Gas In California Now Priced Somewhere Between A Minor Surgery And A Used Kia

California gas prices have jumped a dime since last week as prices across the country are creeping back up just in time for the busy summer driving season. The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is now $4.92 in California. The national average for a gallon of regular is up 4 cents from last week, as the price of crude oil rises and demand goes up. Typically, the seasonal increase in gas prices starts earlier in the spring, but lower crude oil prices this year have kept that from happening. The typical seasonal pattern is now beginning to emerge. “Despite the upward trend, Californians are paying about 33 cents less compared to last year, which is good news for the record 39.4 million domestic travelers expected to take road trips over Memorial Day weekend,” said Doug Johnson, spokesperson for AAA Northern California.

  • Contra Costa: $5.12
  • San Francisco: $5.24
  • Oakland: $5.13
  • San Jose: $5.11
  • Sacramento: $5.08
  • Fresno: $4.99
  • Stockton: $5.00
  • Modesto: $4.92
  • Redding: $4.90
  • Yuba City: $4.83

The nation’s top 10 most expensive gasoline markets are California ($4.92), Hawaii ($4.49), Washington ($4.33), Nevada ($3.96), Oregon ($3.95), Alaska ($3.60), Illinois ($3.39), Arizona ($3.38), Utah ($3.30), and Idaho ($3.29).
The nation’s top 10 least expensive gasoline markets are Mississippi ($2.66), Tennessee ($2.71), Louisiana ($2.73), Alabama ($2.76), Texas ($2.80), South Carolina ($2.81), Arkansas ($2.81), Oklahoma ($2.82), Kansas ($2.85), and Missouri ($2.86).

As of mid-2025, California has the highest gasoline taxes in the United States, with a total of approximately $1.29 per gallon when combining state excise taxes, federal taxes, and various state-imposed fees and climate program costs.

Taxes and fees are crushing the working class in this state. One of these days the simple thinking democrat voter will wake up and realize they can’t afford to go on vacation or go out to dinner. Working class parents will try to explain to their kids why they don’t have the time or money take them fishing, camping or anywhere fun because they have to work overtime or two jobs just to pay the bills. Are the highways and roads in California the best in the country? Remember all you middle class working people voted for these gas prices.

Think of HIGH prices as your REWARD for electing democrats and their
Bankrupt Green agenda.
.
IF fighting in Mideast cooks off, or iran mines Strait of Hormuz again, driving up
cost of crude oil, rest of America will still have low prices due to “Drill Baby Drill”.
.
63.5% of crude refined in CA in 2024 cames from other countries in ships.

After years of anti oil and huge fines, can’t blame for refiners saying, to HE!! with CA.

I’m off to stock up on popcorn,
watching democrats and newsom backpedal without mirrors should be fun.

I find it so interesting that Nevada, Utah and Idaho have much cheaper gas than we do in California get all the gas is made right here!
It’s all the taxes that the California democrats have put on gasoline. Yeah yeah, is supposed to go towards the roads but it’s always been subverted somewhere else.

California is the “testing ground” this is all by design to get everyone on a check and/or in an institution. We could do so much more with the money, but sadly, we are pawns

I’ve been tracking the cost of gas for a while now. It went up .30 from two weeks ago on Tuesday, and then up another .10 on Wednesday. There was no reason for that kind of increase. It’s not taxes. Meanwhile, the national average went up .03 and then .01 during those days. So we appear to have a .10 increase when the national average increases. The price per barrel, meanwhile, has been declining. As per usual, Californians pay among the highest prices in the nation. There’s some gouging going on here.

Isn’t it interesting how those living closest to the refineries (lower delivery cost) always pay the most?

Democrats can take their green ideals and plant them!

When we moved to Texas from Concord, I couldn’t believe how cheap gas was here. I paid 2.39/gallon yesterday to fill up, which is still kind of expensive historically here. When we moved in 2019, we were paying sub $1.00/gallon for regular.

I moved to South Carolina from California last year, I’ve seen gas as low as 2.59 a gallon, so the other day i seen 2.79 a gallon and thought that’s so high.
