The fees the DMV collects goes to all departments of the state at the direction of Newsom and his cronies… they don’t set the rates for registration or license fees, DUI fines, etc. – it is handed to them to collect. The Concord DMV is one of a very few that has been plumbed for recycled water for use in irrigation. The lawn, bushes, and trees used to very lush maybe 3-4 years ago – then the mandate from Sacto said to cut it off – why? Have no idea why other than maybe making the other offices look bad? I have an idea wo it was that gave the direction but I’m not sure so I better not say publicly.

So question:
what is wrong with the actual building? Are there things that do not work? Paint peeling? Parking lot cracked? What?
The brown grass is due to the watering bans our glorious governor put out a few years ago.
I personally have been in there several times over the last couple of years – two out of state vehicles buy/sale and kids getting permits/licenses. The building is older but I do not see anything broken. And if it is not broken, why would we repair/replace it?
Please note, I keep my vehicles till they are no longer viable, most of ours are pushing 250k before we consider replacing them. I sold my toy car out of state and bought another one out of a different state, only exceptions to the 250k rule.

It’s a challenge to get anyone by phone (always a wait for a call back hours later.) If you try and go in-person because you have questions you are now greeted with a row of sandwich board sign telling you they can’t/won’t help you in-person at the office for what you drove there for. Then a usually unhappy ‘greeter’ tells you to use the registration machine that when you try the screen it won’t even illuminate at all (and you can’t even ask it the question you need answered re said registration you need to pay and had the cash for. *All* of those desk windows and they can’t have ONE for registration help in-person even only a few days a week? Like an older man once said in frustration while visiting, ‘the way things were run there made as much sense as a surgeon removing tonsils through your backside.’

I don’t care about the brown lawn. But services that need to be one “online and not in person any longer”, I have decided to not use the DMV offices any longer, instead i will go to a AAA since they do everything the DMV does, including vehicle registration and a live person who can help you in person if there is an issue and not have to wait hours for a phone call, or some automated unhelpful “AI Chatbot” on their website that can’t give an actual answer other than “Go to an authorized partner for help”, i.e., just go to AAA (if you can) for actual help, and little or no waiting at the AAA offices.
AAA can not process a lien sale and transfer it into your name,so they dont do everything, there are several other services that only DMV will do.And those trying to sell a car and want to ‘meet at DMV for transfer”(paranoid people) the person your selling your car to will not be able to register it at AAA unless they have a membership too. It’s the buyer that that needs the service, not the seller, and they won’t do a transfer for a non member..
… Concord is a state owned building… it would be the last to go …been there since about 1970 – I think it will be there a long time in some variation or another
It was remodeled and modernized almost a decade ago. Easy place to deal with DMV issues but the only problem is the DMV’s IT department needs so work. That’s probably because the system may need to be moved to a newer system and server. For instance when I went to get to renew my license they forgot to tell me in the appointment reminder text message to also bring the code I had been using when accessing the site (not the password BTW). Without the code they had to push me through another signup which missed that I had already paid online for the license.

Wouldn’t hurt them to put an overhang somewhere for shade and more benches under that shade … so you can wait outside instead of inside with the crowd.
Loaded with coughing, and unhealthy large folk.Bad place to wait indoors, but not a stitch of shade outside. They text you when your number is up,so you can just sit in the car in the sun and hope your AC works.
Thge DMV sucks & has since I got my license in 1984…
Same here and it still reminds me of a jail!!

AAA is great for uncomplicated business,
been going there for years!
And AAA is an even longer wait.
In 10 years there won’t even be a building.
All online, and you’ll have to hire a
private third party for driving tests.
