ATM Heist Ends As Expected, With Handcuffs And Regret

Early Friday morning, Brentwood police officers responded to a report of suspicious activity in the 5100 block of Heidorn Ranch Road, near the Highway 4 corridor. The report involved individuals associated with a Jeep behaving suspiciously. As officers arrived on scene, the suspects fled in the vehicle. Shortly after, authorities discovered that a large ATM safe had been forcibly stolen from the Bank of America on the 6200 block of Lone Tree Way. Investigators found evidence that the ATM’s cash box had been dragged along Highway 4—correlating with the area where officers initially responded. A short time later, Brentwood Dispatch received another report of a vehicle matching the suspect description spotted in the Deer Ridge neighborhood. With help from the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office and the Antioch Police Department, law enforcement quickly established a perimeter around the area. During a search, officers located 34-year-old Kevin Monge of San Jose hiding in a bush. He was safely taken into custody and arrested for grand theft and related offenses. Monge was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.
