A woman was killed in Concord on Tuesday evening when she collided with another vehicle, California Highway Patrol said.
Just before 5:30 p.m., CHP responded to the area of northbound Kirker Pass Road and Hess Road in Concord on a report of a collision.
An investigation revealed that a Ford Fusion containing a woman and a 14-year-old boy was at the westbound Hess Road intersection and tried to make a left turn onto southbound Kirker Pass Road. The Ford pulled into the path of a Toyota Sienna going north on Kirker Pass Road being driven by a woman. The Toyota collided with the Ford’s driver side.
The driver of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene and the teenager received major injuries and was transported to a hospital. The driver of the Toyota had minor injuries and both she and the teenager are expected to survive.
CHP carried out a DUI investigation and said that it was ruled out as a cause of the crash.
That isn’t right turn only? If not, it should be. Seems nuts to go from Hess Road to the opposite direction on Kirker Pass. People drive horrible to begin with and at high speeds, especially on Kirker.
Looking at Google Maps from 2021, there is a sign prohibiting making a left or U-turn from Kirker Pass at Hess, but no signs prohibiting a left turn from Hess onto Kirker Pass. I wouldn’t want to try it.
She either didn’t see the on coming vehicle, thought she could beat them or just expected the vehicle to just stop. The poor kid is going to have to live with this & lost possibly a parent or family member a true tragedy that should have been avoided.
Ought to be called Graveyard Pass.
