas taxes in the country, and by far some of worst roads. The democrat state government is worthless, feckless and soulless.
p.s. How’s that 12 cent per gallon tax increase to fix the roads that the democrat government imposed on us working out for everyone?

Good , noticed it where I live .

Since 2017? All roads?
Its a statewide tax, not just where you live.
