As we previously reported, in an effort to curb aggressive driving and improve safety at a busy Walnut Creek intersection, the City has installed a series of plastic traffic lane separators along westbound Ygnacio Valley Road leading up to Oak Grove Rd. The traffic lane separators, installed in the dedicated right-turn lane, are designed to prevent drivers from using the lane to bypass the backed-up through-traffic.
And now we’re going to report something we failed to report when we reported the story about the new traffic lane separators on Ygnacio. The City also installed the same type of traffic lane separators on Oak Grove Rd, so people can’t turn right on Oak Grove Rd. from Ygnacio, and immediately make an illegal u-turn on Oak Grove.
Good move Walnut Creek, good move.

The yellow ones on Oak Grove is a good move – there is a motorcycle that routinely makes a u-turn there, he’ll probably still do it
Homelessness, gas prices, mental health, bad infrastructure, terrible traffic, time, etc. Yup, we are focused on what’s important. Good job walnut creek. That’s the important stuff there. 🤦🏼♂️
Always someone who will talk down every attempt to improve. Yep! Should have saved that money. By doing so, homelessness and mental health would have gone away, gas prices would drop significantly, and you could have used that money to improve every other infrastructure problem in one full swoop! What were you thinking Walnut Creek??
It is sad that most people have to be treated like children because of how selfish they are.
Selfish is going into the right turn lane , exiting on the other dtreet and making a U-turn so you can enter back in to cut ahead of all the other people staying lawfully in their lane.
Right. That is what I said.
Entitlement. Disregard for others. Blowing off the rules of the road for personal reasons. You know, that kind of stuff.
Here’s the perfect example of why we all have to pay the price for the actions of those who have no ability to think beyond themselves and their wants.
More like arrogance!
So are you saying that thinking you’re above the law isn’t selfish?
What in the world are you going on about? The poles are up because people are selfish. Idiot driers who refuse to obey the laws are selfish and must be treated like babies.
Observation, driving westbound Ygnacio Valley Road before Oak Grove,
thought it strange truck ahead of me had right blinker on. Green light he
moves forward hits brakes then makes a 90 degree turn right in the
intersection onto westbound Oak Grove.
.
Don’t think more plastic sticks glued to the road will stop that behavior.
Look for more rear end accidents caused by vehicles turning right
in the intersection because they didn’t make it into right turn lane
in time. Fix for one problem, causes another possibly more dangerous
situation.
.
IF vehicles can drive over those “plastic traffic lane separators“
without incurring damage, it’ll be open season.
Obey…..Lol!
Drivers are getting so bad and traffic in Concord and Walnut Creek is so heavy I dread driving out there anymore.
But nobody beats the reckless drivers in East County… Antioch is the worst.
I think it’s like a vortex or some kind of evil presence there that makes people speed & cut off other drivers & start road raging.
Stop signs are only a suggestion and the red light rule is that you get a 5 second option to keep going after the light turns, or 3 cars have already run the light before you actually have to stop….it isn’t just thugs & punks either, even the soccer moms dropping the kids off at school do it.
Has anybody mentioned the separators that were placed at Bancroft and Ygnacio Valley Freeway, I mean Road(right turn into Ygnacio Valley Rd)?
Yeah, along YV (coming down the hill side) a lot of the dividers are already gone. Now it’s a matter of time before an accident happens in that stretch of road because someone is pissed that they can’t cut through the very front. The long term solution is have traffic laws be respected. But, in liberal Contra Costa, the police handing out tickets is seen as police brutality.
Wrap ’em with barbed wire make ’em scratch!
Want to curb aggressive driving?
Write traffic citations.
Nothing like an expensive ticket and an increase in insurance premiums to introduce the concept of accountability via a lighter wallet.
Plastic sticks won’t do that.
The law enforcement officials are too busy chasing, arresting, re-arresting, re-re-arresting……
the criminals that are running wild in our communities thanks to the states democratic government and their supporters.
When’s the last time mandatory Driver Ed was taught in high school if you wanted to get a permit at 16?
When’s the last time anyone took ANY driver training with professionals and learned the rules about signaling, defensive driving, yielding the right-of-way, safe stopping distances between cars, courteous driving (have any CA drivers even HEARD that term?) the actual meaning of and technique for respecting ANY signs like YIELD, and how to merge seamlessly onto freeways and other causeways?
Yes, it’s a “ME FIRST” wild west on the streets here, with drivers who put everyone else at risk because they’re more important than anyone else.
Amazing to me how many drivers out there put their lives willingly in the hands of others, trusting in everyone else’s instantaneous reaction times, efficiency of every other car’s brakes, and assuming that no one else is distracted, tired, or just not paying attention.
Of course, they never will know the destruction they might be leaving behind them, in their haste to get somewhere first…
Yes the “me first” self entitlement mentality is still growing …. and unfortunately we let it happen
Since the lane separators were installed, traffic congestion has noticeably worsened, and my commute now takes 10 minutes longer. Does this mean that many drivers were previously using the far-right lane to bypass traffic and shorten their travel time?
yes….
They want to make you miserable enough to ride BART.
…as if this alleviates the issues of why ‘they’ drive as they do in rty 1st place; ineftefctive and incompetent City Management…who use 3rd grade tactics to cease the antics…
